Winterizing Bonsai 2024
Переглядів 71День тому
Join me in today in the process of winterizing my winter hardy trees to spend their winter outdoors. This is the first time I am going to leave my stoneware pots outside in the winter and I hope they will not crack, as some of them are quite precious! However, I had to leave them outside as the hardy trees suffered in the garage last year and I have lost some of my favourites, amongst them, the...

Coming to nature in plein air offer requires silence, as it feels more respectful and natural that way. Rock garden planting + scented geranium cuttings
Переглядів 3522 місяці тому
Join me in today as I am playing with rocks and plants creating a fun composition. When the cooler months come, I am drawn more into indoor plants and love to surround myself with greenery. This simple composition is so easy, anyone can make it! I am also planting a new plant to me: scented geranium, also known as mosquito plant. I found unusual uses for the leaves and am quite enjoying it!

Ultimate Glaze Test Tile Design & Display

Painting with acrylic paint on a fabric of a hoodie for myself to wear

I'm preparing for my first calligraphy and painting show on my 46th birthday, and to celebrate this special occasion, I made a piece of clothing for myself to wear. I used acrylic paint and Chinese Ink, both mixed with Americana Fabric Medium, which allows for the colours to stay on fabric and not wash off. The hoodie is a cotton mix from Micheals Craft store. It was a fun little project that t...

Gadzooks Izabela, do your talents show no boundaries!?! I love water colors and watching you recreate your visit to that tree next to the waterfalls was amazing...Like your pottery, your painting is beautiful and reveals part of you to us your audience...Thanks for sharing...
Thank you so much for this heart warming comment! I'm glad you enjoyed watching the process, watercolours are my favourite
Excellent! I think you did a great job. wesołych świąt i szczęśliwego nowego roku
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 Dziekuje! Wesolych Swiat I Szczesliwego Nowego Roku 2025!!!
@@gaeangardensbyizabela Thank you, Izabella. I am not good with Polish. I use the Polish translate to do the Polish. My parents never taught us because as kids, they would talk english until the juicy gossip came about and then into Polish so we would not here. Stay well and enjoy Midnight mass. I loved all the Christmas carols in Polish at the mass with my parents.
Are you still going to Polish Church over Christmas? Haha, your grandparents were smart! Mine turned to German when the kids were around., they both had to learn German during the war. My grandpa was taken away to Germany to work and my Grandma was able to stay home and take care of her elderly mom, but she had to work for a Nazi Officer as a housework. So much history! What year did your grandparents come to USA?
With my glazed pots I place them into the soil just even with the rim and then the leaves on top. Pot and tree survived. Fingers crossed on the survival of your trees and pots. Nice idea digging down and covering with leaves and enclosing the trees with the fence. It will help to keep the leaves in place. I cannot wait till spring to see how yours survived. wesołych świąt i szczęśliwego nowego roku
Warm your way. Right now it is 12F/-11.1C with a windchill of 0F/-17.77C.
It looks good Izabela, good timing for sure!! I think the blanket of snow will do the trick!!
@@TheBonsaiZone thank you, Nigel! I'm counting on the snow blanket as well
Good luck with the tree protection!
@@DavesBonsai thank you, Dave!
Just curious, what are you doing to prevent mice and critter damage??
The chicken wire will discourage the bunnies, and squirrels or mice never showed any interest in the trees, other than trying to burry nuts in the pots or picking the moss when the trees were still on the bonsai benches. I am hoping they will leave them alone. They did in the past years, so fingers crossed!
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been debating this technique myself, please keep us updated how it goes in the spring!
@@dreamingofbonsai oh yes, I will film the unpacking, fingers crossed all pots will make it!
A nice tour in the woods. Fresh air!
Great video, breaking down the how to was very helpful, thanks 😊
Nice views, here in Stockholm it come and go some little snow but no real layer yet. Cheers

Izabela, you put just the info i was looking for in this video, plus delivered in a zen way. Thank you. You mentioned something about a video featuring how to use tools for scraffito., but I can't locate it on your site. Thanks in advance!
@bethdroppleman thank you for your input and I'm so glad to hear my video has helped you! Beth, my apologies, after reading your comment I realized I never edited this video and didn't post it. I actually have all the footage though and now you gave me a motivation to put it together. What would you like to learn about sgraffito tools?
Very inspirational. Relaxing under the tree is the best way to relax one's mind from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Your paintings are cool and I like that you can keep them in a book for yourself. Great video.
Such beautiful scenery and an artist you are. Cool painting. I like the fallen leaves and the crunch under foot. The woods are fascinating and you have some great inspiration to draw. That single tree is a dandy. You have the gift, Izabela.
@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thank you for your kind words and encouragement, Tom! Thank you for joining me on this adventure, I'm glad you enjoyed the leaves crunch
Listening to some happy snappy Polka music while watching and enjoying your video. Lil Wally was my favorite.
I believe you meant "plein air"... nothing plain or ordinary about a magical forest inspiring a talented painter such as yourself :)
@@Aftek thank you for that spelling! I had a feeling it was not plain lol
I keep meaning to try this, but I felt exactly like you about it! I think I’m ready now...🙏💙🙏💙🙏💙🙏
@erinbuchanan6489 I'm so glad to hear that, let me know when you try it! Just do it
I've gotta try geraniums!
@t3dwards13 yes, it's your sign 😉
Always nice see all your pots and you made some attractive arrangements there. Scented geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) has always been a favourite indoor plant and always keep a couple at home and there are some variants on the type of scent they spread I noticed (some are more citrus like and some almost cinnamon-ish etc). They been a classic staple here in Sweden and mostly traded privately and not so much sold.
@Tybold63 I'm late to realize how amazing it is, but better later than never. My sister just moved to Sweden, and she was saying she's hoping to get some scented geranium too. It's nice to hear it's a staple in Sweden. It's in Poland too, but somehow, not in my family. I guess my mom was never into house plants until she retired, and my grandma just had ficus elastica that took so much space. She also grew ivy indoors and ferns, which don't seem to be so common here in Canada. Warm greetings!
@@gaeangardensbyizabela I really appreciate your reaction Izabela and hope your sister find it good in Sweden despite some increased violence in some urban areas (or so the media let us understand it). I would love visit Poland that has so rich history and also connection to Sweden (not always so friendly though I might add...) but think it is much better and those who fight are not common people but power hungry leaders, right?
@Tybold63 you would love it in Poland, such a beautiful country and rich history. My sister loves it so much, she feels at home. She said Swedes are naturally very kind and avoid conflicts and that's our nature too! She sent me pictures of trolls in the woods and I'm obsessed with them, I started to make a troll planter out of clay inspired by this. I think the violence comes from pain and suffering, I believe in life that is peaceful and kind. We create our lives by our actions everyday and nothing is ever lost or in vain. We all have violent history as humans, now is the time to forgive and understand, move on and heal. Thank you for such a lovely conversation!
When and how do you apply the second color? For example the red color on your black slip sgraffito.
@curlylady3659 if you want to fully cover it, you can apply it when the previous layer is dry- no more shine on it. But you can also blend colours when they're wet too, just like with a painting. Sometimes the clay underneath gets rehydrated so much that you have to wait till it dries to be leather hard again. It's fun, give it a try and you're learn from doing it
Now you have to try a geranium bonsai. I bet you would be great at making one. Great video, Izabela!!! I like the bird in the pot. Tea is good in cold weather.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 I think Jay made one inspired by you! You started a trend, Tom. And I'm finally at the geranium party 🤣
Great compositions. I like scented geraniums. They turn out great and the scent on some of them is something else. Have you seen the Vancouver Geranium? Very cool looking leaves that almost look like maple leaves turning in the fall. Super cool color on them.
@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 no, I haven't seen it! Seems like geraniums are coming to me this year, I fell in love with the scented kind
Very nice arrangement with the Aloe. The little guy looks like he is in deep meditation. Cool.
Dziękuję! Nice to have some good old fashioned remedies that worked for our parents and grandparents.

Hi just seen your video on making a large oval bonsai pot that looks fantastic what clay do you use and Do you need to put it in a kiln I would love to make one but don’t have a kiln Kind regards David from England
@davidhughes4020 hi David, in my video description you can read what clay I used, it's cone 6 stoneware, it does need to be fired. If you don't have a kiln you can look for a place to fire it for you, local community club or private places. Look up kiln space for rent, there's a website that shows local places, good luck!
