With the passage of the new farm bill, HB251, it seems there are more questions than answers so I figured the best thing to do was to download the bill and the summary, study it, and then talk to the folks who wrote and helped pass the bill. In this interview, I talk back and forth with both Rep. Kevin McCabe who was a key player in making helping get this bill through to pass and Rep. George R...

THE FASTEST (AND TASTIEST) ... (AND HEALTHIEST) ... WAY TO PRESERVE BROCCOLI
Переглядів 217Місяць тому
I made an accidental discovery a few years ago in that I realized I could steam things for the freezer that I was used to blanching. I had no idea the game changer it would be for me! First of all, when you blanch broccoli, for example, you must boil it for 3 minutes. This means you must get your water to the point of boiling, then put the broccoli in, bring it back to boiling, and then strain ...

So helpful! I would love to see additional videos! Spring etc. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!
I add milk kefir to my sourdough bread, make pancakes & smoothies, mostly! I love Haskap berries! Thanks from Alberta, Canada. 🤗🇨🇦🌻
Hi 👋 can I know how much grains if I want to make 1 ltr of fresh milk? TQ
Thank you for this video! I've tried preserving my broccoli harvest by blanching and freezing and my broccoli ended up mushy and awful. I was so discouraged! This makes sense! I have some questions. Is the broccoli still firm once steamed? Do you wait for it to be dry before you freeze in zip locks? How long does it last in the freezer? This video was very helpful, Thanks for posting it!
Thank you so much! More videos!
What a wonderful video! Curious if it’s too late to cover crop now that we’re getting lows in the mid 30s?
This is amazing, I love her! Where can I find more content from Ellie Vendevisse?
Thank you so much!! I learned a lot.
I'm so glad!
Glad to know you can get Azure in Alaska
We are so grateful, too!
My kefir grains are not very big or translucent, am I doing something wrong? Just subscribed 🤗
Sometimes they haven't been well taken care of prior to you getting them and they just aren't in the greatest shape. However, if you feed them a quality milk daily, they will soon be nice and plump and happy! Keep up the good work - it's worth it!
Thank you so much for replying! I’ve had micro colitis for a year and a half at this point, and milk, Kiefer and Lreuteri yogurt have helped immensely! I was a flight attendant for Alaska airlines for eight years and lived in Anchorage for three of those years. So excited to have subscribe to your channel.
Some people say small grains make better and quicker kefir!
@@commongroundalaska Thank you! They are getting raw gurnsey milk🤗
@@Connie-sh3kf It is very tasty!
Do you have smoothie recipes
I don't do recipes much because I just use what we have on hand. A good general recipe is a quart of kefir, a cup of berries, and 1/4 cup of maple syrup.
How can we buy the grains
If you're local, we always have some for sale at the farm. Send me an email and I'd be happy to leave some at the sign for you.
I feel proud having some of the grains 😊❤
Right? I hear you!
Is milk kefir lactose free? Also do you tighten the lid on the jar with the new kefir or does it need to be loose?
Great questions! I believe there is still some lactose although it is minimal in milk kefir - because the grains eat the sugars. :) I tighten it and it sits on the counter. I change it out daily. :) Hope that helps!
@@commongroundalaska thank you.
How can we get some kefir grains?
If you're local, we usually have some available. Send me an email at tandy@commongroundalaska.com and we can make arrangements to leave them down at the sign for you. :)
I bought mine from Amazon for $14.99. Fusion Teas 1 TBSP Organic Milk Kefir Grains. I live outside the US, so it took about 2 weeks to arrive in the mail, but the grains arrived with no problems. I was expecting the worst, because of the heat, but they were fine. The grains seem to travel very well.
@@Paddy_G thank you
It’s all about good cop bad cop. You will always have someone to blame.
Not sure what you mean - We aren't blaming anyone for anything? I was just trying to get the info out about the new farm bill so it's much more clear for folks. :)
Hello from Central Illinois! I love Azure Standard.
We do too! Welcome!
Can you leave your kefir grains in the fridge until you are ready to use them?
Yes you can. It will still ferment but it slows down the process.
I always enjoy your videos. ❤
Thank you so much!
Are you using ultra pasteurized milk? I found it just didn’t work unless I use the vat pasteurized milk or fresh milk.
We don't drink ultra pasteurized milk so I wouldn't have a clue how that works. For the kefir I sell, I use the Alaska Range Dairy milk which is vat pasteurized (minimally) but for our own, we use raw from our raw milk shares.
👍 that’s the milk I use also!
lol. I didn’t watch long enough
Yep, because weeds are our friend , they carry to the top minerals ...just cut the leafs off put them on top around vegetables as a mineral additive
You got it!
So cool. Hey from a #Texas farm.
How fun! Howdy from the other side of this great nation!
Hi, I really enjoyed your haul. I had a question on how much sunflower lecithin do you put into one loaf of bread? TY
Boy, that totally depends! I have a recipe for regular bread that takes 1 TBSP - but my sandwich bread takes 3 TBSP.
Hi, I subscribed to your channel today. Watching from Albania.
Oh wow! Welcome to our page!
Hi, can you please tell me know how many bunches of cilantro are seen on the video? Just want to understand how big are their bunch. Thank you..
There are two bunches - and each bunch has two in it. :)
Could you please add how long the kefir stays good in the fridge if you don’t use it all when you make it? Also, do you use a full cup of kefir in the smoothie as you would milk?
It can stay in the fridge for months, maybe years, of course I would recommend diluting it if you plan on drinking it because it will be extremely sour after all that time.
It won’t go bad, it’ll just become less pleasant tasting. But you don’t have to worry about consuming kefir that’s gone bad
Thanks.
Thank you, both, for doing this video. I am so happy to be around natural folks! People always looked askance at me for using herbs with myself & my kids 25+ yrs ago.
There is certainly quite the divide - Keep up the awesome work!
I recommend the South American guinea pig. It's stronger, more resilient, need less effort and the meat is more nutritious .
Interesting! WIll have to reasearch! Thanks for the input!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Today, I ate many in my city, Kuopio.
Sooo yummy, aren't they?
This was so helpful, thank you!
Oh good! I'm sure glad to hear that!
Kristen is really a pioneer in Alaska! Thank you for bringing truth and awareness about our food and our health. You ladies make a difference.
SHE IS! Just absolutely LOVE her and we're so grateful for the work she's doing!
Yay!!! I'm excited to hear this great news! Thank you, ladies!👏❤👍
Thank you! 💚
Of course!
Really how much increasing dry feed when fermented?
This is a wonderful announcement!! 💚🤩 Very exciting thing Tandy!
🎉how exciting
That's so cool to hear you worked there in logistics! I'm actually having a 2nd interview next Friday with Karen! :) So hoping I get the job/I L-O-V-E Azure and all it stands for!
How did your interview go?
@@commongroundalaskaGreat! I got the job!!!
In Italy we have Saskatoon berries but nobody knows that these berries are edible.
OOH! They are so so good! They are missing out, big time!
Margaret is a true blessing in this world!
Oh gosh, so much so!
Such an underrated subject and a shame this has so few views.
...meaning, when you must Choose between 2 'applets' of the same size & condition, "Choose to Keep" the one with the larger/thicker/more-robust stem..?

Rule #1 for homesteading: You are going to make mistakes, and it's OK. Rule 2# : Learn from your mistakes and try again. Who knows how many times I will find to make mistakes, but that is how I learn. I just hope they are all small mistakes.
This was so helpful! Thank you!
We will be there! We are very excited, & can't wait to see y'all
I am so thankful that you sent this. As a vendor, my helper and I would have been misserable without coffee!
I have been looking at those mushroom supplements, and I use that collagen every day in my coffee.
I planted horseradish roots last summer. They did wonderful. I planted them in a large water trough to keep them contained since they spread horribly. We live on the north side of Palmer heading towards Sutton.👍
