ANGLO-SAXON - NEW YORK WATCHES
Watch Time New York 2024 was upon us. It was time to gather the lads and head over to New York City for a week of chaos. Watch Time New York at Gotham Hall followed by Wind Up Watch Fair.
It was a week of laughs and giggles. Copious amounts of pizza and one too many Gin and Tonics.
Met up with a number of Wristwatch UA-camrs such as @TimWrite, @theoriginaloc, @TheWatchHangout, @TheWatchCommunity, @logan_hall_grill_streams and of course Red Shovel. Not to mention so many amazing people like Dodger, Tanzeel, Keslowitz, Corrado, Hof On Smash, Mathis, Diego M, Captain and way too many more for me to remember.
A visit to New York for a spot of tourism is always a good idea.

Hunting Ronda, Spain for SWEETS 🍭

The secret sweets of Ronda, Spain. Baked every morning by the Nuns at the convent of the Church in the main town. The Church is also a Convent and here you can buy sweets from the Nuns without actually seeing the Nuns. You have to speak through the wooden “Lazy Susan” and await the Nuns preparation of your order. You place your money, and the Nun places your order. The wooden lazy Susan spins a...

Hope you’re well Jamie! Sadly haven’t seen too much from you lately.
@@RichardT2112 Hi Richard - am very well and in good health. Recently purchased a Breguet Classique. I’m working hard and focussed on my work at the moment. Play time will come. Hope you are doing great
@ brilliant! Looking forward to seeing you in the next video! All the best to the Mrs!
It's incredible that this design is almost 100 years old
It is mate - and the odds are that the watch will still be loved in 100 years to come

So you could say its solar powered but not with light but with the warmth of the sun instead.
@@Jijhebtmijnnaamnietnodig indeed. Though not directly receiving sunlight, it is being wound from each Celsius change of temperature throughout the day and night. Quite remarkable
@jamieopulence i agree, wish i had a nice book Shelf for something like this or means to buy something like this.
If buying used, it pays to be patient for the right deal. I would only purchase from a reputable watch / clock shop who services them. Less than two months ago, I happened to find mine at such a business just a couple miles from my home. I paid $1,000 for a 1970's Atmos (time only) in great shape and serviced. It runs great at 540 deg amplitude.
Valuable advice. The key with Atmos is the history of it and servicing. They are delicate and that is ok when proper car and handling has ensued.
This is downright cool. And of course stunningly beautiful.

My first ‘real’ watch was a new JLC Reverso. Just a beautiful beautiful watch, badly let down by a cheap dial. This was @ 2000, so maybe things have changed. A real shame though. JLC keep shooting themselves in the foot. Look at where AP has climbed to versus ever pedestrian JLC over the last 10 years. They were equals, but now AP’s trade in the rarefied air of PP.
Love the whole thing about JLC and the Reverso. The pricing is getting a tad steep now and makes it difficult to justify buying any of them at retail. Regardless, lovely watch.
Did the guy have armed security himself?
He ended up in prison
It seems like such a poor ‘robbery’, it’s so obviously a set up…how did they think they were going to get away with it?
All went quiet in the end
Is it an insurance scam all along?
No idea
Why the HUGE reward when they know who did it? A quarter million $ reward for the return of the watches, sure, but just info when they have a photo???
🤣🤣🤣
CONGRATS Jamie, What a great piece, I want one too, but in the silver. Great choice.
@@simonkennedy5899 can’t go wrong with this silver one.
I’ve bought all my Atmos clocks second hand, but restored and serviced by an expert first. I’d rather two second hand clocks than one new one, but we’re thankfully all different, and to each their own.
I’d not have a clue where to start with restoration. Bought mine new and it hasn’t moved since being turned on 🤣
Wedding anniversary gift to your WIFE? Lucky, lucky girl….
Sometimes you’ve gotta disguise it as such in order to get it into the household 😂
Where did you get your B roll footage on how the dial is made? If that’s part of a wider video of a documentary somewhere, I’d love to see it.
It is - I actually got it from Patek themselves. They have a video about enamel somewhere
@ oh yeah, that sounds interesting. I’ve had a quick Google and search on YT and I can’t seem to find it. If you remember where it is and you can sent me a link I’d appreciate it!

"I'm an Anglo Saxon" --Jamie Opulence
Oh god!! Where do these lines come from. Love that line 🏴
As mentioned below, the thin wire doesn't drive the clock. the gas-filled bellows does. Inside the large cylinder on the back is a special sealed, concertina shaped canister. This canister is filled with a special gas, ethyl chloride, which expands and contracts at very subtle temperature changes of plus or minus a 1/4 degree or so. So as the bellows goes in and out, a gear train winds the mainspring. The thin wire acts as a torsion spring, allowing the rotor to spin in both directions for the duration of 30 seconds in each direction. The rotor hangs from the spring with no other physical contact within the clocks works save for a small contact with the pallet fork to move the minute hand, 30 seconds at a time. If you move it without capturing the rotor with the stop mechanism, don't sweat it. Unless you took it on a horse ride. But seriously, it is very delicate indeed. What kills them is when they get twisted by people who think that's how you wind it up. Yes, it has happened. And the clock hands must never be turned anti-clockwise. That can cause terrible issues with the pallet fork and related gears. However, once this clock is set up properly, on a dead-level and stable surface, occasional adjustments will be required due to seasonal time changes and basic stabilization duration. If you move the hands too far in advance, just move the locking lever in place when the balance has just completed its rightward turn. Then just wait whatever the difference of time is and pull the lever back to the run position.
Fascinating! Thank you ever so much for sharing the insights above. Greatly useful and informative
This is beyond cool. 😍

Wait wtf im confused your using leather conditioner on a coated canvas bag ??? That really doesn’t make sense does it ? Your nourishing a canvas bag with leather conditioner is this an April fools joke or something ? What you put polish on first then conditioner your definitely pullin our leg you used a conditioner to seal the bag not the polish ?

Monsieur Gonzo Jamie - It's now officially on my hunt list ATM - love the way the blue can turn purple - pure class -
You'll be very pleased my man. Had it for a good while now and it's a keeper.
Can anyone tell me where I can take it to get it serviced? In Houston area. Or what kind of place. I called around and some just have a dumb look on there face and some want to buy it from me. The other tell me so send it to JLC. I do t know how to ship something that fragile
Take it to your local JLC authorized dealer and they’ll be able to handle the shipping to JLC for servicing and repair
@@jamieopulence thank you. It’s hard to find real watch makers and clock makers
I just found one at a pawn shop for $200. Needs a good cleaning. And it’s in the locked position. Mine says the full name on dial and on movement along with 15 jewels. Why so some say the full name and some say “LeCouture” ?
In 1937 the patent for the Atmos clock was acquired and it was at that point Jaeger / LeCoultre merged. As far as cleaning etc - a local watchmaker to you might be able to assist or failing that, take it to JLC and have them handle the service.
@@jamieopulence ahh thank you
That watch is absolutely stunning. I just purchased the 24 model 41D. It’s arriving Monday. I’m so excited to wear it with a nice suit or jeans & t shirt. Some say it’s a little too much bling but I think it’s the most beautiful watch out there for the price. I have a Cartier Chronograph Roadster and I’m saddened to see it selling for way less than its retail value. Not that I would sell it as I love that watch, it’s a classic but I thought it would of held some value I also have the Breitling GMT Chronograph which is my go to watch as I got a big wrist. It’s feels and looks good. But I’m so happy to welcome this Bluesy to my collection. One day I would love an AP or PP or definitely the Daytona yellow gold with the green dial. Enjoy your watch, wear it in good health. Great video. Noel
Hey Noel - the overall feeling I got with the Bluesy is fun. Don’t take life too seriously - fun. Living the moment with a fun and super expressive watch. Great addition to your collection.
