TOUDI SAKUGAWA "FATHER OF THE CHINESE HAND" SOKON MATSUMURA'S SENSEI
THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT ABOUT TOUDI SAKUGAWA A.K.A TODE SAKUGAWA, KANGA SAKUGAWA AND SATUNUSHI SAKUGAWA.
HE WAS THE SENSEI FOR SOKON MATSUMURA WHO WAS THE SENSEI FOR ANKO ITOSU WHO LATER TURNED THE "TE" INTO KARATE AS ANKO ITOSU INTRODUCED IT TO THE OKINAWAN SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN 1901 AND HIS STUDENT GICHIN FUNAKOSHI HELPED TO SPREAD IT TO MAINLAND JAPAN IN THE 1920'S.
TODI SAKUGAWA WAS HIS NAME GIVEN TO HIM FROM HIS SENSEI WHO'S NAME WAS TAKAHARA WHO HAD ALSO STUDIED MARTIAL ARTS IN CHINA ALONG WITH KUSANKU. WITHOUT THESE LEGENDS ITS UNLIKELY THAT WE WOULD EVEN HAVE KARATE TODAY.
PLEASE ENJOY AND ALOHAS~

I know he gets a lot of flak for dumbing down the techniques to make it public friendly, but the end result is that instead of being a backwater martial art that no one knows about, it’s a world wide way of life that literally millions of people of all the skin colors can share together. For example, I don’t speak a word of Portuguese, but I can go to Brazil tomorrow and train at a dojo there because of the usage of Japanese terminology and the fact that Funokoshi spread karate to the entire world. So yeah, the loss of all the dirty fighting techniques in the forms are worth the result. And also, it’s not a total loss because of the Westerners using reverse engineering on finding out the original techniques.
