Ali Express Cycling Bib Shorts Review: Surprisingly Comfortable Budget Option!

I'm reviewing a pair of Spexcel cycling bib shorts I recently purchased from AliExpress. I've been using much more expensive bibs for years, but I wanted to see if there was a more affordable option that could perform just as well. Key Takeaways: Comfort: While not as plush as my high-end bibs, these AliExpress shorts are surprisingly comfortable and comparable to other mid-priced options. Valu...

    Been looking for this review, thanks! Im currently running a Dura ace dual 1200 powermeter crankset. Im thinking of selling it and buying two sets of these, one mtb version (Dub stNdard) and one road bike, and a set of power meter pedals, that waybi can save grams, get the bike to 6.3kg and swap the power meter pedals on to the mtb tbat currently does not have one. biggest concern is safety.

    Great vid - one thing that I added to my indoor trainer set up a while back was some clip on aero bars. Picked them up off a friend (but they go for v cheap on fb mp) and I find that they’re good for changing up the position on long endurance rides

    • @oliverdowd1996

      Yeah I use aero bars sometimes and they also unlock the potential of playing video games with your hands on a remote control instead of the bars

  • @stevocanuck
    @stevocanuck 19 днів тому

    People look down on the $100 dollar trainers so much including myself I am bit ashamed I fell for the smart trainer trap. It’s so unnecessarily expensive. If you look at the indoor setup riders had to use back in the 80s, it was so inferior to what we use today but cyclists were probably way fitter than the average ones today. I’m specifically talking about the trainer in the obree (2018) documentary that you could see in the first 30 seconds of the film

    • @oliverdowd1996
      @oliverdowd1996 19 днів тому

      For me the main advantage of the more expensive trainers is how quiet they are for the sake of my neighbors. But it's not like you can train any more effectively on a free trainer you found in the trash vs a top of the line trainer. In the end all that matters is seeing the power numbers from a reliable power source.

    • @donwinston
      @donwinston 14 днів тому

      The smart trainer "trap"? There is no trap. Anybody who is serious about cycling is going to have a smart trainer if they can afford it or not ride indoors at all. Power meters are a must to monitor your progress once your fitness plateaus somewhat. The only reason to use a "dumb" trainer is when you don't have the cash. They pretty much last forever.

    I've been using various Aliexpress (mostly Spexcel and YKYW) bibs on my bike commute and they have held up surprisingly well. I also prefer my Asos bibs but for a quick 30 minute spin to work in the rain, they work perfectly fine. Bibs get massive abuse in the winter from the rain, sand, grit and dirt with road riding alone that it is worth having a few pairs of beater bibs lying around. This is my 3rd winter on them and one of them is starting to pill and get thin.

    did you ride a Factor Ostro VAM for your team last year? Besides the difference in shifting and braking do you really notice any difference in ride feel from your S5 to that ~$12k bike? • @oliverdowd1996
      @oliverdowd1996 Місяць тому

      Pure time trial the S5 is faster. Ostro is more comfortabl, more planted on the road, and easier to manage in the bunch because of wider tires and disc brakes. If you ever race in the rain the rim brakes will put you at a big disadvantages. I have a video comparison here ua-cam.com/video/d5TWlgJAxAA/v-deo.html

      I just rode a Rapha Ostro VAM for two days. It's not faster than my old Supersix Evo Black in day to day riding. Comfier with the wider tires and more aero, but heavier, less lively ride feel, less flickable in the corners. I see zero reason to get a new bike unless I am doing rides down long descents or in the wet. My dura ace brakes are just fine, and I prefer my shifting to the SRAM Force etap that I tried

      @@oliverdowd1996 i can say yes this thing unsafe if the pro use it. the metal material they use for the as rot are not as good as used in shimano or sram. lexon riro goldix and other ali brand crank set use the same metal alloy as rod. this 24mm alloy is often break into two piece if the rider put to much force. some not break into two piece but the joint between the crank arm and the as rod are loosen or snap. this is rare occasion and i believe it due lack of inspection and metal quality.

      @@endtimeslips4660 Did you buy this crank and it failed on you? Or did you buy a different aliexpress crank and it failed on you, if so which crank was it? This 24mm spindle is made from titanium, not aluminum. The 29mm spindle is made from aluminum, as is Sram Red per my understanding, but I'm not sure which grade of aluminum Sram uses and what grade of aluminum Lexon uses.

    Thanks for putting up the review they seem like a great crankset, strong following on Chinertown. I'm keen to run these with 12speed ultegra R8100 chainrings. Most likely improved front shifting, and save 35g over the Ryet ones.

    They ruined it with the swappable spindle, added like 40 grams

      Yeah but I guess the folks wanting a power meter would be happy with this move.

    6830 grams 🙂, with rim brake, for small frame size, it would be quiet easy to get sub 6.8. but I guess yours is large size, so it's hard to tell...

      Good guess! I'm on a 56 so not small but also not massive. I think this is also probably the lightest colorway too

      TPU tubes, Dura Ace cassette if you don't run it or drinks bottle holders. Or if it's only 30 grams, cut your excess seatpost! That's defo dead weight.
