    Thays a really cool set up. I really like the stiff tether. Like you mentioned on my video, two ropes is definitely the way to go. I'm not familiar with that drill, but if it's not brushless, keep an eye on it on long accents. They say brush motor drills can overheat with a long hard duty cycle.

    • @timbermen11
      @timbermen11 Місяць тому

      @@zaccheus the first drill I had was brushed and only made it 15ft. The Harbor Great drill is doing awesome so far. Like your buddies setup, I also started with the akimbo. The RR with the stuff teather seems to be the best setup. Taking a secondary climbing system also allows you to bail out if the Z2R malfunctions on the way up.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus Місяць тому

      @timbermen11 For sure, for sure. It is super important to always have a rope egress and this unit doesn't claim to be able to support that function so I think two ropes is probably the way to go. I'm going to try setting it uo that way next time around for sure.

    I'm thinking about getting one of these for my own tree climbing...my one major concern with your setup is that if the pulley shreds the rope then there's a good chance the rope will just slip right through the rope runner due to the way a damaged rope becomes more compressible. You've only got a few inches between the bottom of the rope runner and where the rope would fail.

    • @timbermen11
      @timbermen11 2 місяці тому

      @@outofmiryclay good point. I can’t really think of another way to back it up and it’s a lot of work too set up a secondary rope, so I’m just going to go with what I’m using and pray it keeps working. I’m more concerned about internal gears stripping and the Z2R failing mechanically rather than it chew a rope up and fail that way. Can you think of another way to back it up?

    • @outofmiryclay
      @outofmiryclay 2 місяці тому

      @@timbermen11 the only thing I can think would be to attach a hand ascender to your bridge with a webbing sling long enough so that the ascender grabs the ascension rope just above the rope runner. The toothed cam of an ascender will grab more securely and quicker if there is a failure. That being said, you are correct that it is very unlikely that the pulley will actually shred the rope under any kind of "normal" use...most likely the rope would start slipping or the gearing could malfunction. What I was thinking of doing is having a dedicated ascension line strictly for the pulley and then use my normal rope for my standard mechanical device. I was thinking I'd just pull both lines up the tree simultaneously with the same throw line and base tie them and then once I make it to the top I'd have the ground person undo the base tie on the ascension line and lower that whole system down. Wouldn't really take more time to set up...and I think you already said you'd be bring a second rope up with you anyway.

    • @timbermen11
      @timbermen11 2 місяці тому

      @@outofmiryclay good idea with the hand ascender teeth. It would likely still grab if it was above the RR. I tried the 2 separate ropes and it’s difficult to work the drill with one hand and tend slack on a climbing system with the other hand

  • @keithburkhead9559
    @keithburkhead9559 2 місяці тому

    I’m using the same setup the drill your using I don’t think is brushless. I’m had good luck with Ridged makes a brushless and Flex also. I’m using the ascender on 10mm line. I’m an akimbo on the second climb line. I never remove the ascender from 10mm rope just leave it hanging so can come and use. The 10mm line is connect climb line by prusik midline pulled up setting the climb line. When finished just lower both lines drown ascender attach. It’s a leaning curve for sure good luck.
