Fuck, I remember when they announced that heavily political theme for what was then known as Dreadwolf. I remember rolling my eyes at the backlash and thinking "It's set in Tevinter, the most political place in the setting, why is this news? And Bioware's done reasonably well with diversity in recent times, so I doubt it's going to be too hamfisted--" And then Veilguard came out and I ended up with egg on my face. And like a person whose hand touched the hot stove, I am going to remember this when I next consider giving Bioware the benefit of the doubt.

And they don't give you an option to disagree with using snowflake pronouns or the whole gender subject in its entirety. They force the "TheyThem" stuff upon you and you can't even kick characters from your team. Srsly I never took Traash anywhere and only did her quest so I could score the perfect ending plus secret ending. Ita way too woke and overall just as terrible as the storytelling and conversation scripts. If you ignore those things the game is actually really good. It has woke elements but they are not a big part of the game, like 10-20 minutes of woke content, for a 100+ hours of gameplay. I do agree that the characters are in fact mostlyl ugly and that they have removed our ability for being anything other than "a nice guy" in the game. But the combat, skill progression, equipments, puzzles are INSANELY fun. You should try to look past those things, because there's a lot of cool stuff in the game.

Hell ya to origins man! That was my first console game!

Since its release we have to endure this kind of video. Ok. Some parts are completely woke. We get it. But so few talked about the real issues : dubious game design, awful gameplay, player actions with no impact, writing like it was made from a 12yo (outside the woke parts, i mean), no open world, soft reboot full of inconsistencies. Frankly, the woke parts might be really annoying, but boy, is it the LEAST of my concern when looking the big picture.

The funny part is that you can absolutely make a top tier AAA game and have it be representative of the trans or LBGTQ+ community. Your main character could be a purple unicorn who flies around shitting happiness and self identifies as a toaster. Nobody would care so long as the STORY is good. You can't just throw these characters in there to check some imaginary box. Forced characters always stick out like a sore thumb. IF you have this great character and have them being trans or gay or whatever else as a natural part of their development it works fine, it also shouldn't be their defining characteristic. A gay person's whole life isnt about being gay. They are a person with their own hopes and dreams and goals. Them being gay should just be on facet of an entire spectrum of things that make up that character. If you have this companion character for the entire game and you go through all sorts of crazy shit with them and survive and at the end of the story you come back home and get off the ship and the whole community is there and low and behold you see this character you've never seen before run up to that companion and give them a big ol sloppy kiss and they just so happen to be the same gender, I promise you if the character was well written and acted you're probably going to get a HAH out of the player and they will think nothing less of the companion because they were such a great character. Being part of the rainbow people isn't a way of life. Its simply a facet of their lives. If developers would start treating these characters like characters and stop over focusing on whats going on in their fucking pants they might just realize that its entirely possible to make a great game and still have the representation the modern world requires.

Supply and demand will eventually sort this out. If they keep making games that no one wants, they will not make money and eventually go out of business or fix themselves. New developers that do make good games will enter the market and succeed.

What a tragedy. Dragon age origins was and forever will be a masterpiece in my eyes. It was a product of love and labor, made by a dedicated team that cared about one thing and one thing only: making a game that's fun to play, has an engaging story and features unique characters. No one gate a f**k about politics or "gender identity", Bioware gave us bangers after bangers such as Baldur's gate ,Mass effect, Jade empire and many more, what went wrong?!?!
