Bexar Builds
United States
Приєднався 2 гру 2019
Howdy! I am a San Antonio/Houston based maker that specializes in woodworking. I started making things while I lived in San Antonio coming right out of high school (hence Bexar Builds). I work for a general contractor in San Antonio during the week and go to my parents' house in Houston on weekends to create projects and film my videos. Please stick around to see what I make and leave a question or suggestion in the comments.

Making a Walnut Coffee Table | DIY Wood Coffee Table | ASMR Build
Made a coffee table out of walnut that took about 5 days of building. Nicknamed the "Spatters Table" after my client. Shoutout to her and her taste in interior design.

Making a DIY Plywood Box Jump | Simple Build with 3 tools
After gluing plywood together you can use a staple gun with 1.5” construction staples to staples the plywood on one side and it’ll hold nice
Totally. I’d just make sure if I haven’t cut the panels to size yet that I avoid nailing along the perimeter dimensions, but yeah nothing wrong with that method at all
Did you 3/4" plywood come already that length or did you use joinery to do so? Im having hard time finding wood that long!
I bought 4x8 sheets of maple plywood at Home Depot. I had to cut them down to size
This was the best DIY pylo box tutorial i've comes across. Cheers!
@@mbasyar thanks for watching!
@bexarbuilds thanks for the quick reply! I may have missed it in the video - but what were you planning to do with the router, and did you show us how you used it? Cheers!
@ you can route the edges so you have a round over. Definitely helps when carrying it at the handles and prevents the edges from splintering over time
Lol why
Why not
There’s no way I’m paying over a grand for a bed frame, so I want to make it. This video is perfect. Thank you. What are the dimensions of the plywood, please?
Can't you just buy it and have it cut in home Depot?
Yes, I just didn't want to run the risk of having tear out along the edges and potentially uneven cuts. I enjoy getting to do it myself
What a beautiful piece. Love the video. As a wood working beginner what is the size of the blocks for the ring please and thank you
That looks good! What are the dimensions?
I think it was 2’ deep by 4’ wide and the height was around 36”
Love this man. This is so nice. Did you stain the wood?
This is walnut hardwood. I only needed to use a water based polyurethane thankfully
@@bexarbuilds looks so good!
@@khadarryljohnson9992thanks KJ 🥹
Awesome build! Impressive how ease was to make a bed! Unfortunely the "Floyd Bed Frame" is top expensive do import from Brazil
Beautiful tray! I’m glad you are okay after the mishap….that was definitely scary! Quick question…..did you have any issues with warping after the build? I have made 2 circular trays 30” in diameter and both have warped and look like tacos now.
Thanks for commenting! I haven’t heard anything from my client on any warping. What kind of finish did you use and what kind of use do your trays get?
@@bexarbuilds The first tray I used pine, 2xs milled down to just shy of 3/4”, water based stain, paint, and poly. It warped after the fact. The second tray I used pine already at 3/4”. It has already started to warp before I have even started sanding it down…and I made sure to place the wood so the “rings” on the end cut were opposite and I didn’t clamp it too tight AND I put a counter clamp on top to keep it flat while drying. I know that soft pine is more prone to warp, but 2 times is ridiculous now. Maybe I need to make the base thicker? Instead of 3/4” base, keep it at 1.5”?
@1:12 Me when the woodworking project doesn't go as expected
How did you get that dark of a color with epoxy?
Used an epoxy dye off of Amazon
Love this - but it's crazy how much the price of plywood has gone up since this video! Same plywood now is running closer to $400.
Them were the good old days. Wish those prices would come back down
What’s size thickness is the hardware between the middle spacing?
I believe it’s 1/8 inch
Why not just glue 4 pieces of plywood and make a single piece of bed. Use small legs by cutting sections of a 4x4 redwood and buy nothing from Floyd
Hehehe😂
Then it wouldn’t be a Floyd bed
Honestly. This is probably the simplest yet most easy to follow shiplap video ive seen haha. Good work brodie!
Appreciate it!
Hey however you get it done man. That red has gotta go lol. Nice work!
Thanks! Got tired of the ketchup walls
Guy built me a coffee table and the damn thing doesn't even make me coffee. Guy is a con artist. Bexar Build? more like Bexar COUNTY JAIL>>>> See you in Court Buckooooo
DEFINITLY NOT A BOT
Time and place dude
@@bexarbuildsthis is the time and THE place. Let’s get this sorted out ASAP!!
starting this! my total cost in Feb 2024 is 4x $81=$324 (birch plywood home depot) + $260 (frame hardware)+ $100 (headboard hardware) + $54 (shipping from floyd) = $ 738 plus tax (includes 20% off floyd sale)
Nice! $738 isn't too bad. Those sales that Floyd has from time to time are life savers.
Nice job. 👍🏼
What about edgebanding? Raw front edges for easy splinters. Then the is the toe nailing of the particians.
I sanded up to 220 grit on the edges and finished with a water based polyurethane coat, so splinters won’t be poking out anytime soon. And I used wood glue along the top, bottom, and back with the brad nails for the partitions
Very nice!
Thanks!
I have the floyd bed frame queen. Looking to upgrade mattress size to king. Is there a DIY option for the hardware?
The only option I've seen was buying additional hardware from their website :/ I haven't found a DIY alternative, though I'm sure it would take a little bit of time for design and fabrication. I wouldn't mind trying to make an alternative in the future. It's pretty tough to stomach Floyd's prices.
Dang that bed looks like a fine piece of craftsmanship!
Welcome to the trenches
Dumb. You might as well have just put your bed on old pallets.....
Yikes
Why can't you kids just follow the fuckin line, you gotta have help
Somebody buy him a track saw and get it over with.
>$400 for bent steel. Rip off
Why not poly ? Cutting board oil isn't a good finish
I wanted something that wouldn't have water bead up on the surface of the wood. The cutting board oil allows water to soak in over time and show age. I'm a sucker for a good patina. I wouldn't be opposed to using poly in the future.
@@bexarbuilds not criticizing, was only curious
@@mikemarkowski5960 No offense taken 👍 thanks for asking
Does it look good/work well if you put a stain on something and then add walrus oil? Or does it finish better with natural wood.
I imagine it would finish better with natural wood, but I've never tried staining and then oiling over it.
If you're gonna do a cutting board, definitely do not apply stain. Stain is toxic and is not safe to put on anything that will be touching food. As for coasters, you're not putting food on them, so I would guess you could stain them to your heart's content. But I'm no professional.
rather than gluing the giant panel, I'd glue them after cutting up and then trim once more. it's hard to apply even pressure across the large panel. GJ tho
So cool
Liked and subbed! Beautiful work! I'd like to make something similar :)
Thank you! It’s a lot of tedious work but the end results are worth it
I was today years old when I learned that you can use pocket hole joinery on plywood 😊
Yeah! Kreg sells pocket hole screws that are labeled as good for softwoods/plywood/MDF/particle board.
Very nice, I like to beat the piss out of things with a hammer, how is the stability ?
I thought about doing this but price is about same buying direct. The hardware is outrageously expensive alone.
I just checked their website and for the queen sized bed with headboard and shipping, it’s right around $1,650. To buy hardware and plywood the total is around $880 (if you consider your work free) I’ll agree though on the hardware prices. Pretty outrageous
@@bexarbuilds They must be on sale with hardware because it was almost $700 plus tax and shipping. It’s reason I did not move forward. I may looking into it again after prices on 4 pieces of grade A wood.
@@blkrazorback1970 yes they had a lot of their stuff on sale! Their headboard hardware is normally $125 but it was $100 when I checked. I really wish it was closer to $75 normal price
why not make the hardware yourself too ? 🤷🏻♂️ be creative or ask your local smith
Genius.
I would be worried that you have some cavitation in the middle only using edge clamps. But it looks nice!
I actually put a bunch of tools on the middle to make sure that there weren’t any air gaps between the two sheets. Just didn’t put that footage in because I tried to keep the video under a minute
THAT'S CLAY
If you're reading this - may I ask what were the exact dimensions of the whole plywood piece (before cutting it into different pieces) and also how thick was the plywood? Thanks.
The whole plywood sheet was 48" x 96" and 3/4" thick
Why don't people respect company's copyright and trade marks anymore? Is it because we think the company's costs are zero? This is not a Floyd bed and you shouldn't say you're making one.
Would you feel better if he said “Floyd Style” bed? That doesn’t infringe on any copyright or trademark rights if he is not selling them. The rest of us know what he meant.
My client purchased any Floyd bed materials from the Floyd website. I only made and charged for the panels.

Great video buddy
Will that save my around $300! No wrap yet! 😁👍
Hi, I’m having trouble just buying the headboard hardware. For some reason it only allows me to buy it with the wood, how did you get just the hardware?
Here you go: floydhome.com/products/the-floyd-bed-framework?variant=36458635165858 They hide it under their hardware section in the website menu. Here's the headboard hardware as well since they aren't all sold together. floydhome.com/products/the-floyd-headboard-hardware?variant=36641616101538
Very Nice
This is very cool
Thanks! That really means a lot to me
What were the dimensions of the whole piece of plywood, the most common size is 4x8 feet but I don’t think that covers all the pieces
The sheet was 4x8. Might’ve lost some fractions of an inch from the blade width but you should be able to make all 7 panels with one 4x8 sheet. I used OSB for the middle support because I needed some of the plywood for another project
Oh your right I did not add it up right, thanks
Just goes to show the tool doesn't make the man 😌 Very good work bro. Great job
