After a few days in Rovaniemi, and Luosto (videos to come) it was time to head back to Helsinki. Whilst Rovaniemi is not a huge airport, during the months around Christmas it does get very busy, this was early November, and there was a flight coming from, or going to Helsinki almost every hour. When I usually visit in June, there are 3 flights per day on some days. And this is just the Finnair ...

Nice little video. Always informative. Loverly designed airport, lounge for internal flights. I would love to go back to Finland again. Its great the way you show the unusual sights of such a beautiful country. Happy safe travels friend. Les. In Melbourne. Forgot to add, Victorian Government, this is what an efficient transport system (train line and station) to the airport looks like.
Thanks Les… one day the Victorian Government might get it right…

Say your prayers China. When the tariff wars kick in, bye bye Costco.
Majority of the products here are made in China.
Nice review. Great that you have status to use the First Class lounge. I am interested to know why you chose the aisle seat that you did. I always try to get a seat by the exit door as the leg room is tremendous, though you do have the flight attendants sitting across from you in their jump seats.
80-90% of all my flights on the A380 I end up having all 4 seats in the row to myself. Aisle seat easier to get up at will, plus I know quite a lot of crew, so from time to time it provides a good chance for a chat.
Great video....i did that same route in December 2019 😊
Thank you
I will be going to this hotel in December 2024
I will be back there in a few days time. If time permits I am going to try and make another video showing transport options to key locations in Tokyo. I know there are plenty of transport videos on UA-cam, but something specific to this hotel. Thanks for commenting, enjoy your stay.
@ do you suggest I take the train or shuttle bus to the hotel ?
@@blkfruitpunch2466 it really depends on when you arrive at the airport, assuming you are flying in. If in the evening the shuttles are very regular, outside of these times, the train is only 3 stops (from T3) and takes 4 minutes, with a short walk to the hotel. Click on the Shuttle Bus link up top for the bus timetable:- www.mercure-tokyo-haneda-airport.com/en/access/
Hi, Why did you fly with Qantas? Did you pay to enter the First Lounge....How much?
Because they are a great airline. Access to the lounge as listed in the video is due to Frequent Flyer status.
@@ausflyer I guess it depends on how you define 'a great airline'
@@andiharper4498 when you fly 50+ flights every year, with multiple airlines both Long Haul and Short Haul you get a good idea of what a great airline is. Obviously everybody's experiences are different, mine have been great.
Why doesn't Qantas do a full size tray, the seat back tray is hardly ever clean
A lot of airlines are moving to the smaller tray for meal service. The tray table was clean, if you are referring the the marking along the left side, that is just from plastic rubbing on plastic.
Thanks for visiting, hope you had a good time. 👋
Thank you... always have a good time in Rovaniemi and surrounding areas (spent some time in Luosto this visit).

@@lesliewentworth9678 I also love watching Syd Squad live.
Did you do anything else but eat? Probably spent a lot of time sitting on the dunny?
Do seats recline fully in row 88? Thanks
Officially/Technically they recline 1-2cm less than the other seats, however when seated this is not noticeable at all. Plus you have the advantage of nobody pulling back on the seat to get up, or over zealous fingers on the IFE screen. Also, aside from take off and landing, you can keep the seat reclined the entire flight, no need to put it upright for meal service as there is nobody behind you.
Wow that is so much food! Weeks worth of food there.
Not really considering it was over the best part of a day and a 1/4. From arriving at the airport in SYD to leaving LHR it was over 30 hours 😉
Stayed here in May 2024. Beautiful new hotel in great location. Chocolate hour is a bonus
Chocolate Hour is a huge bonus... 😁
I flew the Qf136 from CHC to SYD last Friday. The flight experience was mixed. Ups: I still liked the food that was served on the flight (Chicken with potatoes and beans). I still got enough rest during the flight to Sydney. Downs: the entertainment system was quite disappointing where they got rid of the music section and did not have enough choices. Some of the choices you have to download the QF Entertainment app. As well, i asked the flight attendant whether they have wifi and he said that unfortunately they don’t have any wifi on the Trans Tasman flight. Instead, the wifi is used on Domestic Flights.
Keep in mind the B738's start to get replaced with the Brand New A321 XLR's in a couple of months time. I believe it will be Domestic Flights first, then short haul international (unless they change their policies, they will not have IFE systems, everything will be streamed to your device). Regarding WiFi, that is across the Domestic network only currently, the rollout for international services was meant to be this year, but I believe it is more like early 2025 as they were waiting for additional satellite coverage under the ViaSat network (for some South Pacific flights, & flights to North & South America). From articles published, it doesn't look like the initial WiFi rollout will include New Zealand.
So much food eaten… for so little activity and movement……. can't be healthy for blood sugars or heart… I get that eating is a way to pass the time - but airlines need to start offering better options. At least on SIA you can order a diabetic meal and not cause one's insulin to be on overdrive for 24 hours while sitting sedentary in a seat. I wouldn't eat that much food over 24 hours including a Jiujitsu and F45 sessions….
That is over a 30hr period, and part of the reason I sit where I do at the back of the aircraft is due to it being convenient to get up and move around. The only time I would stay seated for more than 1 hour is if a was asleep. The foods are actually quite low in Sodium & Sugars (unless you add salt). Qantas has a dozen options you can request prior to flying, Diabetic, Vegan, Halal/Kosher, etc etc You will also find on a lot of flights I choose the Salad item (although the Kung Pao Chicken is a favourite) & opt for the Fruit Salad instead of the hot breakfast.
@@ausflyer Ah 30 hours. I thought London was much quicker. Indeed airplanes do need to make room for moving about. Even a small exercise bike or vertical rower or something...
@@sinoperture 30hrs is the time from arriving at the lounge pre flight, to being in the terminal at London. That includes the 2hrs in Singapore. I doubt we will ever see exercise equipment on long haul flights, due to their weight & size. However the new aircraft due to start flying in 2026 have wellness areas to help provide space to stretch and move freely. Even though I have done numerous 16-17hr non stop flights, not sure how I feel about 20hrs + in one hit.
what's the leg space like in qantas long haul economy? any seats more spacious than others?
I am 6ft 1in (185cm) and have no issue with the leg room. I find it is on par with most other airlines such as Emirates, Singapore, Finnair etc. IMO Japan Airlines has the best Economy Seats out there, they call them SkyWider for a reason.
I flew to Heathrow from Melbourne via Dubai with a Qantas A380.. never again.. no leg room, hour wait for a toilet... flew Cathay to Toronto.. amazing..so much better
@@timdennis2193 Qantas haven't flown MEL to DBX on the A380 since 2017/2018 and having flown on A380's over 100 times, I have never ever seen a 1hr wait for the lavatory, especially with the 4 at the back and 2 mid cabin. Unless there was an issue with a couple of them 15-20 minutes would be the longest wait. And given that I always sit in Row 88, I see the waits on every flight. Legroom is exactly the same as on Cathay, Emirates, Qatar etc, same pitch and same width, excluding Comfort or Plus seats, the only OneWorld airline that has a bigger Economy seat, and market it as such is Japan Airlines with there SkyWider seat, they are fantastic. Re Economy Leg Room: Cathay Pacific 32 inches (6in Recline) Qantas 32 inches (6in Recline)
They are toilets or lavatories, not bathrooms. Why do people ape these awful American euphemisms?
Toilet, Lavatory, Bathroom, Restroom, Loo, Crapper, Outhouse, WC all the same thing. Yes, the technical name for a loo on an aircraft is a Lavatory, and is what both Airbus & Boeing list it as on the schematic of the airframe. Yet for the purpose of a video which may be viewed by many nationalities, it is more a case of keeping things simple.
Nicely done video.
Thank you
Saving grace in the Qantas lounge are the little jars of HP…..it’s availability in the UK is wonderful
HP Sauce is the difference between a good breakfast, & a great breakfast 😊
I defy anyone to not feel hungry after the first 5 minutes of your videos. Always great viewing. Many thanks.
I maybe should make the point that this was over a nearly 3hr period. Looking back on it, that is a decent amount of food, especially after not exactly being starved on the previous flight. Thank you...
A bit inconvenient that Qantas “sit down dining”doesn’t open until 9-30 am plus Cathay Pacific is the better option regarding showers. The little Irishman has gone, time to update the Qantas brand! Helsinki is a very good well organised airport. It would be quite an undertaking to count all the aircraft on the ground at Heathrow in the morning as you fly over them. I really like your presentations. Nicely edited, voiced and informative. Regards, Les in Melbourne.
The Qantas Perth flight leaves at Noon currently and later during the Northern Hemisphere Summer, and the Singapore/Sydney flight does not leave till 8pm, so there is not really much need for the dining room to be open that early in the morning. Cathay does have some earlier flights as well. Helsinki is a fantastic airport. Thank you as always.
@ I was thinking what a good PR opportunity to have good facilities open so other travellers can sample Australian hospitality, plus other code sharing passengers can use the lounges ( as you used the Cathay Lounge ). Les.
@@lesliewentworth9678 keep in mind, you are spoilt for choice with OneWorld lounges at T3, with Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, American Airlines Lounges all next to each other, plus if you are on a Qantas/Emirates codeshare flight there is always the Emirates Lounge as well. Given the QF lounge is scheduled for redevelopment, and expansion they are kind of in a holding pattern, plus T3 really needs to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch... it is really showing its age. But, the issue they have is the sheer number of gates it has, and flights served.
A350 💙 I wish all my Euro flights were like that, I've a soft spot for widebodies on short hauls
I try where possible to work my flights around either the A350 or A330 that Finnair use between LHR & HEL. A much better option than the A321. Also, as they don't sell Premium Economy class between the cities, that cabin is available for Economy passengers, either for free if you have status, or I believe it was only €14 for those that did not have free access to those seats. Even though it is only a 2-3hr flight, every extra bit of comfort is a bonus.
First in. Regards, Les in Melbourne. Happy travels. Will comment after viewing. 😃😃😃
Thank you...
New subscriber here from NZL, just been viewing your awesome flight review on QANTAS A380 from Sydney to London via Singapore., 10/10 for the making of this video✈👍
Thank you, I just try and keep it as real as possible, flying in economy as most people do.
my friend is going here
Hopefully they have a great stay there
Changi Airport, even in 1987 it made Australian airports look like dumps. It was stunning even then, and it certainly was an eye opener to see soldiers walking around armed with sub machine guns which I had never seen in Australia, and I worked for the Police here. I remember landing back into Sydney first and thought how scruffy, tired and dilapidated it looked compared to Changi and Tullamarine was no better. Love the city of Singapore too, so clean and safe and lush. Just lovely!
Whilst Changi is nice, the carpet used, and some of the furnishings make it look like it is stuck in the 90's. That said, overall, and if you have access to the Jewell, it is a great place for an extended stopover. 2hrs isn't long enough.
@@ausflyer My parents went to singapore flying on british airways they were even doing extentions on changi airport then
Changi airport is a massive shopping centre with a few planes thrown in.
@@AndyPat239 exactly...
@@top40researcher31 there seems to be work going on constantly there.
You don't get any lounge access with an economy ticket. And you didn't clarify how you managed that.
At 2:37 the sub-text states "*Acess Based On Frequent Flyer Status" also in the description "(Lounge access courtesy of Frequent Flyer status).". Frequent Flyer status allows access regardless of class of travel.
Yes he did, I read it as I was curious myself.
@@karenglenn6707 next time I think I need to actually say something as well so as not to cause any confusion.
i sat on the floor at Changi T1 outside the 7 eleven and ate a delicious meal from there a couple of weeks ago. Roasted chicken thigh with a non creamy pepper sauce w pasta and brocolli. $5AUD ! My back was sore though 😊
@@AndyPat239 so long as the food was good... lol
Thanks for sharing. The economy main meal food for such long sectors looks really minimal.
You will not go hungry. The first flight is roughly 8hrs with a full meal, mid flight snack & small pre-arrival meal. The longer flight has a full meal, mid flight hot snack plus multiple offerings of fruit, cheese & crackers, chocolates etc. then a full breakfast service before arrival. There are also self serve snack stations at the rear of the aircraft, and near the service galley. You can also ask crew at any time for something. At the end of each service there is nothing wrong with asking for seconds if they have meals left (which they usually do).
Qantas long-haul catering is good. Air France, on the other hand, was horrible for 13 hours. There was one meal, a breakfast snack bag, and literally no inflight snacks. I was relieved to get back on QF.
@@Plen3716 I have not flown Air France so cannot comment with any authority, however I have heard the meals on their long haul flights in economy are pretty ordinary (apparently the opposite in Business Class).
Great video. Was there restriction on how far you could lean back in the last row?
Technically there is a 1-2cm reduction in recline, but it is hardly noticeable. Plus the massive benefit of someone behind you not pulling back on the seat to get up, or overzealous fingers on the IFE screen. Plus during meal service, no requirement to bring your seat forward.
Thanks for the video. Did you get the row to yourself this time or was it a full flight?
88E & 88F remained empty the entire trip. There was a lovely lady in 88D on her way to visit family in the UK. I could be wrong, but it looked like they were the only pair of empty seats on the flight.
Great video! Any tips on getting to platinum? Surely economy even to London would not be worth many status credits?
Fly a lot... and I mean a lot... Return to LHR from SYD nets you 140 Status Credits (70 each way). So that would mean you would need to do that return flight 10 times in your membership year. Obviously other flights, connections ect add to the tally. Also, take advantage of Double Status Credit offers. This flight was booked as a Saver Fare, next level up from Sale Fares, and below the fully flexible fare. Instead of 70 Status Credits each way, it is 95, plus it was booked during a Double Status Credit offer, so this flight was worth 190 SC's, I am flying back via Perth, so with the bonus points, that will dd another 200 SC's... this alone makes up almost 35% of the required SC's to Retain Platinum.
My sister, not a great flyer at the best of times (we took our respective children to the US together and she was white knuckled all the way) flew to Italy in July from Melbourne. They flew Premium Economy with Emirates, which cost quite a bit more (she is also very careful with her money) which she wasn’t happy about but when they came home she said that it was worth every penny and it was nearly the equivalent of Business Class. I and another sister want to go in 2026 and as we both have health issues, we’d like to go Premium Economy but I think I’ll need a Tattslotto win for that. Thank you for posting this. 👍
@@karenglenn6707 Premium Economy in most cases is the equivalent of what most airlines use as Business Class on domestic services. It is a good in-between level for when Business Class is too expensive, or you just need a little more space and pampering over Economy.
As an International student going to Australia, this is going to be my first International flight on QF2 Singapore to Sydney (Same airplane return route) I'm so excited for a new phase of my life. Thank you so much for sharing the needed insight. ❤
Enjoy your flight and good luck with your studies.
@ausflyer Thank you ☺️
@@mohammedabrarnalatwadWelcome to Sydney. Good luck with your studies and have a great time in this beautiful city.👍😀
@@dot10k Thank you soo much ♥️ If a beautiful person is saying this them I'm sure it'll be beautiful city. Bless you sir☺️☺️☺️
Going on my first international trip in January. Sydney to Denver, with two 9 hour layovers... Should be fun. Qantas economy looks a lot nicer than what United will be though.
Enjoy Denver, and the nice chilly weather. I haven't flown United Economy long haul in a long time, but it was not too bad.
We’ve flown to the US three times, two with Qantas and one with Continental (yes, we’re that old) and we much preferred Qantas but they also had a better reputation back then so who knows. It’s a long flight though, especially with kids, who by the way slept half the way as they were a bit older. My son was 6 and hers 7 and 9 so they were as good as gold (you just don’t sleep much as you worry that the kids may decide to get the zoomies or something and upset people). Cooped up boys can be a handful sometimes. Have a wonderful trip, never been to Denver but San Francisco is beautiful! Be safe and always aware of your surroundings (ex police here). Enjoy!
@@karenglenn6707 I flew to LAX a couple of times with Continental on the DC10 via Honolulu many many years ago. No IFE back then, just a projector screen with usually some B Grade movies. Denver is really nice, but sadly San Francisco has deteriorated immensely, defunding the Police was a terrible move, and part of the reason why the Democrats are being punished now. Thank you.
Awesome review mate
Thank you
Well, that’s another downer about living in either of Australia’s mega rat race cities. Move to Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth and your QF trip to LHR will involve a feeder shuttle to Singapore where you can have a couple of hours at Changi and take a shower in the airside hotel while you wait for the A380 with all its smelly bodies to arrive and you hop on all fresh . 😎
You can still time to have a shower during the QF1 stopover, Tip: the BA lounge is always much quieter at this time of the day
Generally the BNE & PER connecting flights arrive before the QF1 flight gets in from SYD, so there should be time to relax & take a shower. That said, if you can get access, the airport lounges are a lot more convenient than getting a hotel room.
A good video - good camera work. Was your seat against the bulkhead? If so, did it recline as much as the other economy seats or was it restricted due to the bulkhead?
Row 88 has the self service drink & snack position behind it. Technically the recline is 1-2cm less than other rows, however it is near impossible to tell the difference. The added advantage, you do not need to bring the seat forward at meal time, and you don’t have people behind you grabbing on to the head rest to get up, or over zealous fingers on the IFE screen. Usually always get the seat next to me empty, if not the entire row of 4 seats.
I loved your presentation. I had a similar experience and i really enjoyed. Thank you.
Thank you... whilst it is nice upstairs or up the front, flying economy is not that bad.
