I dropped out of a masters program for writing that literally was all about having us being TAs. I was not into it. It's hard finding a program to like (especially with how much I loved our undergrad courses personally 💅)

I don't think I have any problem with the book series I read in past either. Most of them are classics like LOTR, Sherlock Holmes, Witcher etc etc and I've always been a huge fan of detective/crime/serial killer novels and series. If a book/series is good I enjoy reading it, I finish it, and always remember it as a good read, and if not, I just stop reading and probably won't remember even the title after a month 🙃

I was burnt out too, starting in 2020, and had progressively accumulated many physical and mental health issues, including, among other things, loss of creativity, loss of interest/motivation, and some very frustrating short-term memory loss. I quit my full time job in March this year and still very much feel like I'm in the process of recovery. Give it time and give yourself grace. You got this.

I love the inclusion of life stuff in and around the book analysis. Kinda shows the progression of time that goes alongside the reading journey. It's also relaxing when you couple the intimate moments with the little ball of sun and the scenery/changing seasons around you with music and breaks up the more complex analytical thoughts with every day activities. I really liked your shining vlog and in view of your comments about Interview with the Vampire I'd be interested to see what you think of Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King - if you read it you'll understand why I ask in view of what you say in this video. I have Circe on my shelf but am reluctant to pick it up because I read Song of Achilles and I didn't love it. I'm not sure I even enjoyed it although I was always aware of what a skilful piece of writing it is. This was helpful in incentivizing me to read it!

I also was not very into Interview with The Vampire when I read it the first time. Great atmosphere but I was pretty bored. Also Circe are you kidding me. I really enjoyed this vlog. I am a rare creature as I hate the movie version of the shining and it's almost entirely because of Jack Nicholson's performance. He does not portray a conflicted man who has the capacity to be good but whose demons destroy him due to the malignant influence of the Overlook. He plays an over the top lunatic pretty much from scene 1 and I just hate it. The animated fashion he describes hurting Danny during the bar scene and the way he sticks his tongue out in the "bash your brains in scene" are just 2 examples that really irk me. Given how much you enjoyed the book and the way King depicted Jack's decline I wonder whether your experience of the movie will change if you rewatch it knowing how the author actually crafted the story? Bag of Bones is indeed good and a hugely underrated King that few people talk about because it's not a horror is Dolores Claiborne. I hope you do more of these vlogs as that was great.

This was pretty much the same as my experience reading anthologies, too. There's something about the layout of most of them that sort of forces you to read the whole thing even if most of the poems aren't really hitting home just in case you miss one that does. It's a clever way of giving lesser known poets a shot I guess. Also loving the shirt! :D
