Yang Tai Chi 24 Cane Form (from back & front)
Yeah - no background music, I know! So sing to yourself. Or play some AC/DC. This is an updated video of the former one taken by the pool - same form, just performed a bit better as the ground is even and not a lawn full of gopher holes! My Chinese tai chi teacher always said the feet should not move faster than the hands. I see so many people stepping quickly, not developing any balance. I probably did it here a bit...but I was trying not to!

    Thanks Adam, this is so useful. Advise from an experienced expert! Is there such a thing as an 'archery horse'? I am guessing the horse needs some spook training so that they don't freak out everytume they hear the arrows pinging off the bow

    • @adamsewell7969
      @adamsewell7969 Рік тому

      Sure. There are archery horses. By that I mean that there are horses that people use only for archery. No specific breed is best. Yes, training to maintain speed is normally the most challenging. Some tracks require a faster canter and some require a slower canter.

  • @UKPRESCRIPTIONGLASSESREVIEWS

    The other problem I have is length of reins. Normal riding the reins are kept pretty long. But that really frustrates me at higher speed. Because when you need to pick up your rein quickly and have immediate control at the bite without having to gather the excess long rein. What's the ideal rein length to have?

    • @adamsewell7969
      @adamsewell7969 Рік тому

      Most peple use reins that are not tight or loose. They tie a piece of string around the reins somewhere around the top of the horse's wither then use an elastic band to tie the reins to the saddle. This makes it easy to reach downand steer your horse without the reins hanging down too low to catch when you are riding.

    Very cool. I learnt Ottoman thumb release. I also do horse riding so my next dream is combining the 2! What I would love to see a series from you on a 101 to horseback archery. What is best quiver? Is it better to have low poundage bow which is as short as possible so it's easier to carry? How to be able to canter with no hands to allow one to shoot....this is my major problem...my current horse always needs pressure at the bite. When I release reins, he takesnit as a message to go faster or do funny things, which is last thing I want when I release my hands!

    • @adamsewell7969
      @adamsewell7969 Рік тому

      Hi Abu. I do not think there is a "best" quiver. If you look at my UA-cam channel, you will see a video I made about the quiver I use. It is a sword quiver that is quite fast and you can use it on both sides. Mihai Cosmei's Flying Quiver is probably the fastest but it takes some learning. The tradtional hip/thigh quivers are prety slow but I have seen people use them at lightening speed. As for the bow weight - I think one should start with a relatively low bow weight and build up. There is no need to have a powerful bow for horse archery but this a personal preference. It is mostly ego or people wanting to shoot in a traditional manner. They used to shoot very heavy bows during wartime. As for how to train your horse to slow down, here is a great video that, by coincidence, just came out yesterday! Good timing! ua-cam.com/video/UxIi1FawnuM/v-deo.html

      @@bobbrown3469 This is how yoga used to be practiced before mats were introduced in the 60s. I am usually filming in clients' homes which is why I use a mat for filming. When you see me on carpet, that's my home. The great thing about practicing on a hardwood floor is that you have to engage your pelvic and core muscles to prevent your feet from sliding. This builds a great amount of strength and stability, which is way more important than flexibility. You'll see in my classes that I focus on strength and stability. Far too much focus is placed on flexibility to the detriment of most yoga practitioners. All the best in your practice and I hope you try the hardwood floor sometimes.

How did you learn this form... teacher, video, book? Do you know the history of the form? Did Wu Wenching create it? I've done some searching online but can't find any answers. I would love to have a book or an instructional video since it is a bit difficult to learn from a demonstration video.

He lives in the east and I'm in California. Also you should be aware that I added a bit onto the end of the form and I was performing it quite quickly due to time constraints.. I currently teach it online to a group who have already gone through the entire form. I would be happy to share a tutorial I have downloaded somewhere.
