Where is this exactly?
Port Aransas, Texas
Hi Lance, What GoFoil wing are you riding in this video?
Gofoil are very light, right? But they seem like out of date, like not producing?
Pretty light and indestructible. Ive had mine since 11/20. They still make new wings and masts.
October! Nicely done with the drone footage and western surf vibes, enjoy the nor'easter this weekend
Yessir! You know October 🤙🏽. Im heading there now!
Yeaahh Great video! Beautiful spot.🤙
Thanks, Nicolas! This spot is so good. But the global foiling community as a whole is totally blind and unaware of it.
Great video! The wind direction made the lefts a little challenging flagging the wing! Tomorrow looks🔥again for Port A. Been a great start to the fall/winter down here.
Thanks @kiteboardingcom it has indeed! Great riding with ya. Were Just getting started.
So smooth, what foil are you on?
I was operating the drone. But the two foil operator’s were both using the North Sonar Carbon SF 1080 & S185 stab with an 85cm mast
What’s the logic behind turning the wing upside down on your toe side direction? (Ozone wing guy)
@Hmanfoil Jeff- the operator of the red ozone wing. I believe he told me he does that because it is less in his way when going down wind and down the line of the wave. Because of the contour of the wing, Kind of being a hardcore V shape. It does seem like the handles and strut could hit water and cause drag if held too low on the wave. Or maybe that wing flags out better upside down?
Very enjoyable voiceover 🤙
@Maximum _AC I really appreciate that Man. Thanks for listening and watching 🤙🏽
Have you tried the Anchor Man drogue for this?
@lanceburkhardt8265 i have not. That Would be fun in these conditions with 2 people. Long rides and long paddle back outs. I’m gonna get a BRM parawing for these side shore wind days with waves. Will be perfect for it!
What day was this? I was stuck at work and missed all the storm swells.
Hey, Billy. This was on Sunday October 6th. Ugh, i hate when work gets in the way of my foiling. I missed all the storm swells when the wind died off during the week. Come ride with us over here next time 🤙🏽

Is being a taller rider an advantage in foiling, especially in generating more speed on pumping foil?
I don’t think it is an advantage in my opinion.
@@Lanceisoutside How about the longer length of the limbs/legs? Is it beneficial for taller riders to have a powerful pump so they can go faster?
@Jonpilo-uz1yf yes, i agree with that. Taller riders may be able to generate more force and leverage with less effort compared to a shorter rider .?
@@Lanceisoutside So it means that a taller rider generally can generate more speed than a shorter rider?
I think physical fitness and skill plays the biggest role. The best pumpers seem to be people in the 15-25 yrs old range.
Hey Lance great video, looks really fun. Curious do you still ever kitesurf in waves in Texas? I’m just getting started in wingfoil I’ve been kitesurfing for a long time now. Keep making videos
Thanks for the support and comment, George. Not as much as i use to. Kiting is all i use to do here before i got into winging. Sideonshore, side offshore and onshore winds are what we have. Waves and flatwater. Good kite crew here. Lots of spots.
You can't be heard because of the music. Just drop the music.
Lol. Sorry about that. There are captions you can read i think. Where on the planet do you foil at? Greetings from Texas
I just bought a mid length prone to do exactly this, surf is crappy conditions and have a ball
Excellent! You’re gonna get so many waves.
How does the solo shot zoom and out, what camera are you using with it. I agree it always great to see girl kiting or winging, even though its rare. Have you done a video on using the solo cam, love to see the camera setup. You also need to do a video on how the power is attached to the mast. I quit college and lived in Maui in 1984 rode hookipa every day. Love the talk over the video. Larry
I concur! Great video ideas there Larry. Maybe i will do them. Ive had requests to do a soloshot calibration video. It zooms in when i get a certain distance away from it. There is a tracker on my arm. I cherish my maui days. Good times. What a spot.
I used to do downwind kite trips from new Smyrna beach to Daytona beach and take the bus back, thats before Uber was around, 20 years ago. Larry
Thanks for sharing that, Larry. Im grateful for the uber service. We have things easier these days eh?
The best thing vs wing foil is you never need to switch feet. No jibing or tacking. Larry
nice man. new deck pad? BTW - I got an Armstrong mid length 65 L board. supposed to be great for prone, also FD. Hope to see you on the water soon.
Thanks Rob. Na man this is a new ghetto foilboard i just made. Looks similar to my old one. Another armstrong board?! Let me know when you go to the coast again.
All your boards masts setups seem really far back Lance. All the boards I’ve been converting recently (longer and harrower) for foilboxed sports are working best with the masts aporox 1/3 from the stern. Curious 🧐
Good eye on noticing that. I put the tracks a little bit further back on this board. I regret doing it because it felt off balanced- too much weight in the front. I ripped the tracks out and moved them foward about 4 inches so it will feel more balanced and comfortable. Almost done with the repair. With GoFoil, the back foot is typically in front of the mast or over it. With other foils like Lift or Armstrong I’ve noticed the back foot is behind the mast typically. That’s why i have mine farther back towards the stern. But on this board i messed up and put it too far back! Haha damnit
@@Lanceisoutside yep. Besides the brands to consider (I use armie) each board distribution of the volume can make vast difference as to where to place the mast. My latest 2 boards have volume in the bow (foilbox moves towards the volume)
Looking good Lance! Nice switch riding too 😂
@JasonNorwoodSPI thank you, Jason! Love that riding switch feeling!
Great vid Lance, the problem with the motors on foils is that newbees use them with others surfers about. There are now bans on all foils motorised or not, in some beaches in Australia.
Hmmm..i don't know..e foil..kinda cheesy. But what do I know. Well I know I was sore as hell after paddle surfing for 4 hours the other day. Probably surfed 40 or 50 waves . The older i get the more sore i feel 😂
Haha! I guess it is an e foil? Wow that’s a big session! Id be destroyed. Especially since i dont paddle much these days 😂. To me, it doesn’t feel like an E foil because its not 70 pounds and have a propeller above the mast. This unit weighs 7pounds 3 ounces in total and the propeller is close to board on mast. So when im riding a wave, its pure waveriding. No propeller or drag. Dont even feel the 7 extra pounds. It’s been very nice to be able to ride waves farther out and not be around any other surfers. (Except on this day for filming)
@@LanceisoutsideRight on👍
Your still here? 😅
Still alive and breathing! Currently somewhere in Tx
What length Mast were you on?
84 centimeters
Nice Lance. C u in da fall
@drgeatman thanks Gordon. Looking forward to the fall.
@@Lanceisoutsideperfect demonstration of foil drive surfing! When you prone you also use 84cm mast?
@George-fj1rz thank you kind sir! Yes, i use my 84 centimeter mast for every foil discipline i do. Prone, sup, wing, foildrive.
Where is this?
@@junazero Corpus Christi, Tx. Come visit 🤙🏽
I´m eighty with two hip replacements and enjoy foiling as well. It took me a long time to get fully foiling gybes into my repertoire but now most of them are pretty good which is a delight. Foiling is much more relaxed than windsurfing with a fin and not having to use a super large sail makes it easier on an old body.
@MrJamescock couldn’t agree more! I recently had a wonderful wing foil surfing session. 3 hrs. Then decided to rig up my kiteboarding gear and go kite. It was a very windy day and i was overpowered on my 9 meter. My body was destroyed after just 25 minutes, i had to come in haha. It reminded me why i love foiling so much. So easy on the body. And quiet.
Do you have a cameraman? It looks like you are using a following gimbal? If you could let me know that would be amazing!
I do have a cameraman. But it’s not human 😆. It’s called a “soloshot 3” robotic cameraman. Worth every penny. I have a tracker tag on my arm that the camera tracks. They have a newer version which i heard is better and faster to calibrate. Get that one.
@Lanceisoutside I've been looking at the SoloShot but the reviews are mixed. I'm glad I heard something positive from you🤙keep on shredding
@Salty_Ocean thanks mate. It doesn’t work perfect all the time. But when it does, its very nice. Hard to get a human to film me for the whole session.
@Lanceisoutside you think that it's worth the set up and money? Also, does it ever just point at the sky or ground, if so, about how often? Sorry to bother you.
@Salty_Ocean to me its worth it. If i didn’t have one. I would have basically zero footage of myself surfing. I have nobody to film me. It’s all about knowing how to correctly calibrate it. As well as having it in a good location for filming. I does not like the wind. (Footage gets shaky) So i use a trashcan i put over it for a windblock. It has a view port and have poles attached to it. As well as sandbags to keep it from blowing away. Setting it up takes time and patience. They say the latest version is faster to setup. Mine has never pointed at the sky or ground. Sounds like a poor calibration to me. Ive had bad and off center footage multiple times before. But it was caused by poor setup location or calibration. Overall, it’s worth it to me.
You had me at the switch stance........ loved it !!
Thanks, Joe! I really enjoy switching it up.
Amazing conditions!!
Indeed. Love these type of days. Dreamy.
nice you got one.. there are awesome , particularity for an old fart like me
They are unbelievable! Live is good.
Nice footage! More please!

Nice 360’s. I’m starting to work on tacks now as well.
Thanks AK. They feel so good.
How is the summer out there? Specifically, are the bacteria counts crazy high and the jelly fish/sea-lice out of control? I was told in CC it's pretty bad once the water hits bath temps (~85F). What's your input on those things? Curious because the Texas coast looks more and more inviting and I foil a lot.
Summers are nice here. I can recall only one time in the 10 years of surfing here there being sea lice in the water. Never noticed a bacteria problem either. Water doesn’t get that warm here. And if it does its maybe for a week or two at most in the peak summer late august. If you foil alot this Texas coast is for you. Year round wind and waves. Best foiling destination in north America in my opinion.
@@Lanceisoutside Thanks for the reply. It's so cheap there compared to CA and FL that it's almost a no brainer to be there if there's work for you.
Glad you scored up here! That's my favorite prone foil spot! 🤙🤙🤙
What a great spot. Got there the evening before and it was sooo clean! Groomed lines stacked up. I’ll be back!
@@Lanceisoutside Next time you come up, I'd love to join you and the local crew on wing but I'm not at that level yet. I'm working on it. As you said, "putting in the reps".
Yewww. Summer is tanker foiling time you gotta come
Yeah dude! I’ve been keeping my eye out on a light wind forecast.
Guys like you practicing among normal surfers on a normal surf spot scare the hell out of me, you are the reason why I'm considering wearing a helmet - I mean you are quite skillful and a well-experienced surfer but still, that foil can do severe injuries to other people. A friend of mine got nearly killed by an inexperienced foil surfer at a crowded spot., plastic surgery on his face. Why the hell can't you practice foiling on an uncrowded beach?!!
Greetings regular surfer, first off thanks for watching at least some of my video. I guess youre interested in foiling somewhat. You would love it. If you actually watched the whole video, you will notice i am sitting away from the traditional surfers. Im sitting in an area Paddling into and riding waves they have no interest in because they cant ride them. Never do i take off in a pack of surfers or ride through any in this video. They are all in the distance. You see them paddling back out in the channel. Looks can be deceiving from the camera angle. I do my best to stay away from any surfers as much as possible. I have my camera on a jetty and am surfing as close as i can to it for filming purposes. Ive been foiling for over 9 years now and im still alive. And so is everyone else. No stitches or other deaths to speak of. Your shortboard fins are sharper than a hydrofoil wing. So calm down there Mr. Barry. Im having trouble believing you’re considering getting a helment because there’s armed and dangerous hydrofoilers all over your surfing going everywhere and not having respect or common sense. (And your friend story as well) Ive never seen someone trying to learn foilsurfing in front of a surfing lineup. People are afraid to humiliate or embarrass themselves in front of others when it comes to learning to foil. Foils are not razor sharp like surfers seem to think they are. Where do you surf sir? Peace be with you, Barry or David.
@@Lanceisoutside Thank you for your insightful and detailed answer. That is a different perspective. I watched the video again and yes you are right, looks can be deceiving, and you are obviously quite skilled and considerate. So a beginner on an epoxy longboard would maybe a bigger danger. I give you that and have to apologize. I was overreacting. And yes, it's not only the foil surfers that bring me to the idea of wearing a surf helmet - it is more about crowded spots in general. So you got me there ;=). Presently, I am surfing in Peru, Chicama, lots of wing foiler here. But there is plenty of space and they are normally far out. I surfed in Imsouane, Morocco not all foil surfers there were as good as you are (whipping out when trying to catch a wave, foil flying) and the spot is normally packed, with many beginners. Surfboard fins are sharp, yes, but a flying foil is a different story, isn´t it? I mean there must be a reason why a lot of the foil (and wing foil) surfers wear helmets and some even impact vests. I have never seen a surfer with an impact vest (I talk about mortals here, not crazy big wave surfers) But here in Chicama almost every wing foiler wears a thick vest and a helmet and they are good - no beginners. But anyhow - thanks for your answer. Wish ya all the best. David
@David-xm6qn hi David, thank you for your response :) Wow Chicama, Peru and Morrocco. Two amazing looking places i hope to travel to in my lifetime. Look great for watersports. I understand where you’re coming from with foils in crowded lineups. At alot of surfing locations, everyone has to kind of be close to each other with the takeoff zone only being in a certain place. Crowded locations as well. Those conflicts are bound to happen. Yes, some spots are not ideal for foilers of any level with crowded lineups. Some days here at this spot in my video- when its super crowded and small. I wont go out. I go down the beach where it may not be as good but there are zero people. Sandbar breaks here. Waves all up and down the coastline 🙏🏽. I just hope all foilers and surfers and other water enthusiasts can continue or learn to be considerate, respectful and aware of each other on the water. Im thinking most of the wing foilers and surf foilers in chicama wear helmets and impact vests because of the big waves and possibly of the foil coming in contact with the body when they fall? And wingers who do alot of freestyle riding like jumping and flips tend to wear helmets. Wishing you great sessions on the water, David. 🤙🏽 Sincerely, Lance here in Texas. Peace be with you.
GOOD BOY!!
😂
😮absolutely Athlete!🤩
Great video and good to see other older guys also out there doing windfoiling, wingfoiling etc.! I am also an old 73 yr old windfoiler and Wind Wave Foiler (WWF). Lance, your comment below that, “… wing foiling gives you more freedom as when windfoiling you have to travel in certain directions” reflects a common misperception about windfoiling. There is group of us doing Windsurf Wave Foiling (WWF) using small, lightweight sails which can be “flagged out” & depowered easily when wave foiling. This gives us the capability to foil surf waves just like a wing Foiler does. We can let the sail depower, flag it out in a neutral position and foil surf the wave and do downwinders too, riding on the wave energy and foil alone!! We also use sails like the small HotSails Maui Microfreaks in 2.8 - 3.8 sq meter sizes and other soft minimal batten wave sails up to 4.8 /5.7. We also typically use GoFoils too. The best WWF boards are the Reef Warriors - Top Gun boards designed and built specifically for WWF. See: Reefwarriorsboards.com Also check out videos for an example of WWF with Top Gun board designer & builder Casey Treichler. A good example is the one titled; "Windsurf Wave Foiling on Lake Erie Oct 1st & 2nd. Also see the WWF Downwinder video of Casey. .

@michaelrichter7734 lets do some cc bay downwinders on Saturday!
Do you typically launch from Swantner? Is that a better start than TAMUCC or Poeniisch?
If wind is SE, i will launch from college. If SSE i launch from Swantner. College you have to walk to deep water then paddle out some to the bump line. 10-15 min walk/paddle out. Bumps can be small and challenging at the start of run. Beginning of the fetch. 8.2 mile run. At Swantner, i put in at the far south end of park boundary. Hop off steps to sandy bottom. Water is deep after 10 yards. Couple minute paddle out to the good bumps. 5.5 mile run. Then Uber ride back upwind vehicle. (Uber X for wing, Uber XL if you take SUP board.)
@@Lanceisoutside Thanks! I was curious whether you were loading up the gear in the Uber...need friendly Uber drivers! I have done wingfoil downwinders from tamucc to Swantner several times, and usually not on purpose! I have just noticed that sandy bottom there at Swantner for the first time recently and plan to try going out there. Looking forward to getting a downwind/lightwind board and trying just with a paddle some day.
