Everyone's opinions are just that, just like mine! I totally understand where you and your husband are at! :) I am a native Californian born in Hollywood but my business has me always traveling every single month. I sold my rentals in Los Angeles in 2017 and bought my home in Temecula and sold our home in 2020. Moved from Temecula to Austin, TX and my business had me going back to CA, I was commuting. I would fly back & forth, but when I have a month and a half of downtime, I would drive straight from Los Angeles to Austin, TX just to get home and be with my husband. It took me 22 hours, for coffee, fuel & lady's room break all while I had my 20-year-old Chihuahua with me, she was my traveling companion. I loved Austin, TX & Parker, TX, and near Frisco, TX. We lived in North Austin, the border of Cedar Park near Georgetown & Round Rock, TX. Where we lived, we were 20 - 30 minutes away from Downtown Austin which was perfect and we were 15 minutes from the Domain. Honestly, Austin reminds me of a smaller scale of Silver Lake but I still loved how green everything was similar to OR. Austin does have a lot of homeless in the Downtown area, not as bad a DTLA, I worked in DTLA and lived in Montecito Heights in Los Angeles. We left Austin, because of the Tech Giants coming in and it will be or is now a smaller scale of Silicon Valley / San Jose. In Austin, TX 6th Street reminds me of a much smaller scale of New Orleans and Rainey Street is very nice too! I now live in Florida, and the East side of FL reminds me of Cancun and the West side reminds me of Hawaii. Everyone is going to tell you where to go and don't go. My husband and I did the same thing, what is going to be more beneficial for our pockets, and make more money at the same time investing. My husband is also from the East Coast from PA and worked and lived in NY & NJ as he was also in the Military. Austin has a lot of vegan restaurants, as I am a vegan as well. You will love the HEB markets, I wish they were everywhere. Austin prices are well overpriced and it's not worth it anymore, maybe back in 2017 it would have been a steal. If I went back to TX it would probably be outside of Dallas. Here's a trick I use to find a great area because I too can go down a rabbit hole of researching before I plant my feet on the ground, I always look for Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and other Healthy Markets in the area. That will give you an idea of where to live since these are not in every city like they are mostly in Southern California. These markets are only placed in the desired areas, it's an unfortunate way to put it but it's all based on demographics.

Hi Marta, I am following you for a while, I am hungarian and I would like to share with you that you are a strong and beautiful woman who is about to start a new adventure. Being a person myself who lived in 4 countries I can say that I lived in places where I really enjoyed living and lived in places which made me feel miserable. The point is, doesn’t matter what happens you will gain experience, you will learn and you will grow as a human being. Try to concentrate on the positive aspects and follow the flow. Maybe you will be surprised how much you are going to like this change ☺️ I believe in you guys and keep going! Sending hugs from Italy🤗

Unpopular opinion but my favorite US city is hands down Chicago. Food, urban vibes, cool people, walkable, 4 Seasons, always something to do and 26 miles of public water front alternating from beautifully maintained beaches to gorgeously curated parks, and bike paths. Although the city has social issues, in nicer neighborhoods you'd rarely experience any of the problems that affect other areas. I lived in River North and South loop and i preferred South loop vibe better, but RN was more posh. Whenever I'm stateside Chicago's where I go. I'll also add its a quick flight 1hr 30- 2hr to lots of major cities Toronto or Montreal Dallas New York Denver. Summers on the West Coast beach dunes of Lower Michigan are Charming, I can go on and on, but once the city gets public order in line it'll be unmatched.
