This video is here to document the beginning of my Spanish learning journey. I haven't seen much other content of people documenting their Dreaming Spanish journey so I decided to document mine.

    Great video!! Thanks for sharing! I’ve been running into similar problems (feeling bored with Dreaming Spanish and it’s hard to concentrate on intermediate videos), so good suggestion to go back to easier videos!

    Congratulations on your milestone AJ! Also I really appreciate the advice you mentioned about watching easier content. I’m almost at level 4, and there’s a few podcasts like Charlamos that are a bit too difficult for me to understand. So, I think I’ll use that as a goal podcast.

    I'm currently playing Far Cry 6 again. I beat it recently, but I'm playing it over again. The difference is that I changed the language to Spanish. I was hoping it would change the audio, but only the interface changed. That's okay, because there are hundreds of notes and stuff in the game that add to the experience. I highly suggest if you do game, try gaming a little differently.

      Far Cry 6 was great for practicing my Spanish. I think it also greatly enhanced the gaming experience for me since the game is obviously set in a fictionalized Cuba. I have played Far Cry 5 and 4 as well. Wonderful practice and good advice.

    When you find a podcast episode that has several words you don’t comprehend, Do this. Print out the transcript of the podcast then listen to it while you read. Use a highlighter and mark every word you don’t understand. Then look up the words you did not know and put them on a separate sheet. Then listen and read again. You will be surprised how quickly you will gain lots new vocabulary. So the podcasts with vocab you don’t understand are Gold! This is what I have been doing. You Then listen, and repeat the same podcast while reading over and over. Until you don’t have to refer to the definitions any more and you understand every word. If you get bored easy just do that specific podcast episode once a day. Spaced repetition is very powerful when combined with comprehensive input. By doing this your also improving your reading and conserving time because your reading and listening at the same time. 😀👍

    • @AdventureKing16
      @AdventureKing16 11 днів тому

      Latin American spanish should be fine - you just won't know their local phrases but you'll just easily find that out once you get the basics. The different spanish is just like UK English vs American English vs NZ English - people from other countries understand each other but might say different phrases and have different words for things and have different accents. I wouldn't overthink it and just find content that you enjoy, understand and follow :)

    Great recommendation on Spanish Boost Gaming. I watched all the season 1 videos of Stardew Valley and watch every episode of Stardew Valley on Dreaming Spanish. I'm at around 2200 hours and have been playing the game in Spanish for a couple months. I love knowing that many of the words that I've acquired is because of watching those videos and can apply it to playing the game. Also, the book that you mentioned from Olly Richards was great. I recently finished it myself. It was pretty easy at my level but I had actually gotten it a while ago and I noticed a difference when I started reading it awhile ago and when I finished it. Little by little everything becomes attainable.

    Ahh such a good review! I’m at 850 hours but we def have similar taste and a lot of overlap in content that we enjoy. Except I lean heavily on Spain Spanish content 😆 Great advice on pushing past a slump too. When I hit that point, I either listen to easier content to increase my confidence or native content about a topic that I’d watch anyway in English even if my comprehend is a bit lower like 70%.

And I’m glad I did it because there was a bigger selection of videos so I could watch more interesting stuff, now I’m at 397h and I don’t need the premium subscription any more, I get most of my input from outside Dreaming Spanish but I still keep it because I like the video. I just subscribed as I would love to follow you on your journey (I just started this week). Trying a different method than I did with Italian. I actually love not having to study the verb conjugations (even though sometimes I wish this method allowed for writing in notebooks or looking up occasional grammar ... but I am going to try and hold off). I decided to draw the images when the teacher draws them (not sure if they draw in higher-level Spanish, but I guess I could still draw the image to help reenforce). Thanks for your updates!

  • @deannaJesusIsLord
    @deannaJesusIsLord Місяць тому

    I just started with Dreaming Spanish this week. I am at a level A2/B1 in Italian as an English speaker. I am doing this as an experiment to see how not speaking until I get at least 600 hours (or more) goes. It can't be any worse than my Italian which I have tried to learn off and on for over 8 years (and who knows ... maybe it will be even better). I truly believe it is important to understand the native speaker first because sure, I could start making up sentences to repeat things about myself but if I don't know what the Spanish speaker is saying, why would they even want to speak in Spanish with me? I am excited about this process. Already I am remembering words/vocabulary without even trying .... they just pop in my head. I love the people making the videos .... they make it so much fun! I love listening to Organic Spanish ... I believe she learned Spanish herself (not sure how) and sounds like a native. But she uses comprehensible input. Thanks for the video update! Also, I started drawing the images at the same time that the teachers are drawing on Dreaming Spanish, which enforces my learning.
