Higgins gets his dash installed
I ended up recovering the dash rail because I wasn't happy with the first attempt. This one came out much better.

Who Shot Higgins!? Or starter repair, part 2

The title today comes from a comment left on part 1. And, spoiler alert, there's another cliffhanger at the end. Sorry. But, parts are now on order. So part 3 should get everyone some closure.
Higgins is BROKE!

Higgins and I were out running errands yesterday when he suddenly refused to start after stopping by Mrs O's work. She and and nice young lady who was self-proclaimed "skinny but strong" pushed Higgins so I could pop the clutch to start him and get him back to the house.

Got the seat back covers done just in time for the Saturday road rally. And they helped a lot! Not real pretty to look at, but functional. This is a new upload. I cut out the 5 minutes of black screen at the end of the previous version.

Your not far wrong ,it is indeed the worst smelling oil in the world !
Did you spray both parts or just the dash support?
Both parts.
Loog good.
Thank you.
you should try a heat gun for stretch on the curves outsides so it doesn't fold on itself
Thanks. I'll try that on the other pieces that have complex bends.
I would have splurged on a brush for the glue.
I could have, but my experience has been that this type of glue pulls out the bristles of the brush.
@@50lbbrain I should have known you knew better!
@@irideaduck939 thank you for your confidence in me. But it could be I used cheap brushes in the past. This glue is pretty awesome. It's used for repairing rafts and other stuff where it has to remain flexible even after it's set up and dried.
Nater said the brakes are touchy! He was super sorry you hit your head on the visor. 😬
I always laugh about the funky styling on those old electric cars. “The Dorito”, love it. Hope it sells for you.
Good times!
That chopped open roof car is a prince. Pretty rare
Better than new! Well done, my friend, well done!
Thank you brother.
That was very interesting and I feel like I could rebuild a starter myself. Where did you get the thin insulation material?
I put a link in the description. It's from McMaster Carr. I did.002"; go thicker and do only one layer.
The "hacksaw tool" is called a growler. Sets up a magnetic field around the armature and checks for shorts with the hacksaw blade held just over the armature body. Turning the armature on the fixture makes a growling sound hence the name. The hacksaw blade will vibrate when it senses a short. A must-have when working on motors.
Yeah that!
First thing I would have done is hit the side of the starter case with a long piece of metal like a tube to shock the brushes. This would get it working and prove that the brushes need replacing later.
Starter looks good did you check the engines not seized
I drove the car home after the starter failed.
And I found evidence of arcing on the stator casing and field windings.
@50lbbrain You're getting so big! Nicely done!
Thank you!
Why do I feel like I'm watching a 1970's season finale with "To Be Continued..."? 🤣 Peace and love to you, my Brother! Hope you're doing well! Lovin' the saga of Higgins!
I could've called it "Who shot Higgins" and make you wait all summer for closure 😂 I'm glad you're enjoying my saga

This is very insightful showing details and frustrations with replacing steering wheel. Have not got to that on my restoration yet but looking forward to it. Thanks 50lb brain.🧠
You forgot to put wheel on
The manufacturer's name is in the description.
By the way, what company makes that system
I like that system. I have a 54 Chevy with a different bag. I have issues with leaking. Thanks for the leakage tips.
Glad to help.
Actually it's exactly like a home reno show! Four hours summed up in 17 minutes.
Good stuff enjoy your meal
Cool,pin?
Was really hoping to see the crankshaft pulley install as that seems like it’s the toughest part of the job. After googling this, I’ve run into a couple of people saying that the polish shears off the woodruff key. Any problems yet with yours? Also, what did you torque down the crankshaft pulley to?
I like that! Drive him around. Gotta keep em moving . Nothing like cruising in your classic whenever you want to. Panels came out great!
Looking very, very good.
So familiar to any gear head. Start one project and end up doing two more to finish the one. I just did that on my 54. Hang in there. Higgins is coming along fine.
Exactly!
Thames 800 was a British van so probably came from Canada

😂That Rambler Cross Country wagon aboutva 61 would be a good candidate for a hotrod long roof. Drop a V8, an OD Auto tranny, AC rewire it and you hsve a unibody interstate cruiser.

Why does People open the doors and then they dont close them, when they leave????!!!
That was the request of the front office when we checked in: if we open a door, hood or truck, please close it when we are done.
That IH Travelette is worth saving. Super rare. The 60’s model Thunderbird you walked past at 27:00 probably had the tilt away steering, normally standard on them.
The swing away steering was more popular on the T-birds than the Galaxie. And the turn signal parts were different between the two.
@@50lbbrain That I know, grew up around Thunderbirds and Galaxies.
@@jeffreypinder9398 I finally found an NOS turn signal cam assembly for my swing away Galaxie on eBay. My TS cam was broken so the turn signals wouldn't self cancel anymore. And the cams are different between Swing Away and a fixed steering column. I just wanted to see how rare the swing away steering is on the galaxie. And apparently very rare.
I'm not going to complain about your camera skills. I seen a couple other comments. You can buy car guy with the best camera skills and be looking at something like this and just go ape anyway! I know I would. Thanks for going out there to film and share this with us
