Moog Muse 9 Selected Patch Demos
I run through a few of the Moog Muse presets to showcase the sound quality, timbral range and some of the real time control capabilities.
The continuously variable Oscillator waveforms, the Mod Oscillator options, and bi-directional Oscillator FM cross modulation gives a lot of sonic possibilities.
The Macro Knob can be used for multiple simultaneous modulations to create Patch morphing.
Every Patch has two separate A and B Timbres, so with the Macro Knob you can have '4 Patches in one' !
Recorded direct with no additional effects.

Klauztrophonetik -- HWJ Weekend Challenge "Claustrophobia"
Переглядів 1209 годин тому
This week's theme was a jam having the sense of small places, tiny twisting passages, the walls closing in on you etc., giving the feeling of claustrophobia. Based on simultaneous rising and descending pitch modulations of different sonic elements to give a creepy 'closing in' feeling. Using the new kid TipTop Buchla rack w/ the Klee Sequential Summation Array for the heavy lifting. Using the W...

World's Fattest Synth Pad
Переглядів 2,4 тис.День тому
The world's biggest, fattest, best sounding synth pad sound... realized on the Yamaha SY99 from 1991 using all FM synthesis and no effects! Just the power of the AFM synth engine. Excuse the click-bait title LOL! That said, pick your favorite vintage or modern analog or digital synth and the SY99's core AFM engine can still slap it silly... ;) This sawtooth synth pad patch sounds bigger, fatter...
Labbarhythm -- HWJ Weekend Challenge 'The Maze'
Переглядів 8514 днів тому
This weeks theme was doing a jam of what you might be hearing as you navigate through a maze. For whatever reason I thought of the old mainframe text game "Adventure" ( later 'Zork') and the part where you encounter "A maze of twisty little passages, all different..." So I put together a jam of subtly shifting, variable patterns... "A maze of twisting little passages, all different..."; "A twis...
Tropo Phononia -- HWJ Weekend Challenge "Wrong Patches"
Переглядів 7921 день тому
A very interesting theme this week do a jam based on the concept that the 'wrong patches' are playing the parts ! Now THAT'S a challenge for someone who's always looking to make the right patch :) !! So he's my jam with a lot of 'wrong' sounds blended with some 'right' ones so it's not a cacophony catastrophe ! Threw in some other random 'wrong' (or at least very unexpected) things as well. Hop...
Turtletopia -- HWJ Weekend Challenge 'Giant Space Turtle'
Переглядів 127Місяць тому
These weeks challenge was an interesting one: “There is a theory that we are all living on a giant turtles in space!! As he swims about the universe rather lonely (unless he meets space whales) I wonder what thoughts and music goes through his mind?” Whipped up some spacey textures on the 3rd Wave, SY99 and C15, and this is what manifested from the Cosmos….
Techno Babbles On -- HWJ Weekend Challenge 'Techno'
Переглядів 149Місяць тому
This weeks theme was 'Techno' whatever that would mean to us. Well, when I was a kid this is what techno was like for me.... 3rd Wave - doing the old school analog drum machine thing and bassline SY99 - everything else and reliving the vintage experience having fun finding a tempo that mostly synced up with the SY99 LFO's... Apologies again for the few audio glitches. Still never sussed out why...
OstinatoChronic -- HWJ Weekend Challenge '200 or 100'
Переглядів 117Місяць тому
This weekend's challenge was to crank it up and do a jam over 200 BPM or under 100 BPM. I settled on 204 BPM with a nice atmospheric intro... Using the 3rd Wave, SY99 & C15

This weeks HWJ challenge was to bring the funk, and this is what I brought. 99% SY99, with 3rd Wave synth brass and a bit of C15 clavinet. (was up waaaaay to late sorry to the simple vid)
TriProblifunk -- HWJ Weekend Challenge '3 Body Problem'
Переглядів 1572 місяці тому
The theme this week was a jam based around the 3 Body Problem. For my take I decided to set up 3 different bass sequences on the Moog/BARP modular, with quarter, eight and sixteenth note patterns. Then switching between the sequences by taking a S/H from a mix of 3 different rate LFO's for some random unpredictability. The Drums from a Weston AD110 shifts rhythm patterns along with the bass seq...

About a month ago I received my custom purple C15 and between busy work, programming and holiday schedules finally getting it into the Studio ! TickTockTuplets -- HWJ Weekend Challenge 'Polyrhythm/Polymeter'
Переглядів 1293 місяці тому
This weekend's challenge was to play around with polyrhythm & polymeter. Not totally sure of the music theory technical differences, so I just played around with 4/4 bars having subdivisions of 9th, 8th & 6th note riffs/arpeggios interacting with each other with added stereo fun. 99% SY99, featuring some Hydrasynth at the end.
Bassy McBass Bass
Переглядів 2673 місяці тому
This week's theme was bass, bass & more bass to bring out your Bass Face. Recruited the SY99, VL1, 3rd Wave and PolyBrute. Live improvisation over the bass and drums. Did three takes, this sucked the least LOL. Good to be back and jamming, though quite a bit rusty... only forgot where I was twice in this one :)

I was just coming from the Muse video, and wow! You managed to get a poly pad like that out of a 90s fm synth! It really does sound huge!
I wanted say something clever about how you can get similar sounds in other ways for less, but honestly I gotta admit, it sounds really really good! I'm damn impressed by the muse so far. Fantastic demo. That first patch *chefs kiss*. Also the low end of Bassionic.
Nice synth, but nothing really new for the high elevated abusive price... thanks.
Troppa compressione. Poca dinamica.
Why does your video look old asf
looks better then it sounds; as it has a rather clean sound it seems the old synths has more warmth
I disagree, It’s 100 not clean at all, it’s bright and gritty, and oscilators are distorted at the base level it seems It has warmth, but the warmth is over shadows by bright harsh overtones I think
Это странно, но он не звучит как Moog. Он звучит как behringer deep mind
Vox Humana in there ?
Yup! Patch #1 natch... These particular example patches are from my contributions to the presets. Vox Humana was done (very well!) by one of the other sound designers.
Very aMusing!❤️🙏
Nice work!
Pad heaven, beam me up Scotty!! 🛸
Someone needs to get this guy a camera. But great patches by him.
I know, I know.... and thank you!
I guess it was either the synth or a camera.. good thing he went for the synth :)
Those are lovely sounds!
Absolutely brilliant loved it🎹❤🔥🎧
that chorus is delicious
love the arpegiated patches. do that some sort of karplus strong to get the tines?
Great patches. That’s some kind of instrument!!!
All these different modern polyphonic synths just to play the same thing. By same thing I mean press and hold where no musical statement can be longer than six sometimes eight notes. All with big fat bass and exaggerated reverb where everything is all awash for the press and wait player or better yet the arpeggiator to make up some music. They all can sound the same . They all sound like electronic accordions with reverb and need the reverb to mask how horrible they really sound.. The pipe organ and Hammond organ defined what you could do with polyphony. But we do not have modern musicians who can use poly synths for anything else other than PADs . The modern musicians made best use of mono synths were Keith Emerson, Jan Hammer , George Duke, Chick Corea and the like for soloing. So we have a well received role for mono synths or duophonic for improved soloing with polyphonic real time instruments like Rhodes piano, Grand piano, Hammond organ . But what to do with a polyphonic synth with only one keybed? We have woefully inadequate midi standard which makes it impossible to initiate two notes simultaneously much less 8 and catering to press and wait players are satisfied with the random delay imposed on their notes by the whole scanned midi approach, it is no wonder that human music making is suffering a decline. All the Synths that made synths popular were monophonic synths with real time resistor ladder keybeds with no multi millisecond random latency inserted between pressing a key and hearing the sound. The feel of the bassline on an old Mini Moog was because it plays what you play in real time. Modern scanned midi pipeline synths cannot play what you intend. You would not buy a DAC or CD player that inserted random times between the initiation of notes played by the artist but the musician creating the music in real time are expected to put up with it. The technology exists to monitor all 61 keys on a keybed simultaneously with a FPGA so we can have real time polyphonic keyboards and Moog should champion dual real time 61 keybed analog polysynths instead of rewarming the Moog One. The big advantage of analog is that it can play bass with a attack delay shorter than the period of the note. 40 Hz has a period of 25ms and so a 4th order digital filter will introduce a delay of maybe 0.1 sec so the best you can do with digital is press and wait and use reverb to cover it up. For analog to be of real value you have to drive them with a real-time keyboard.
No doubt monophony and polyphony are completely different idioms as it comes musical expression; and what one can do on a violin or saxophone are quite different than what can be done with a piano or organ, etc. The Muse fully supports Mono mode, and with the modulation options can do a lot of expression in that idiom. And, with Unison mode it's HUUUUGE. The musical styles of those you mentioned is definitely NOT mine! I suggest you watch Lisa Bella Donna's video ua-cam.com/video/TYFQ0VVpqFM/v-deo.html
Oh yeah, if you press a key on a pipe organ you hear the sound in that very millisecond - not! There are so many acoustic instruments with very slow transients - players compensate that unconsciously by starting to play tones some milliseconds earlier. MIDI synth players do the same. So what‘s you point?
@@RayyMusik That is a problem with pipe organs so not many percussive or syncopated rhythms like on a Hammond Organ but many organist can train to play with a constant delay just like I can play a guitar riff with the amp 20ft away. The delay is constant . With midi scanned keybeds there is a random delay which cannot be anticipated and affects the player and the listener; both lose focus and intensity.
@@transpermeance1535 What are those “midi scanned keyboards“ you‘re talking about? Midi is an interface between different instruments and not involved in the tone generation within one synth.
Thanks Manny! 👍 Proud to be on the sound design team with you!
Hamamatsu Tines was the first patch I heard from the Muse back in May when I was ablew to play with it. Instantly knew it was one of yours 😉
First patch has sold me lol. A great achievement well done :)
Misha Manoor does a much better job playing that patch in the official Moog video ua-cam.com/video/gcvqUOypTuk/v-deo.html
Is it really Moog-y sounding? Do you love it?
Yes, and yes!
Cre8Audio Capt'n Big-O is such an underrated great sounding VCO ! - this perfourmance is Topnotch ! 🤗👍
Totally agree & great value too! It would probably be more highly regarded without the "pipe tokin' dude" panel graphics 🤣
Nice work Manny!
very cool!
Fantastic
Gotta love those OSC's great stuff Manny
Waiting for them to start shipping the Complex Oscillators -- the 'proper' Buchla osc's 🤣

Nice sounds and setup. Good work.
hello again:-)
Cool track.
Great modular jam.
Superb! Can't wait to hear where you end up with these new modules
fantastic jam... cool setup too! Enjoyed it...
Cool mysterious groove ✨🔥✨👌 the stereo panning reverb sounds are great too. Nice jam! ✨💯✨
Bucthlaaaaalarrrlaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrggghhh love it great sounds :)
the 1st prize of the "real" Kobol 17000€ it dates from 1978 and it's French i don't know if it's still manufactured fortunately there are emulations today
Brilliant - going to see if I can get close on my MODX
Hi, sounds good. Is it also possible to make on PC3A8 too, or in PC3K8 only?
So-so. The "Is This FAAAAAT" pad on the Roland JX10 absolutely smokes that nonsense.
feel free to post it, I'd like to hear it!
Brilliant
Where's Gary Numan when you need him?
Nice path, for sure not the fattest, but still very nice.
I wish Yamaha to release SY99 VST
Someone is working on one... ua-cam.com/video/9h4XJZHXvvQ/v-deo.html
Love the patch you came up with. SY99 is still a really nice synth that was kind of its own animal. They did not hold there value very well thou, which is surprising considering everything that series will do. Excellent explanation on how you set up your patch. I have considered purchasing a used SY99 a few times in the past. I am going to see how hard it is to mimic what you have done here on some of my other synths.
That's clever making the wet reverb with the AWM engines!
Thanks for watching. It's actually the other way around due to the EG restrictions so AFM wet, AWM dry -- watch the "Deep Dive" vid
@@DrSynth Oh cool, I was hoping there'd be more SY videos too! These detailed explanations/walkthroughs are really helpful, thanks for making them!
I know what i'll be doing tomorrow ...
Done. T'was not easy because the data entry slider on my 77 is forked up and keep moving values at random, as soon as I look elsewhere ...
This sounds Great , completely dry too. Very impressive 👍 excellent walkthrough too Manny thanks! 🙏
Best synth ever
Very Gary Numan type sound. The best of the SY77. ❤ Have you any patches for sale?
Not currently; I have put quite few in the Files section of the SY77 TG77 SY99 Facebook group
