The ONLY Outfit Formulas You Need. (easy style, beginner friendly)
Use these easy outfit formulas to create stylish outfits every day, even for beginners (like me) Let's get you on track to find your personal style!
Today we're playing with silhouettes. There are 4 ways to basically combine silhouettes together in an outfit formula:
little top and little bottom
big top and little bottom
big top and big bottom
little top and big bottom
I did a poll on my community tab, and "little top, big bottoms" was the CLEAR winner out of these formulas. You can use any and all of these silhouettes by playing with clothes that you have in your wardrobe, they don't have to be the biggest or littlest, just bigger or smaller in comparison to the other elements you pair it with.

I'm Starting Over On My Personal Style: Here's What I've Learned So Far

Introducing your new personal style bestie: me! I'm starting over on my personal style at 33. Personal style is truly ageless and it's never too late to begin again. I'm doing something a bit out of my comfort zone, and beginning a youtube channel all about style. To summarise, this channel is going to be all about documenting my personal style journey, personal style as a busy mum, starting ov...
I think hair styling is also important when it comes to balancing one’s outfit. For some reason I kept on envisioning you with a blunt wavy bob or lob haircut while watching you style all these different outfits. Ofc, everyone’s hair preference varies and should matter to the wearer only😊
You're SO right about hair, I can never seem to get mine right 🙈 the lob situation is such a good idea for how it looks but if I can't tie back my hair properly it makes me crazy 😆 I'm saving it for when I'm 50 and fabulous though
I like the little top, big bottoms on you best! Those light colored jeans with the ballet flats, so classic and beautiful!
Thank you! I actually did like them when I was editing which is so strange to feel my perspective shift. ✨ Everyone needs to take photos of their outfits to get the "outside perspective" !!!
I really liked this video and loved the skirt and jumper outfit but with the boots big+big as I am not keen on tight fitting clothes and most of the time I like to feel unrestricted also liked the bottoms and plaid shirt ..Thankyou so much for showing us clothes U can actually wear
Yes, loved with the boots as well! Thanks for being here 🤗 I love hearing your thoughts - feeling unrestricted is the best 👌
❤️
🥰
I’m the same! 5.3 with short arms and legs 😂 and I like oversized everything too 🎉
I understand you 🥰 the oversized fashion movement in Japan always gives me encouragement!
All the links are live in the description box, Love to know which outfit formula you want to try out!! 💛
Wow i really injoyed your take on the fantasy self.most youtubers have kinda discouraged ppl from the dream character and her stuff. I am going to take some of your suggestions and impart them into my life.yes its beautiful.THANK YOU💛acceptance is gentler and more freeing
Yay 🥰 it is definitely more freeing, I have a friend who says *express it, don't repress it* - cheesy but true 😆
Watching your videos feels like hanging out with a friend🤍 Would absolutely love a 'beyond the basics'.
That means the world to me, I genuinely feel the same way - even though it's my own monologuing, haha 😄 I love hearing everyone's inputs as well ♥️ I think I'll have to do a beyond the basics 🤓 I keep getting more and more ideas
You are such a wonderful breath of fresh air! So glad I found you 😘
I'm so glad you're here ☺️ thank you for your kind words, Dawn 🙏
Thank you for this perspective! I've always heard and been under the impression that that fantasy self detracted from who I am at the present moment and I should get rid of her whenever she popped up. This view is much better and kinder to her (and me) and I love the idea of incorporating her philosophy rather than her clothes. You are right she really is where the best of us resides.
You're so welcome! I have also heard this everywhere, she gets a bad rap! What we resist persists, so she's always going to keep popping up regardless 😝 may as well have her on our side 🙌💫
Enlightening. Thank you.
You're welcome, glad it was helpful 😊
Great topic. However, I don’t want to blame my self doubt or lack of knowledge about style development on “the patriarchy”. 🤔 - Because it’s not just women who struggle w/ these issues. Thanks to social media and people like yourself, we can all learn and improve. ✨
Absolutely. We are all sovereign beings with multi-dimensional lives and influences can come from many places - for better or worse. Blame is never a healthy state because it takes the responsibility out of our own hands and places it outside of ourselves. Confidence in oneself and one's image is, of course, highly nuanced and situational. (And can strike anyone) I still stand by everything I said! And I hope that social media can continue to be a force for empowerment at time in spite of it all 🤸♀️🙏
@AlannaLightheart. I agree with you that “Blame is never a healthy state because it takes the responsibility out of our own hands and places it outside of ourselves” and this is why it’s unhealthy to blame “the patriarchy”.
@@lu_re7198 Not blaming, simply highlighting that this is the reality of our society and has a huge impact on how women view themselves 💁🏻♀
@AlannaLightheart. Saying someone/something else is somehow responsible for your feelings/actions is blaming. And that’s unhealthy.
Can you share the brands of your elasticated waistband pieces, the skirt and the pant? I’m glad I came across this video! 🤍
Done! I'm working on getting all the links ups and sorted, coming soon:) Thanks for watching and reaching out, glad to be of help! (links are in the description) 🥰
I put A Like as soon as I got to 1.56 😁 Thankyou for the wonderful suggestions and one thing is a must for me and it is comfort with a bit of personal style 🥰
Thank you so much, I appreciate the support - and it helps me know what content I should make more of as well 🙌 comfort is key 🤌 while keeping your personal style as well! I so agree.
Okay, so this is technically four guesses, but I had a hard time narrowing it down: relaxed/soft, chic, minimal. Also hilariously as soon as #28 popped up I said "ooh, I like that" just as you were saying you didn't like it that much!
That is so classic 😂 I love how 2 people can have such immediate opposite reactions 😄 Genuinely I am having a hard time narrowing it down myself as well 🫠 but yes to your guesses they do all inform my dressing for sure 💃
You have a beautiful, soothing voice 🙂
Thank you 🥰 that's so sweet! I love to ramble on 😆
@AlannaLightheart You are most welcomed. I really enjoyed your video, newly subscribed, so keep talking!!!
I'm so glad I stumbled onto your video! Granny Weatherwax is my north star!
Welcome home 😭❤️ any Granny Weatherwax friend is a kindred spirit of mine!
Great video and insight❤ never thought of it like this. Makes so much sense!!
Glad I can give another perspective! 😌
So much great advice. You should write a book. I love your style.
This is such great advice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. New sub!
It is wonderful to see a family woman put forth realistic suggestions.
It's time 😂 the fashion space needs all voices ✨️
O, yes, this video was helpful! I realized that I've already started to incorporate some features of my fantasy me in my clothes and life in general and I feel wonderful ❤Another Terry Pratchett fan here, but my fantasy me is more like Eskarina Smith 😁
That is so good to hear, the fantasy self can be like a superpower when used correctly 💃 welcome to our little unofficial Terry Pratchett fan club 😆 Esk is wonderful as well. He writes great characters
Granny W. is awesome😂 Love your content - thanks!
Love her so much 😆 finding Terry Pratchett readers makes me feel like home 💫 thank you for being here!
Yes! I believe that my fantasy self has been a big part of my poor shopping and thrifting choices in the past. I love the idea of giving voice to her though, and finding ways to honor her various forms in more practical ways for my actual life and style. No one ever seems to recommend this! Brilliant!
It's a big phenomenon for most of us! Exactly like you said, it's finding ways to honour her rather than letting her run the whole show 🤸♀️
I have just fallen in love with you and your channel! Keep the positive vibe and great content coming! Thanks for the lovely sentiment!
That's so sweet of you ❤️ thanks so much for being here!
Casual, feminine, and minimal. You have a mix of dramatic and classic vibe especially with the looks that featured the newsboy hat, dark shades, striped shirt slung over the shoulders, and red scarf. You seemed to really enjoy those while you were wearing those pieces. You have a great sense of personal style. Maybe a pair of black knee-high boots would make the skirt more wearable. I'm 5'4 as well and that particular skirt makes me look frumpy. You made it work beautifully. You're absolutely right about dialing down some aspects of yourself to fit the situation. It makes sense to show up appropriately to meet the events of our day. Is there a particular style era or style icon that you like? The first look was giving Audrey Hepburn glamour, which suits you well. I really enjoyed this type of video. Have fun playing with different looks😊😊
I may get brave enough to wear knee high boots some day 😜 I absolutely love them and will keep trying in future to find a perfect pair... I genuinely find myself so inspired by so many icons eras and even random women on the street! Audrey has been such an inspiration to so many, I think pretty universally adored. And you're right - I do love classic, but when it starts to lean too 'chic' I end up craving a more grunge or gritty edge to offset it (hence the dark colours or drama). FRUMP follows us around - I'm so interested in doing a video and would love to hear everyone's 2 cents on the frump phenomenon. Such an elusive problem that seems a bit tricky to navigate
Also yes, these are my 3 main style categories!! Though my actual words tend to fluctuate a bit more as I'm trying to hone in on them
Thank you so much for putting such wonderful videos together!!! I loved being walked through a bit of your process and thoughts- I keep going into a capsule wardrobe but it’s never felt curated to me- and your videos are really helping me think about the longer and more intentional and considered journey to achieve this! Again, thank you!!
You're so welcome, Kaitlyn! I feel like the process is such an important part... like HOW do we think about choosing the items that might work for a capsule wardrobe 🤔 or any wardrobe for that matter 🥲 there are so many variables, but thinking about longevity was such a game changer for me as well 🌟
Undone. Soft. Classic. Love your content! 💪🏻💃🏻
I love hearing everyone's versions of my words, all really close to my own, but helping me see what others see in my style as well! 🌟 thank you for being here, lauren!
i already love your channel omgg,,, i know a lot of people needed to hear these advices 😭❤ tysm for this video
This is the love I needed today 🥰💃 thank you for being here 🤗
Star ❤
💫✨️ well done 🎉 you get a gold star! 🌟
I enjoyed your content, point of view and “About Me” mission statement. You have a lovely soothing voice. Good luck growing your channel!
Thank you for being here 🤗 I'm having so much fun and it's all about creating community and connection for us to learn together ❤️
Wow! Thanks for taking the time to show all the different versions of the outfits. It was very interesting to see! My 12 favorit Outfits are: 8, 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 25, 29, 31, 34, 43... 😊 keywords: casual/relaxed, cozy, chique.
It was so hard to keep up with which was which! Once I started it kind of snowballed 😝 thanks for sharing your faves 🥰 Cosy is definitely something I look for in winter (or any cold day really) and relaxed too 😀
Great advice, exactly like the title The Perfect Basics. Not sharing the typical white shirt, white tee, white sneakers, black blazer etc.
Those pieces are probably the perfect basics for someone, but not all of us! You're right! 🤗
I am on the same page with you regarding personal style and love to hear your sharing.
Thanks for being here! I am glad it resonated. Personal Style is a lifelong journey ✨️
❤
Thanks for being here 🥰
Finally!! Someone who addresses the “washing dishes and doing things “ sleeve problem!!!!!! You are the ONLY person I have ever seen address this . I thought I was going mad after many many attempts to make the button down work! Well done !!! And hi from New Zealand 💞
Haha this made me cackle 😆 it's SUCH a pet peeve of mine!!
@@AlannaLightheart absolutely! Influencers who don't do housework!
@@marionannmacredie Literally, who does their dishes?! 👀😂

These were great tips and this was also just really pleasant and lovely to listen to - it is so nice to be reminded that it is possible to cultivate a personal sense of style that is satisfying and nice to look at that also fits within our financial means and fits in with the needs of our lifestyle! Fashion can be expressive and intentional and nourishing! Thanks for the generous and gentle reminder!
Oh yes, so much yes to everything you said. Allowing your personal style to nourish you and serve you, amen 🙏 🙌 It seems so straightforward (and yet so easily forgotten) 🥰
❤Thank you for these 5 great tips! I've never tried an elastic waistband or ballet flats but am going to look at both. Recently bought a taupe shoulder bag with interesting texture and cream sandals with a chunky heel but I have yet to style them and make sure now that I have them that I like styling them and if not, I will return them. Rosie 👩🦳 75 5'2" 115 lb. Toronto 🇨🇦
Ooh yes, they both sound so good, I hope they work out for your wardrobe! They are such versatile colours and you are so right about styling them up to figure out how they integrate with everything you already own! 🥰 thank goodness for returns if all else fails 🙌
Some great bag options. I hadn’t heard of those brands since in I’m the U.S.
I think Sancia is also available on the Madewell website! Though they do ship international as well. Hopefully will be able to try some of these in person to confirm the quality and longevity over time, too. 🤩
Between your soothing voice and the chirping birds (plus the imagined smell of bread baking 😅), this may have been the most relaxing video about style I've ever seen! And a truly lovely sentiment, one that came just when it was needed most for me. It's so easy to get swept up in the self-criticism, picking our bodies apart for the silliest reasons. All of those outside voices are just a distraction. 💓
The house smelled amazing 😆 the oven alarm nearly gave me a heart attack, haha. It's such a good way to put it: it's a distraction! Not who you truly are 🥰
Lovethe quote!! Thank you❤😊
Iris is absolutely iconic. I found many of her thoughts by searching for info on some ideas I was also having around confidence/ being true to yourself/ finding yourself through style... I resonate with so much. 🤩
I have a real problem with shopping for my fantasy self. What I have learned is to purchase things second hand from a charity shop for my fantasy pieces. I enjoy them and then declutter them when i no longer enjoy them. Less guilt and better for the planet.😊
I do the same! My local op shops are definitely a go-to resource for me - especially when there's a blurred line between "is this fantasy me or real me" 😭
Love this. Would love to see some personal examples
I would love to dive deeper on this topic I feel like we just grazed the surface here! Stay tuned for more and thank you so much for your feedback :)
Welcome back 🙏❤️ I have loved following along on your UA-cam journey through out the years. Eager to see your personal style blossom 🌸
Hello again and welcome! 🙌 thank you for being here - it's so bizarre how many 'eras' we go through as a changing human! 🥰
Hi, Alanna! Thank you for this video, what a great way to start the week. 😊You are very wise and have a lovely vibe! ❤
Thanks Cat 🥰 the other day I realized since I have 2 little kids I'm totally allowed to give "motherly advice" haha 😄 I do feel like a wise old owl sometimes
Your channel is a breath of fresh air... thank you for this! I'm with you in turning up the volume of our own voices and wearing whatever the hell we want!🦁
Yesssss, oh yes! I am so passionate about it 😝 so fun to meet another Alanna, too, by the way x

Such wisdom. I wish I had implemented this earlier in my life.
It's a journey for sure. I've had so many "a-ha" moments
