    Why does a documentary about the English longbow actually depict a recurve bow which is a different type of bow, not used by the English or Welsh?

    Actually the British were in a different element than Europe. Europe had a system of roads. America did have a good road system outside of the cities. Most Americans were farmers/ hunters. Hunting provided a large part of the American diet. In Britain it was a crime to hunt in the Kings forest. Many Americans had to fight Indians. British citizens didn't have rifles, and there were no n Indians to fight. The British use the volley method of fighting. Soldiers would lineup in rows shot at each other. Americans would hide behind trees, and fight like Indians. Americans rifles were longer for Hunting game. Americans were better shots than the British soldiers.

    At that time England was involved in wars all over the globe. England had overextended itself. Same thing happened to Rome. I have read that this complaing about taxes was not a widespread action. Many colonists lived in simple surroundings and were not affected that much by English legislation. Adam's brother was a smuggler and wanted to eliminate commercial competition by "dumping" the tea. The colony was not that "tight". Public support was not always great. New England ignited the American Revolution. I don't think "The Shot Heard Round The World" was heard everywhere. After the end of the that war, there was the "Whisky Rebellion" against U.S. government taxes. The American Revolution was was more complex than what we read in history books. Nations history books ignore things and glamorize others.

    Not a brilliant General but he knew better than to ever face British regulars in pitched battle. Surprise attacking a bunch of drunk German mercenaries, under difficult weather conditions, was a good calculated move. The British always found the colonies too expensive to defend or control by military means and were at war with France everywhere all the time. They had neither the resources or will to continue. After all the Americans were British countrymen really.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Washington definitely used strategy to his advantage, especially in challenging situations like Trenton. It’s true the broader geopolitical situation, including Britain’s conflicts with France, played a role in the eventual American victory. The combination of Washington's tactics and these larger pressures created a turning point in the Revolution. Appreciate your insight!

      Maybe not a brilliant General, but a brilliant leader. The way he rallied his troops to cross the raging river in the freezing night cold and THEN march 9 miles in wet clothes and bitterly freezing weather is a testament to his amazing leadership that few in history can match. And then of course they went on to defeat the British regulars at Princeton a few days later.

    King George III, whom Jefferson criticized unscathingly in the Declaration of independence, had a son William IV. He eventually came to love the Americans. After he became king, he told the American ambassador he regretted not being "born a free, independent American, so much did he respect that nation, which had given birth to George Washington, the greatest man that ever lived." When William died, Victoria became queen.

    There was nothing genius about this. Henry V was an invader who left home to destroy the lives, livelihoods, crops and villages of people in a neighboring country, who had done him no harm. He only beat a huge army because the French had such a ridiculous strategy

    • @VerifiedHistory
      @VerifiedHistory 22 дні тому

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Henry V was an invader, hence one might argue about the moral worth of his crusade. The Battle of Agincourt, however, also emphasizes crucial military strategies and the need of leadership. Henry's success was much influenced by his ability to take advantage of the terrain, climate, and overconfidence of his opponent, even if the French plan had several defects. This is a multifarious historical event with many angles!

    Renaissance Humanism is such a critical turning point in intellectual history, and it's remarkable how its principles were applied across different fields. In the visual arts, we see this reflected in Mannerism, where artists explored exaggerated forms to express deeper emotional truths.

    Now look at Africa. Predominantly muslim, home of barbarous dictators and the site of the bloodiest genocide in recorded history. The empire knew that the African brain is a violent and base thing. The African is designed only to serve, without a master it becomes violent and unruly. One need only look upon the Africans in the US to see this.
