Backpacking Mt Timpanogos
Переглядів 1263 роки тому
This is just a video of my friend and I doing a one night backpacking trip to Mount Timpanogos. Be ready to adjust the volume between video and photos as the music levels change and I haven’t been able to figure out how to manage that. Beautiful views await those willing to suffer through the long steep grades. And the waterfall feature near the start of the trail is gorgeous! Almost worth a tr...

Blood Type Determination
Переглядів 1784 роки тому
In this video we determined my blood type in our physiology lab, by mixing samples of my blood with antibodies for the common A,B, and O antigens. We also tested for Rh factor and the results of each were negative. A positive result would be observed as damaged misshapen RBCs. Each of these slides were observed at 1000x magnification.

Red Blood Cells in Hypertonic Solution of 2% NaCl
Переглядів 2,7 тис.4 роки тому
Heres a quick video of a lab experiment we did in Physiology. Simple diffusion occurs when solutes move across a semi-permeable membrane from a high to low concentration gradient. In this example, red blood cells were placed in a 2% solution of NaCl (Sodium Chloride or table salt.) The higher concentration of solutes in the surrounding fluid caused water to flow across the cell membrane, leavin...
Epithelial Cheek Cells

How to Make Bar Soap (Cold Process)
Переглядів 8125 років тому
In this video, I show you how to make bar soap using the cold process. This is an updated version of the previous video I posted showing how it lathers up. This was the first attempt with the formula I used and it worked great. The only thing I'd change is adding more fragrance. I wasn't sure how much I would need but the next batch I make, I'll double or triple the amount I used.
Melting Point Apparatus Improved Quality

I've been wanting a melting point apparatus for a while now so when I start to seriously synthesize chemicals, I can get a general idea of their purity. I won't have the funds for older NMR or IR spectrometers so the basics like melting point will have to do for now. After finding a few on eBay, I took to youtube to see whether there were any reviews. The particular one he uses in the video is ...

This is a review/test of the SH-2 hot plate magnetic stirrer. I purchased this for $51.80 on eBay with shipping included. This is because these companies have no quality control departments anymore! They just thrive on greed and quantity and never quality! So sad as we are not made of money, and some of us literally sacrifice certain basic needs to get our chemistry equipment and we wait impatiently for them to get to us only to find that either the goods we waited for are malfunctioning, glassware broken do to their shipping department not giving a shit and just packing the 2 500 ml flasks in a bag and shipping it ( happened to me so many times! ) the days of getting decent equipment at a reasonable price are all but over! Now we have to spend a lot more money and even then keep fingers crossed that everything is ok! I feel all you fellow amateur and students who are strapped for cash, pain!!!😢 take care my brothers! Keep the faith!

Warming is not necessary Yeast also need nutrients, but most brewing yeast sachets include this. It's good enough for 4 gallons. You dont need 21 days, more like 2 days. If it takes longer, its too cold or you've done something else wrong.

An important discussion would have involved the history of where climate change theory originates. BP created the term “carbon footprint” in a marketing stunt after the biggest oil spill in modern history to direct the attention off them and shame all of us instead. It worked. Carbon is NOT responsible for “climate change”. This is such rubbish. The truth is, the so-called smart humans know very very very little about anything, especially the climate and the mind-blowing abundance of connections & complexities in it. Yet because we understand & know a few things, we believe we know it all and how to “fix” it. Total insanity. Meanwhile, the ultra rich like the Rockefellers & Rothschilds (who were the actual ones responsible for the Industrial Revolution) - who don’t care at all about the planet - are using faux science/education to further their selfish & psychotic goals: total control over all the wealth in the world. Just look at the 2030 agenda. You can trace it all back to Cecil Rhodes…. An ev!l, communist PDF file with a genius ideology & plan to take over the world, literally. The creeps who worshipped him, now own all the central banks, big education, big media, big entertainment, big pharma, big agriculture… they own nearly everything. We need to prepare for CBDCs/digital currency system. It’s coming, and it will trap anyone who isn’t paying attention

hello, doesn't heating the solution before adding the yeasts help with the reaction, as we need the yeasts to perform anaerobic respiration ?

    • @2gr_t95
      @2gr_t95 2 роки тому

@@joshwilson9393 let me explain here : by heating beforehand the water, there's less O2 dissolved in the water so, if the yeast is already activated, by heating water and letting it cool down (with no contact with the outside air) and then add the yeast, i think you can shorten your reaction time as the yeast will only need to perform the synthesis of ethanol, and not "eat" all the O2 in the water and the jar

I dont think that is the reason why first booling a highly concentrated sucrose solution speeds up fermentation. There are 2 benefits to first boiling a saturated sucrose syrup solution prior to dilution and addition of yeast. 1. It sterilizes the sugar so yeast will not compete with bacteria while fermenting). 2. Yeast has a strong preference for glucose over fructose as a substrate. By boiling for an extended period (particularly if the solution is firstly slightly acidified e.g with citric acid) hydrolysis of sucrose into glucose and fructose monomers occurs. This greatly speads up the rate of fermentation since the yeast can directly metabolize the glucose preferentially. There will still be a significant quantity of fructose in solution by the time ethanol concentrations rises to a level toxic to the yeast itself. If the end goal is ethanol production this saves a lot of time. It's true that fermentation requires an anaerobic environment (otherwise you get lactic acid instead of ethanol, the amount of 02 in the water is negligible if fermentation occurs under an air lock and is consumed very rapidly very early on. So this factor can be safely ignored without any noticeable effect on yield.

I wouldn't try it, I'm uncertain what tests there are to ensure there is no methanol present and you wouldn't want to go blind or get brain damage from drinking this if it had any in there. I'm sure there is some way for people who distill drinkable alcohol to check for this though.
