Happy Black History Month ✊🏾
Very informative video thanks
I just got out of the woods so I'm excited to read it
I read an ARC of Out of the Woods and I loved it! I’m definitely looking forward to The Love Lyric.
I thought I did but goodreads said no, I just keep adding them to my tbr lol. I'll make it a point to read her this year 😊
So many books being released that look promising! I’m looking forward to King of Ashes and Harlem Rhapsody too but there are so many new to me authors that I have on my TBR. So I’m excited and hoping they will deliver 😊
love ya channel keep going 💙
Black in blues, good dirt, Harlem rhapsody, and theft all sound like books my brain is excited to devour.😁
I’m looking forward to Death of an Author - I have it on hold, but I am far down the list. Thanks for this great list. Always lovely 💕.
Thanks for this! I’ve put several of these on my list. Didn’t know Tia Williams was hitting us with a YA! Nice!
yay!😊
Interested!
Before the coffee gets cold sounds like the "Midnight Library "
What an adorable kitty! I second everything you said about The Traveling Cat Chronicles and I can't wait to pick up the other two. I also got We'll Prescribe You a Cat in December which I beleive falls into that genre as well. I have only read the first Finley book and fun fact, it is set in my neck of the woods, which made it even more fun for me. By Her Own Design sounds fascinating, I will be sure to look for it.
I just finished The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley in preparation for the tv show that comes out next month.
Aaahhh I've never read a Lucy Foley book, but they all sounds and look entertaining!
I love Lead me where the light is ours N.galilea's book. I want to read Jane Austen's EMMA
Oooo I also want to get my hands on EMMA! I don't believe I've ever heard of the first book you mentioned. I'll have to look into it.
By Her Own Design is one of my favorite Historical Fiction reads of all time. There is also a great photo book that tells the story of her life and starts with the picture of Jackie O’s wedding dress to JFK which she designed. It show some of her greatest works. 😊
I definitely want to get a hold of that photo book! I agree that By Her Own Design is top tier historical fiction!
hahahahahahaha! I am no fan of no cats! Lol I think they are cute in cartoons. 🤭 The book sounds nice still.
LOL! Cats are either you love them or you hate them type of animals. ;)
Aww, hey Landon 😻 I’m gonna have to pick up that Finlay Donovan book this year, I like a good cozy mystery full of laughs.
He says, "Hi there!" Yes, I think you'll have a good time with the series for sure!
Love your list of books I added to my tbr. The Finlay Donovan books are a lot of fun. Aww, cute cat ❤!
Yay! I'm glad you were able to find some possible reads! Landyn says, "Thank you." :)
Loving the cat cameo appearance 😺
Thank you! We are so happy to have Landyn join our family recently!!!
It’s so much unconscious competition when it comes to reading goals. When I started setting goals by count, my passion for reading waned. Like who am I racing and why lol
Exactly!
My goal is to read 52 books this year with 12 of them being nonfiction.
I love the nonfiction part of your goal! It will be interesting to see how many nonfiction books I consume this year.
I need to read with less urgency, too! I get so focused on getting to the next book that I forget to slowly savor what I’m currently on. Thanks for mentioning that, as it’s a good reminder for me!
Aaah my pleasure! I love when my book buddies and I connect on goals!
I too decreased my number goal, I set it to 50. Just because I have work goals that may take up additional time I’d be using reading. And I made a list of prioritized books that I want to get to this year over new releases. I still plan to read new releases but I’m going to revisit my priority list to make sure I’m getting to these books I’ve been putting off. However, I don’t even know how many new releases I read in 2024, might not have been a lot 😂
I love that we are both slowing down and enjoying the reading journey! So many books, so little time lol
My main goal for this year is to read more books that I already own. I love my library so much that I always run there for books instead of reading what I already have
That’s a great goal! I need to do that as well.
hi denise!😊
Hi love! How have you been???!!!
I lowered my reading goal so I can take my time with the books I read and not feel like I need to hurry and finish them
Doesn't that feel good?!
I absolutely get what you're saying about reading new releases. I took stock of 2024 releases that I bought last year but didn't get to, and it was frustrating that they were in my hands but I didn't follow through. Most of the new releases that I read last year were for my book clubs, which is great, but I want to do better.
Let me know what you end up reading this year! We got this!
I feel much like you. I want my reading to be more intentional. I missed out on new releases last year because I was so deep into reading challenges and filling the prompts that I missed some good reads. Also, I want to track my reading better and hope to use Storygraph and my journal. These are the two most prevalent goals I have. I hope you have a fantastic week!
I’m with you! I’m going to use Storygraph this year and am looking forward to seeing the data it provides.
Omg just finding this video now but I've gone the past two years just to browse and purchase books. Looking forward to 2025 going for the day again. I'm going to try and attend a panel this time though instead of just buying books. I do hope they have a comic and graphic novel section, they didn't last year.
I wish they had a comic and graphic novel section too, it would be so much fun! Hopefully we can connect at this year's festival!
Kindred is awesome
Yes it sure is! I'm not usually into science fiction but Kindred became a fave of mine!
I just read the street it was good
Yay! Ain't it though?! One of my all time favorite books!
A book recommendation The Unsettling Ayanna Mathis
Will most definitely check this one out! I've been seeing it here and there for a while now. Thanks for the rec!
Question for expansion but should you be able to tell a book is by a black other from synopsis or shelf sight or should it reveal itself upon selection.
Hi there! Here's a link to all of the books: bookshop.org/lists/12-classics-by-12-black-authors
I need to check out The Fun Habit. My word of the year is More. Time to do more, more self care, reaching out to friends more, more words of positivity to myself, etc. Enjoy your selections!!
It’s a great pick for your word of the year! May you continue to get MORE of what you desire in life my friend!
Just heard about Pride And Prejudice and Pittsburgh from Olive and will definitely check it out. Happy New Year
Yay! Let me know what you think! Happy New Year!
Your January reading looks fantastic. I set up a challenge called 50 for 2025 and will be working mostly on those books. I just finished "Wait for Last Year" by Philip K. Dick and "Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle" by Dervla Murphy. Some books I plan for this month are "Alaska Wilderness: Exploring the Central Brooks Range" by Robert Marshall, "We Will be Jaguars: A Memoir of My People" by Mitch Anderson & Nemonte Nenquimo, "Medgar & Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Lovd Story That Awakened America" by Joy-Ann Reid, and I don't know what else. I guess my January will be heavy on non-fiction, too. I usually get in close to 25% non-fiction a year. Happy Reading & Happy New Year!
Happy New Year and Happy Reading! I hope your 50 for 2025 goal goes smoothly!
Omg!!! Thank you!! Some of these books I have never heard of. I got them in my shopping cart!
You're welcome! I'm glad you discovered some new reads. Happy reading!
Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown
That's been on my TBR for a while. I will bump it up. :)
Walter Mosley is one of my favorite authors!❤❤❤
I can see why now that I've read my first Walter Mosley book!
I have Sky Full of Elephants on my list to be read
Kayla from Books and Lala just brought it to my attention. The concept sounds intriguing and like it will give me a lot to think about.
Africa Town is on Netflix
Oh wow! I didn't know that and will add it to my list now! Thanks for letting me know :)
Lone Women by Victor LaValle. Lord! That man wrote that book! He really did that! That was definitely a page turner and enthralling. Perish and Holla Child by Latoya Watkins was another 2024 favorite read of mine. I have Anne Petry’s The Street on audiobook and I have had the actual book on my bookshelf for several years. I will be reading it soon in 2025. Perfect Peace by Daniel Black was another wonderful read I enjoyed in 2024
WOW! All of these books sound fantastic! May you have the best bookish year yet!
I am find it hard to pick a favorite. Right now, The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain and What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon are topping the list. Can't wait to see what 2025 brings for you!!
I'm so curious to see what 2025 brings for all of us! I'm definitely going to check out the two books you mentioned!
My top read for the year was Razorblade Tears by S. A. Cosby. Other faves of the year were The Reformatory by Tananarive Due, The Queen of Sugar Hill by ReShonda Tate, Next of Kin by Kia Abdullah, Double Lives By Mary Monroe, The World Record of Racist Stories by Amber Ruffin, Single Black Female by Tracy Brown and Don’t Cry for Me by Daniel Black.
Razorblade Tears is a fave of mine too! I read it a couple of years ago. I must get my hands on The Reformatory! Sounds like you had a great reading year!
Doing Tanarive Due Reformatory next week. My recommendation is Lone Women by Victor LaValle I highly recommend this book.
Perfect Peace by Daniel Black was one of my favorite reads in 2024
@@maryburrell3948 love Perfect Peace 💕
Finding Langston was fantastic! I enjoyed the companion books just as much.
I can't wait to dive into the rest of the series!
I’m so excited to get to What You Leave Behind! Her first book was a great fit for me.
I can't wait to hear what you think!
Great list of books and your enthusiasm is contagious - my tbr is now several books longer. Great video 💜
I'm glad you liked it! Enjoy those books as soon as you can!
