      Thanks for the kind feedback. Adding a photo or not depends on the country you're in and the norms in that geography. For example in the UK and North America it's not advisable to add your photo. In other places, like some countries in Asia, it is more common place to include your photo

    Great video! 3 questions that threw me a bit off balance back when I was a 24 y/o applying for biotech the 1st time: 1. Describe yourself using only 3 words 2. Do you do any sports? 3. When was the last time you dressed in a costume for a party? Safe to say I wasn't expecting that, even though I did a lot of research prior to my 1st ever job interview. The main takeaway: hard skills are only 50%. The rest is soft: social skills, communication, etc. They evaluate really hard to what extent you can fit into a team/culture. If the attitude is right, specific skills needed on the job, can still be learned in house. Often they mention 'knowledge of x or y is a plus', but that doesn't give you the golden ticket. Someone could outrun you with their attitude, charisma, incentives or connections they have through networking... Oh, and I landed the job immediately! Now back in academia ('PhDetour', but going back to industry in a few years :)

    • @biomedbadass4064

      Question 3 is certainly a wildcard - intrigued by your answer for that one Biomeducated! Completely agree that demonstrating 'team fit' is a lot of the battle in interviews. I think there's 3 goals for leaving a memorable impression in interviews: 1. Be easy to talk to 2. Show you can do the job 3. Show you can fit in ...Score all 3 and you've a good chance of landing an offer.

    • @biomedbadass4064
      @biomedbadass4064 3 роки тому

      Thanks Natalia. Yes it's a tricky one - demonstrating commercially-relevant experience is a problem faced by anyone moving from the public to the private sector (not just academic folks). I think it helps to present your evidence in terms of deadlines, goals achieved, accountability, money saved, going above and beyond your contractual requirements, and developing innovations etc. This type of evidence coupled with the right attitude and convincing the employer that you enjoy your work, can go along way to help. Also using industry-relevant language and keeping academic jargon to a minimum reinforces that you understand the job and industry you're looking to move in to.
