Never a Colby’s fan. It was subpar compared to all the other night time soaps . Joan Collins had the right idea by refusing to guest star on it . Poor Stephanie Beacham ..she was too pretty to be married to that old goat Charleton Heston lol 😎😎😎
Its too bad Spelling and the Shapiros didnt listen to Barbara and get her back another season...Dynasty and The Colbys suffered from not $$$$ the actors to be on both shows....
SB was only 38 years old when she started on The Colbys. I think they felt that they had to "age her up" a bit given the screen ages of her spouse and children.

I never liked the character Sable in this, but loved her in Dynasty, when she was Alexis's arch enemy!! Have been watching them all over again, recently got the 2 seasons of this and the 9 seasons of Dynasty on dvd. Shame Dynasty The Reunion not on dvd yet though!!
As Stanwyck was reported to have said, "I did the same thing every week; the only thing they changed was my dress"....and "I don't have much integrity left, but I wouldn't have ANY if I did another year on this show"....she also reportedly dropped a script at the feet of Shapiro. but all that being said, Stanwyck was still not in great health. There were several times I could see that she had labored breathing. So much that she sometimes had problems getting words out strongly.
Barbara Stanwick was unfair. First off, she knew she had signed up for a popular soap opera that obviously wasn't Shakespear. That aside, she was called to impersonate a classy, decent, and determined old lady, who struggled to keep balances in a bickering family. I don't see anything at all to complain regarding her role.
It has potential But the villains were Jason, Frankie and Constance as much as I love, Barbara Stanwyck her character was not good The real victims were sable and miles
with barbara stanwyck and charlton heston on board...the colby's could have been a great show....if only they had not over extended the writers by using the same writers on both dynasty n the colby's.....both shows suffered because of it.....they tried to make jason into a saint and you dont build a billion dollar empire by being a saint....you do it with an aggressive,take no prisoner attitude...consequences bedamned!!!....dynasty already had alexis...dominque should have been the bitch on the colby's....she could have been cast as jason's exwife who came to cause him misery and did battle with sable.....it is no wonder that barb stanwyck split after just one season....and has dynasy been renewed for a 10th season...joan collins said she would not have returned but truth be told i think she saw the writing on the wall when they brought sable in and reduced her from 9 episodes....joan collins n john forsyth did not get along and joan was hell on wheels to work with.

Joan Collins portrayal of Alexis made Dynasty a number one show . Something the Colby’s never even came close to achieving. Instead of reducing Joan’s episodes they should have reduced John Forsythes . It was Joan’s arrival in season 2 that helped save Dynasty from cancellation after its lack luster first season .

There is docu-series that aired in 2024 where Joan narrates (I watched it on TCM by ttl happenstance but, I believe it is here on UA-cam)...She discusses how JF wanted to be the sole star of Dynasty and i can't recall the award show (Peoples's choice or Golden Globes), anyway Dynasty won and the entire cast came on stage to accept but Joan was the 1st at the podium (Which i believe was intentional) she said a few words but then turned the mike over to John (She said, he was pissed and did not speak to her for 2 days). Joan was pissed that she was cut from 9 episodes of S9 (She stated years later in an interview "You don't kill the goose that laid the golden egg"). However, the TRUE reason Joan was cut from 9 episodes is the BS she pulled in S6. Joan was the only cast member that did not appear in S5 premier episode (This is b/c her contract ended with S4, Dynasty ended on a high note as the #1 show, Joan wanted a huge increase and a 7 figure singing bonus, the only problem with that is, JF had a very unique & rare clause in his contract, that he MUST AlWAYS be the highest paid cast member, by 3% of the 1st season and 5.5% by the final season, this meant Joan could not be paid higher than JF). I am not sure what the final numbers were but the bottom line is if Joan got an increase so did JF. But i digress, separate writers were not brought in to write for "The Colby's", they were assigned dbl duty. When Joan learned of this, she was PISSED, her position, was Dynasty will suffer in the end as the scripts will no longer be quality (and Joan was 100% correct). Joan then boycotted The Colby's and REFUSED to appear on the show. Joan was paid way too much to not appear a team player and her being cut from 9 episodes was in retaliation. Joan did not approach the matter correctly, what she should have done was negotiate, she gets a flat appearance fee, but the dollar amount raised in accordance with the ratings for the episodes that she appears in (undoubtedly, the ratings would have peaked so it would have been a win/win).

I liked Constance, she may had healty issues at the time but she looked very elegant here.

Yeah interviews afterwards show how much Barbara hated the show and left after the first season. She called it a lemon and she wasn't wrong
