A quick video showing you how to use and understand the basics of a compass
I have only used the compass application installed on my phone which makes it easier to find direction but using a real physical compass is not something I understand how to use.
thanks alot easy to understand
Wait but my compass base doesn’t move!!
Forward to 1:20 to avoid a load of unnecessary waffle
Easy to follow along! 😊
I don’t get it. I definitely have a learning disability but wow I feel like such an idiot when I cannot figure this out even after repeating it.
You are showing a mirror or sighting compass which is not one to start with. A simple baseplate compass is much easier to understand for beginners and a lot less expensive.
Looks easy it just seemed to be complicated thanks. Thanks for not having music in the background it is distracting
John Mulaney reading this?!
Thanks a million 🙏
You don't have to turn the anything at all. Just see which way the north arrow faces and you then will know which way all the other directions are.
Thanks for this, I need to know this for my class. TYSM. 😀👍👍👍
What is the mirror for?
Trust your compass, *UNLESS* it's made in China!
Anyone watching this 2023
I feel so stupid for being here ....lol....i should have learned this decades ago.....
Me too. But better late than never.
Starts at 1:22
Thanks! Teaching my boys how to use their compasses. They are 4 & 7 and could understand this.
Thank you
Thank you! This is very helpful
This bloody munir is going to kill Ik just as he did Imran Riyaz Khan these are cold hearted murderers they can't kill real enemies so they kill their own people reminds me of those cowardly dacoits when they were looting some hijrays and the hijrays said we are only poor unochs why are you looting us and the dako replied we can't realy lay a finger on real men so we only Rob hijrays and women .
i alr know how but il curious if theres something else that i didnt know
How about a car compass, the type that looks like a "rotating ball with water" for the top of the dashboard. At my home, I know where North faces - does the red line on the compass face outward (toward N) ? Damn, I feel so stupid. Doesn't seem like it's positioned correctly in the car (since I know what direction N is) Similarly, when I hold it inside my house, N (the red line) is not lining up in the northerly direction. I feel so stupid. My '97 Lincoln had a digital compass and I loved it - now I have a '22 Toyota and no compass. Guys are good at this. Duh me
That is about how to find N, E, S and W. How to comeback to the same location if you walked far away? Thats the main purpose of the compass.
With your instructions, don't leave the house. Another simple instruction that goes off into navigating the solar system.
What do you mean?
N.e.w.s. news.
Thanks for this, I've been wanting to know how to use a compass for a long time, your explanation was easy to understand ...now to check your next video
The dial seem pretty useless if you already know where the directions of NWSE, or am I missing something?
Great simplistic video thanks for uploading!
The turning part is called a Bezel.
He's showing you True Magnetic North, not the North on your map.
Thanks, 37 years since school and I needed a refresher.
Ahhh. I'm confused. You said finding north turn the compus until the red arrow points to the N, North. But when you're finding south it's the white part of the arrow that you show pointing to the S, South??
Thanks man; you've helped make a significant development to my basic navigation skills.
What an excellent instructional video 👏👏👏
I did this in school in 3rd grade and boy scouts I'm 30 these days they don't even teach kids how to use a compass or even directional longitude and latitudes in school kids only know which way it is north or how to tell which way it's north by looking at the sun or looking at the side of the tree for Moss or anything it's as simple as looking up and seeing which way the Sun rises so which way is north south east or west
If you are lost and don't have a compass pay attention to the sun as it crosses the sky and you can figure out N S E W. Once you figure out where north is you only need a clearing and a straight stick and you can determine the approximate time. Stand the stick straight up on the ground face north and once you get practiced at this you can get within a half hour easy. The size of the stick is not matter, a twig 3 or 4 inches is what I used. Learned this during my summers on the beach as a teen on Santa Monica Bay.
Plus, the watch and hand/horixon sky time method is a helpful backup. Blackie Thomas has a video where he used a bottle cap as a 'watch face' in conjunction with the determined hand time. Some of those cheapie metal multi-tool survival wallet cards have that notched navigation hole that looks like a sun which can be used in the same manner (as the bottle cap).
It's still so confusing to me 😭
Cause I interpret it as you have to enter the degrees or co ordinates first?
I just want to sleep North. Helppppppp! I was a girl scout, but I hate numbers and math!!! You should see me type the number line back in the day. Hahahaha long DIVISION RUIneD MY LIFE IN FOURTH GRADE. 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks I think. I have the sharp copper pretty compass and there is no red needle??
Did you cover magnetic declination? Very important or u r gonna be way off. Otherwise, pretty good.
Most likely, NOT A Burton compass BUT A BRUNTON Compass
My compass doesn't even have a needle
Thank you. Just what I was looking for...
I can't trust my compass everytime I use it I feel like " maybe it's broken"
Thanks for a super simple video, with examples. Learnt how to use. Many thanks. Keep up the good work. 👍
Awesome! Thank you so much!
VERY GOOD VIDEO NOT 30 MINUTES TALKING FLUFF
Thanks.
Thank you for sharing the video very helpful to someone who has no clue...
