18th Edition Exam Tips and Tricks 2021
Tips and Tricks that personally helped me PASS the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Exam.
I Personally Took The Exam In May And Got 59/60 or 98% Of The Questions Correct
1. Label Your Regs Book w/ Post It Notes
2. The Exam Goes In Order From Part 1 - Appendices Except For A Few Questions
3. Buy A Scientific Calculator And Write The Formula For Volt Drop In Your Reg Book Notes - VD= (mV/A/m) x L x Ib / 1000
4. Download The IET Wiring Regs App (£4 on App Store)
5. DO YOUR REVISION/MOCK EXAMS!
If you have the time and money I would suggest to do the 3 day course as this wont only help you get through the exam it will help with understanding the book and why its used.

Can i write it from africa online ?
Hi John, thanks for info. What is the app name?
Mate well executed thanks for sharing.👍👍
Did you have you buy a separate Web cam for the exam or did you just use the one on the computer?
hello, in regard to the actual exam does it tell you which chapter/part on every question
Great vid man, should post some of your work on here!
Thanks Pal, Might do in the near future
Great video mate, a lot of good ideas ,What scientific calculator would you advise to get?
Bro that app has helped me so much. Thank you
DON’T write out formulas. If you see the C&G permitted notes for this exam it clearly states you are NOT allowed to write personal notes or formulas. If you do C&G have the rights to ban you from sitting any of there exams in the future for cheating. Just understand the risk of following his advice, even this video is all the evidence C&G need to take action.
18th edition book is brown. Glad you passed.
Hey, is it possible to attend this exam from outside UK ?
I recently did an exam on Exporting goods. The book was a similar size to 18th edition and the same cost but it was so much better. The book had colour coded pages for each section , plastic dividers with build in Part tabs. Made the 18th edition book look a complete mess.
Thanks mate.
Interesting that you've been able to write the volt drop formula in the book there. My training provider has drummed it into us that we can get disqualified if we are found to have written any notes like that in the book. Also you mention a scientific calculator, apparently this isn't allowed now either, only a simple basic calculator. I realise this video was a couple of years ago, maybe things have changed in that time. Nevertheless I found this video really useful and will definitely check out that app. Thanks for making this video
Nice video make one for the 2391
Hi do you think this app got same question know (2023) the 18th edition brown book. Thanks
Thank you so much for your videos
thanks for this video, I am a mechanical and electrical mulitskilled engineer by trade, not a pure bred electrician so was a little nervous and not sure what to expect. as its my first go at this,, this was very insightful thank you
How did it go?
I Passed it but only got around 70% but did all the study myself maybe I’d recommend paying for the 3 day 18th auditon course if your not a sparkie before.
@@TheAlexcutting 70% is very solid for a dual-trade specialist such as yourself. Any recommendations beyond that mentioned in this video?
Thank you for your time and tips, very useful information. Does anyone know how to transfer your full /payed version of the app to another device.I have it on my phone, but want it on my iPad as well..
hi mate, the same what I was thinking about,to purchase the book and practice,my question is did you take the exam online?if so what is the recommended site and if not any recommended center and is there any kinda practical assessment required?thank u in advance
John, have a few questions to ask you, have 18th next week. Flapping a bit, anyway I can email you ? Regards Brandon
Hi bro. I Am new to UK. I am an Electrical Engineer studied in India and have experience in Dubai. What course should i do get job in UK.
Don't open a corner shop for easier money much quicker 😂😂
Link for Apple Store: apps.apple.com/gb/app/iet-wiring-regulations-2022-lt/id1052750962
Please can you share app
I’ve pinned the link to it 👍🏼
Good tips, I didn't think you were aloud to write in the book before the exam? Can't find the same app, just a quiz, android though, you on I phone maybe?
Hi, yes I’m on Apple devices, I’ve pinned the link to it if at the top. Not sure about the writing in the book, the examiners didn’t seem to have an issue with it.
how to prepare and book a test for myself?
How can I apply for the exam?
Baffles me that you can pay £90 for a book printed on tissue paper that doesn’t even have the page numbers on the contents for each chapter. Classic example of them having zero competition and producing the lowest standard product possible
Turn those pages too quick a they rip well easy
Good video man. How did you get on on the 2391.
Hi Shane, passed the 2391-52 haven’t got round to doing a video yet but will get one done when I get a chance 👍🏼
Do not purchase this App... It's a waste of money n time... Just check the old papers it will be enough. This App is not required.
i was told your not allowed to write in the book because they look through it and will take it off you and give you a clean one for the assessment
Hi, I had the writing in mine and the examiners never mentioned anything. I’m not 100% on the ruling I’m just going by my exam.
@@johncanty2847 no worries, i passed it either way haha cheers
Thanks for sharing
Great little video , app was purchased!
Hi Rob, yeah the app was really good, it’s definitely much better than just reading the book.
Can’t believe I’ve just labelled my regs book up and downloaded a £4 app after watching this video. It’s Friday! Thanks for the info and advice! 🤞
What this for the 2392 exam ?
Did you pass pal
@Majid Abdul I did pass yeah… I didn’t smash it by any stretch of the imagination. Thanks for the advice, I wouldn’t have bothered with that app tho. It was superseded and had old questions in it 👍
@monks 'CYAS' was this for the onsite guide exam
@@monkscyas1022how did you revise for it though? Did you use a different website or app? And was it only using the 18th edition and just do the exam only online? I just pass my level 3 so I really need to know for this next step..
Do a follow up for inspection and testing mate
Great video John! I've got a quick question, I'm thinking to do the 18th Edition exam online, so can I use the online version of 18th Edition book for the online exam? Or do I have to purchase and use the 18th Edition hardcopy book for the open book exam?
Will definitely need the book
Thanks John.
Are you allowed to write in the book?
Nope but you can get away with some. But it depends on examiner.
whats the big silver trophy for in the background mate
Thanks helpfull
excellent video, been told you cant write in the book so not sure about doing that. will deffo get the app though cheers!
Hi John could you please let me know 18th wiring regulations exam centre address / phone number in London .
can we write in the book ? is it allowed to enter with the labeled book?
Hello mate good video ! I’m currently on the some path as you. Be nice to see some more videos, I’m currently looking at booking my 18th before moving onto testing and inspection
Are you using the brown or blue onsite guide?
will the 18th edition app for £5.99 help with the ammendment 2 exam if you haven’t already done the 18th edition?
Where did/can you book exam only and how much did u pay for it? I found one recently for £100
Great tips 👌🏾 🙏🏾
Hey I have synoptic exam tomorrow. I know about the regulations and wires but I don’t what else would come up. Do u know where to get good info I’d really appreciate it
Cheers mate great tips, you should do a monthly video on electrical fault finding and tips
Thanks pal. I’m going to start doing some stuff on site / make a video for the 2391-52 👌🏼
