Honestly the original map had so much more charm.The SA map just feel like a shambles with things everywhere. No real flow to it like the mod had every town had personality now a town is just a collection of 30+ buildings with 100+ windows you can be shot from in a 360° radius. Pair this with the lightning fast movement speed and you just have CoD with leaning. ArmA 2 as clunking as it was had pretty tactical pacing to its combat the guns had just as much personality as the locations too. The standalone just feels soulless and the people playing it are a reflecting of that too. Encounters are no longer interesting they’re just 2 second long exchanges of someone pretending to be friendly and shooting you in the head. I really wanted SA to be good but in my opinion it’s nothing compared to the mod
started playing the dayZ mod back in summer of 2012 when i saw seannanners and goldglove play it. built my first PC just to play dayZ. playing the standalone to this new. beautiful to see how far this game has come in terms of detail and immersion... and unforseen glitches that kill you lol. still, my favorite of all time

Old Dayz looked, sounded and played out better. Especially the legacy gunplay which was a masterpiece. The current game gunplay is just an another poor easy pointy shooty. Old Dayz gameplay had more immersion, adventure and interaction. The game mechanically runs much better now but the soul of Dayz was stolen from us in 2018.
This is crazy talk. Frame drops in towns was a very real problem, and at NWAF if someone came within render distance you would get frame drops notifying you of another players presence. Additionally, I do not miss the days of random broken legs for the crime of walking over rocks or climbing ladders that was common in the mod.
@@apersonontheinternet8006 I agree with the points of frame drops and random broken legs. As I say the game is more stable now. Although the way the actual entire game was changed in 2018 has made it just a poor imitation of what Dayz was and was going to be.

There’s a community made map on Arma 3 workshop called Chernarus 2020 and it’s a combination of the two maps in the video, Chernogorsk remains relatively the same without the additional apartments around it but it does have Svetloyarsk and Novodmitrovsk added to it, and it’s also my fav map to play on in Arma 3

Back in 2013, playing DayZ mod, I always thought every town had it's face, it was unique and special in structure, even if most of the buildings were of same models... One exception was Berezino. Docks side was somewhat interesting, but the whole spacing of the town and garbage layout made it probably the ugliest town in DayZ. And take a look what they did with Standalone. They turned every town into Berezino. Overloaded with crap, changed tructure, added 5000 "scyscrapers". What they did to Cherno city and NWAF is total abomination. Same thing with survival stuff vs guns. It's a strange mix of "take care of my character as if it's a 2 year old baby" and "if I kick a trash bag that's laying on the street, there's 75% chance Famas will fall out of it". They're not using their heads. Dayz was best when stuff was rare, you had 2 barracks in NWAF and 1 in NEAST, that's it. Stary sobor was somewhat viable. Later on they started adding stuff even to the old mod, some sort of expansions to the map, again - total abominations. There's fruit to words like "dont overdo it", "learn when to stop" and "just so" / "just right". A perfect example of that is the firestation. Such an iconic building in original DayZ. What did they do in standalone ? Opened every door, expanded it, ruined it's "feeling". The fact that there's a building, doesnt mean you open every door and every window. There has to be gameplay element, restrictions and "simplicity" to it. And NWAF...my god. OMFG.
huh? guess nostalgia hits you hard but Dayz Chernarus is way more vast and better.

DayZ: SA truly is a worthless bag of shit..the only thing that beats arma 2 is the graphics. It's like chernarus has a model library of 10 buildings that are copied across the entire map....places look the same, different layout - lazy arse developers...even reforger is still using the same shit from the Arma 1 days for fuck sake. SA inventory is also shit, never have I ever had to spend 10-15 minutes on an inventory screen just to sort my gear or even swap gear - the game makes the player do too many actions for such shitty result...for example when opening boxes of ammo, you have to get them to your hand, close inventory, open box, open the inventory back up and drag them from your hands to your gear...or with another ammo box...plus when you unbox the same ammo it takes a new slot rather than combining with ammo of the same type already held....getting in cars...would be fine to just have one option to get in...without having to hit f to open the door, hold f to get in etc it's a pointless time wasting feature and the game is full of them..makes the stupid player think the game is actually good, drawing attention from where the attention should be.. such as zombies that actually make it feel like a zombie apocolypse instead of some desselate zombie wasteland where only a few zombies actually remain. The game needs to be re-made entirely from scratch - new map new engine new developers new everything....even DayZ 5.0 if it ever happened would still be the same old buggy over the top peace of shit ... it's anything but a zombie game it's more of a find food to stay alive game until you get shot by another person or glitch to your death, to start the entire run again. The map is also littered with things that could be very helpful, such as those wooden carts..why can't we interact and use? it looks usable...so we should be able to use it, otherwise shouldn't be there...same for semi broken vehicles that look fixable, yet all we can do is open the door, bonnet and boot. I could go on and on...my first few words summed it up perfectly - time wasting, worthless bag of crap
This is beautiful to me in a very strange way. I've been playing this game for so long, and watching content about it even longer. This game has seen me grow so much, and, in turn I've seen the game grow immensely as well. The road has been bumpy as fuck, but DayZ has come so far. And we've all come so far along with it...
I agree 100%. I think most people have nostalgia over the mod because it was like exploring a whole new world whereas now you can drop most of us players anywhere on the map and we automatically know where we are at based on the terrain alone. I think a lot of SA haters soured on the game around .61 when they scrapped the old engine and basically went back to square one. It did suck, and I can’t be mad at those who gave up around then, but they really did a great job at correcting the course of the game and a lot of people didn’t give it a fair shake afterwards.
Why does standalone look so “blue” compared to arma 2? Which looks more earthy and dark and gritty

DayZ standalone takes place sometime between 2015- and the current day, Arma 2 DayZ presumably took place around the time it originally came out, so you’re not that far off lol.
Dayz literary has buildings made in 70s that werent in arma 2.

first they had the same NWAF in dayz like in arma 2 .. it was way better in my opinion. It has less details but it gave me a better feeling of an abondon airfield!

I love both but I have to admit arma 2 dayz had a sort of charm to it that can't be repeated no matter what.
So everything is more blurry in DayZ, just with more buildings.
It's just sad that in Arma 2 u can see so much farther not having the fog mess with your aim
