Let’s Look at Wanderer Astro Powerbox Pro V3 for a Telescope
In this video, I’ll dive deep into the features of the PowerBox Pro V3, showing how it powers and streamlines my astrophotography setup. From USB hubs and DC ports to dew heater controls and dedicated temperature sensors, this powerbox has it all.
Is this powerbox a must-have for every astrophotographer? I’ll walk you through the pros and cons, who I think it’s best suited for, and how it performs in the field.

    • @AstroCreation
      @AstroCreation День тому

      Using the “Drizzle” option can slightly increase image size, but this camera isn’t about resolution; it’s designed specifically for high-focal-length Ha solar imaging. Its larger pixels capture varying brightness without saturation and maintain a good FPS rate, which is essential for capturing sharp, dynamic solar details. Meanwhile, in some cases IMX174 sensor would be more suitable, and it has a bit higher resolution.

    How well does it preform compared to other boxes? With multiple power outlets being used, does it keep the voltage high enough across all for say example the stiff requirement a lot of mounts have?

    • @AstroCreation
      @AstroCreation 7 днів тому

      I've only used Pegasus PowerBox v1 (installed on my second deep sky imaging rig) and Pegasus Mini (installed on 10" SCT that is on the background in the video). I think it's incorrect to compare them to Wanderer Pro V3 since the last one has many more features. I believe the closest competitor to Pro V3 would be Pegasus Ultimate V3, but I cannot tell which one is better since I haven't used Ultimate version. Talking about "keeping the voltage" for Pro V3, I haven't faced any issues with the power supply / distribution, and I do a lot of imaging considering the amount of clear nights I have. For example, I got a little over 120 hours of exposure time on different targets over October, and all the aspects of the box were running smoothly.

    That 5.5x2.1 to USB C that you're using to power your Mele mini PC, where did you get it from? The cables I'm finding on Amazon are saying that they only work in the opposite direction (USB power brick to 5.5x2.1 powered device). I'm lacking a few brain cells, so I'm not sure if those would work with the orientation that you're showing.

      @@AstroCreation For my setup I had the powerbox connected to one USB port on the MiniPC, and the mount connected to the other USB port. I found the powerbox was causing the mount to regularly disconnect, and required it to be re-connected. This meant that guiding stopped working. I also found that sometimes the Pegasus Unity software didnt recognize it, and needed some time to 'find it'. Things seemed to work better when the mount was connected to the powerbox, but that doesnt really work for my setup as I have the PC mounted to the pier, and I dont want to have a USB cord coming from the Powerbox mounted on the telescope back down and causing potential cable snags.

    Backlash on this Gemini focuser is not an issue at all. The ZWO EAF has backlash, the scope itself will have some backlash, and yes the Gemini Focuser has backlash. As you showed, it is a very simple matter to dial in backlash compensation. I had to go through the same process with my ZWO EAF and I'm sure every other focuser will be identical, just varying degrees of compensation required.

    Great video ! IMX 174 would be much more suitable with your particular setup ( for critical sampling ) I would personally ditch ADC and use 3x barlow for closeups instead ( just tilting camera slightly ) There are only two cameras which can be compared directly with this one - ZWO ASI 432M and Player one Apollo M Max ( there is also third new camera from Player one based on imx 428 coming next month, but it is much more expensive ) other cameras are TEC cooled so different category and price bracket . Cheap Amazon TEC mobile phone cooler does much better job ( only £15/$20 ) then this fitted SVbony cooler - mine for example keeps my Apollo M mini 12 degrees below ambient regardless of the load...

    If other stupid planets are supposedly constantly orbiting the Sun, How tha fük are they magically sitting still in the sky long enough for you glerfs to make them out to be in fact planets & not just Stars? 🤣🤣🤣 Do they just magically all of sudden decide to sit still for photo & video ops? 😂😂

      @@tonyflatearther dude just look up at and it'll make a little more sense, they do move but we do not percieve them as zipping around the sun from our distance to them as it does take 30 years for saturn to make its way around the sun. If you look up at it you'll notice that an hour later it has moved but it's more than easy to get a good view with a lense, to take photos like this depending on how long they take photos for the telescope will track along with the movement.

    I have set up and have been running the flat panel for a few days BUT major issue when using advance sequencer in NINA. The flat panel isn’t closing at the end of my sequence. For days now it hasn’t closed. Have you experienced this?

    • @AstroCreation
      @AstroCreation 2 місяці тому

      Hello, Andy! I haven't tried it in the advanced sequencer yet primarily because I hadn't switched to it yet. I'll try it myself and see if it works or not.

      Okay let me know. I’ve gone a week with it and it has not closed at the end of my sequence.

      Update: I have resolved the issue. The “Close flat panel” instruction in NINA cannot run in parallel with other instructions. It needs to be a standalone global instruction. I have tested a few times and everything now works as it should.

    Thanks for this video! I have some questions: is it possible to mount the flat panel on the bottom side of the telescopes dew cap instead on the top? Isn't it possible in NINA to automatically control the brightness of the panel in the flat wizard? I think I remember that the Lacerta Flatbox Controller works in this mode: NINA flat wizard automatically controls the brightness and the imaging time of the flats to get good flats. Is there an INDI driver available fo the Wanderer Astro Flat Panel? Is it possible to manually open, close, switch on/off, dimm the flat panel e.g. via buttons, if you don't use a computer?

      Hey Paul! Thank you for the comment! === I have some questions: is it possible to mount the flat panel on the bottom side of the telescopes dew cap instead on the top? === - Yes, it is possible; however, I would pay attention to bigger size panels. My guess is that the flat panel might not fully cover the lens due to the different weight distribution if it makes sense. === Isn't it possible in NINA to automatically control the brightness of the panel in the flat wizard? === - Yes, you can choose "dynamic brightness" mode in NINA and basically set desired exposure time you want to use for your flats. NINA will determine the required brightness then. === Is there an INDI driver available fo the Wanderer Astro Flat Panel? === - As I am aware, there is no INDI driver for this panel. === Is it possible to manually open, close, switch on/off, dimm the flat panel e.g. via buttons, if you don't use a computer? === - The flat panel doesn't have a hand controller to do so.

    Do you think the Eq6r pro can handle the 12 inch version of this?

    • @AstroCreation
      @AstroCreation 2 місяці тому

      It might be an option for visual and your balancing has to be much better than perfect. I'm currently experimenting with my 10" SCT and EQ6-R Pro. I've even tried some deep sky astrophotography with it.

    How do you plate solve with this filter in position ? What settings. Noticed your images have 0 gain. How can you see any stars for stacking ? I'm confused. With this filter in my image train I have to have 15 second exposures and 350 gain to see a few stars when platesolving. Very interested to know your settings . 😊 thanks

    • @AstroCreation
      @AstroCreation 3 місяці тому

      Plate solving goes easyly with IMX 571 sensor. For the last couple of weeks I've used sv405cc camera and I had to increase the exposure time to be able to plate solve with this filter.

    I stacked both svbony reducers and got good results. I got the idea from people doing it with their c6's.
