What a beautiful and multi functional space. It holds so many facets of who you are as an individual. Very personalized for your height and functionality. Love how you incorporate light and plants.
I love your sewing studio it looks very cozy❤❤❤❤
Inspiring with such detailed goals. I love my coverstitch and I highly recommend "Master the coverstitch" by Johanna Lundström.
Join the party! This year's theme Playing with Fabric is sew much fun for sewists! www.eventcreate.com/e/nyc-frocktails-2024
Sorry, but the music is far too loud for me.
Thank you for sharing. I got lots of inspiration from this video.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
I pin cut patterns to hangers with paper on them that you get from the cleaners.
ooh that's an interesting idea! and definitely a problem I still have not solved more than one year later.
Subscribed! Loved seeing you and your lovely technicolor blazer suit at DC Frocktails! I love your take on make 9 and look forward to your execution of these goals!
Ooh thanks for subscribing! I have been trying to find EVERY opportunity to wear my blazer since DC Frocktails! Are you coming to NYC Frocktails next month?
That dress is amazing 💚mesmerizing pattern. Well done
Thank you! 😊
Off topic...does anyone know where I can buy the industrial strength clear grip adhesive that you find on the inside of non slip socks on the back of ankle? I'm not referring to the clear stretch ribbon used on necklines or to hand garments on hangers that you sew on. Fashion tape is temporary, i want to be able to wash but not dry garment. The kind at the fabric store needs to be seen on. Thanks.
Ooh that's an interesting question. I wouldn't even know where to begin!
@@StylesInSeams thanks for responding 🙂
I'd love to hear about your industrial sewing machine saga 😍 I'd love to get one myself!
Your dress needs a narrow shoulder adjustment. Hope you don't mind.
I can recommend Stokx patterns for bias garments. Beautifully drafted, excellent instructions. I have made one top and three bias dresses using Stokx patterns, and very happy with them. Grea thoughtfult video.
Oooh I've never heard of them before. I'll have to check them out. The Patternline is another great source for bias cut patterns.
How about up cycling fabric and using dead stock as much as possible? Taking a thrift store garment made of beautiful fabric and remaking it to suit yourself? I have found so many different fabric at thrift stores, it’s pretty cool. Linen sheets or curtains, full lengths of Pendleton wool for five bucks. Men’s dress shirts are usually made with better quality fabric and can be used for different projects. I get the larger sizes for more useful fabric, same thing with denim, lots of different and types. I made my granddaughter a sundress with white bell bottom jeans from one leg of material. Put tye dye godets in the bottom. So cute!
Yes, sewing more sustainably is a super worthy goal! I do try to use dead stock as much as possible, use every scrap of my remnants and upcycle what I can find. I just turned an old skirt into a top > instagram.com/p/C6hIJhUxFLa/ But I have sooo much fabric in my stash to get through (video coming soon) so my most sustainable choice is to stop buying altogether!
Definitely want to see the Juki saga! Can’t wait to see all your goals met. I’ve been sewing for 2 years but fear definitely stops me from MOST things, would love to pattern test for you 💜 push myself a little more
Aww you can do it! I honestly have fear creep in before I do almost every project (including posting this video!) With sewing, I find the best way around fear is to make something very familiar to me in a different way. So a pattern I've used before with a different fabric. Or, a fabric I'm comfortable with just one new technique. Little wins!
This is such a unique take on the Make 9 concept. I love how intentional your plans are. It was so good to see you at DC Frocktails!❤ My sister gave me her Juki cover stitch and I need to use it! I also took your following a pattern Skillshare class and I loved it!
Aww thanks! So happy to hear you loved my Skillshare!! Maybe I'll see you at NYC Frocktails next month?
@@StylesInSeams I wish. Lol. It’s crunch time at work.
I got my industrial sewing machine for $100 at Walmart of all places. My husband and I were checking out and the teller saw that I had a sewing magazine among my purchases and asked if we would be interested in buying his industrial machine and told us how much he wanted it, and then showed us a picture he had of it on his phone. We said yes right away. So the next day, he was not working, so we picked it up. He and my husband had to carry it down three flights of stairs. Luckily we only had only 3 steps to get into our house. Its pretty heavy. Its not new, but not really old either and is in mint condition. He gave us the attachments and a bunch of leather too. Its a Reliable. I have no idea whether its considered a good machine or a cheap one, but I'm happy with it. Especially since we werent even looking for one at a time. My husband just likes to buy me vintage sewing machines at auctions and things like that, because he gets them for next to nothing, so he couldnt resist. Its great for the bag making business i started up though.
$100?!? That's a crazy deal! I've never heard of a Reliable machine but if it's anything like my Juki those 3 flights of stairs must have been back breaking. Good luck with the bag making business!
@StylesInSeams it was $100 Canadian, too. So even less than that for American. My husband took the heavy end and is extremely strong, so it wasn't so bad for md or the other guy we bought it from.
@@sew_So_beautiful I got a fifteen year old Sailrite for 400 bucks with a walking foot. It’s lighter than a couple of the vintage Singers I have!
@@laurademarrais3248 I haven't heard of that kind before. I'll have to look it up.
Great video totally resonate with the physical goals I'd find myself putting off certain sewing patterns until I get to my goal body but I'm gonna just do what I like so what that a have a back roll I love a backless dress
Freedom for our back rolls!
I would love to hear all about your mood boards.
yes! I think I should make a video about my process. I'll definitely start showing my mood boards more here when I share projects.
I plan make 9, make it and then forget to post it. I love how you decided todo your make 9.
You see how I'm just posting this in August lol! But you're motivating me to do a recap video once the year is done :)
🌸🌸🌸🌸
ok, I'm back. I love that you are exploring more skin baring styles and I wholeheartedly support the goal of sewing a bias garment. You can do it!! Remember, you will be constrained by the width of your fabric so as long as you can almost spread your fabric out flat (I think your cutting table is pretty large, right?) you will be fine. I bet you will really love sewing bias garments! I am always interested in hearing more about your digital pattern drafting journey.
welcome back! i just made a backless dress and put a bias on my list! My table is only 42 inches wide so I suspect I might have to cut on the floor? But I think I'm going to start with making a bias cut top before I move on to a full dress. There are some small cuts of silk that need to be made into lovely tops before year's end!
It is always a good idea to start with a smaller version of what you want to get to .
Yay, a new post!!! and YES!!! Tell us all about that Juki industrial saga!! ;)
yesss this was in my premiere pro drafts since January! Juki saga coming up!
How are your 2024 sewing goals coming along? Happily, I can say I've been on top of these goals! Stay tuned for more!
Love that blouse can you share the fabric and pattern please
The fabric is ankara from a local shop. The pattern is the Anthea blouse by Anna Allen merged with the neckline and collar of the Friday Pattern Co Patina blouse.
I have been getting more and more into sewing, and I am obsessed with sewing studio tours. Thank you for sharing your beautiful space. I love that you kept it real, and I definitely understand your thought process! I too have plants throughout my own studio! It's definitely at the point where I need to sell some.
Oh, I've definitely bought and propogated more plants since I made this video. I have a problem lol
Where in ny are u?
Thanks for sharing your studio!
My pleasure!
Lol not Fyre Festival! 😂 You and your team do a great job!
చాలా చాలా బాగుంది 👌🥰👌
Hi, new subbie 👋
Pleas elet me know that there will be a NYC Frocktales in 2024 and that i did not miss it. Please let me know. PLEASE.
Yes! There will be! Check out nycfrocktails.com for more information.
@@StylesInSeams 🙂
There's an error in Line #9 of the calc (Tier 1 calculations). After I have changed it to my measurements, it turns red and goes to negative one (-1) for the number of nieces to cut with no length size. ???? Help!
Love your channel. I have 2 Featherweights. One is like brand new. Who ever had did not use it at all. Got a question tho. Why the heavy piano music in the background? Sometimes it is difficult to understand your words because of the music.
Robyn, I enjoyed your video sew much! I just heard about Frocktails a few hours ago and was looking around on the internet to see what it was all about. I came across your video and you gave me a huge insight to what is all about! I have a school for fashion sewing in NC and had an event I put on for 7 years, growing to 450 attendees in the last year, and yes I burnt myself out! Its been 5 years of rest from that now and oh my..you have inspired me to maybe do a Frocktails in NC. But first I can't wait to attend the NYC one. (Darn I will be in NYC mid May , but can come back in October!) I was checking out the Chicago one too. What a great idea this whole event is. I just loved how you put this video together and especially the photos of the talented party goers and really loved hearing your goals for the next events. Good luck with your ventures (let me know if I can help from NC) and I will be sure to support you on your membership!
Where can you buy it?
This pattern is available at simplicity.com
Hi there! Do you have only the first tier at the waist cut round? The rest are all straight pieces?
Yes, the first tier is a circle skirt and the lower tiers are cut as rectangles which are then gathered. It produces the circle effect with added volume.
The green dress is Amazing ❤❤❤❤
Disco
I love the shirt style it fits you perfectly ❤
I love your blouse
Love, love your sewing/office!
Yes! That whim.. I make the outfit I plan to wear and 2 days before, I’m changing my mind.. but having what you need when you want to sew definitely reduces the anxiety that can affect creating.
Thanks for explaining about the amount of ease in it! That’s great that we can use challis and other soft non-knits
You are so welcome! Everyone is going straight for stretch, but it's not required.
Wow. Your sewing room is organized!
I love all of the inspiration photos and fabrics. Great video! Tfs
Thanks so much!
Brava
I wish you would do a proper video of these patterns cause this goes far too fast 😢
ive just been learning how to sew from your skillshare classes. you are so good at teaching I'm really excited to start making my own clothes thanks to you. i loved this vlog i hope you more. thank you xx
