I have been building WordPress websites since 2018 and I have A LOT of opinions to share about running a web design business and digital marketing overall.
I feel that the WordPress community (and the web development industry as a whole) is becoming exceedingly fragmented and unstable. There are a few voices of reason but certainly not enough. On this channel, I aim to add to the conversation by sharing what I've learned in my agency thus far.
I "Learn, Try, and Share" everything in my life. This channel's purpose is to document my journey and educate other web designers and business owners. I would be honored to have your subscription. If you do, expect nothing but honest and authentic digital business development and technical content.

Hi, does Bentonow have email client apps for all OSs like Zoho? I think I'm confused, Bentonow is not the actual mail server like Zoho or Google Workstation...etc 🤔
Bento is an email marketing platform, not a domain email provider. So, if you were comparing to other similar products, Bento is like MailChimp or constant contact or convertkit You don't use Bento if you need an email address. You use Bento if you want to send marketing emails.
Great stuff. Thank you for teaching it!
Absolutely, thank you for watching!
Funny. This was literally the first piece of functionality I built into a client site when I switched to Bricks. I created it so they can turn it on or off with a switch, OR put an end date as a backup because they get busy and can't get back to it. I'm writing this before I even finish watching your intro.
Yea, it's not a crazy complex concept but hopefully it'll show some people the possibilities
Thank you! Can you also show an example of MetaBox? The function is also possible, but I have not yet understood it correctly.
I've actually never used Metabox but I'll take a look at it!
🔥
My man 🙌
💪🏼💪🏼 needed this one!
Thanks for watching!!
A great townhall guys and really enjoyed listening to Adam. Surecart looks brilliant and plan on trying it in the next couple of weeks. 1 thing I would like to know is if there are any plans to allow nested collections? For instance, If I had a T-Shirt collection, I could then have Casual, Polo, Formal collections within the T-Shirt collection. That would be the final feature for me that would make me completely switch 😄
Appreciate it! And yea on their feature request page it says nested collections are "Done" but I'm not seeing a way to do it yet. I'll ask the team.
@markjszymanski - yeah I saw the same Mark. Many thanks for looking in to it, really appreciate it 👍👍
Brilliant video, lack of tutorials like this about WordPress lately, keep it up

You send me money so that i host my own website.

Maybe after a few more episodes we can get some fresh cover art hahaha
Hi brother, great video, keep creating. Would you like to use video editor and creative thumbnail? I can help you with that.
I appreciate it! I'm good right now, but I'll keep you in mind.
@@markjszymanski Sure brother. Thanks for your reply. Hope you would remember me. Keep creating content.
So cool to see this work! The video rendering instead of the url at the end is the default behaviour of the rich text element, so if I simply paste a UA-cam URL in there it will also show the video player. Just use the basic text element for the url.
Interesting, good to know. Thanks!!
Thank you all! What a fantastic town hall! Remember, I have known Adam since he had only about 5000 UA-cam followers :)
Thanks David!!
@@markjszymanski Surecart is one of the most exciting things on the Interwebs! Seriously talented devs on that team!
If you want to go deeper down this rabbit hole, there is something promising: Cursor AI. Especially now that they have just announced they are including SuperMaven. It's really a nice development environment. I've been using it for the last two months, and I am not switching back to VSCode anytime soon.
Yea, Matt Medeiros and I were talking about Cursor yesterday. I definitely need to give it a try.
Loved hearing Adam on the Town Hall in this guest format. I've been watching his content for a while, and it's inspiring to see how he's become such a big name in the WordPress community. Although he wasn't one of the very first influencers, he's built a solid reputation and earned his place as a top-tier figure. It’s awesome to see him settle in with Sure, not only as a promoter, but as someone deeply involved in the product side and him actually growing with his team. This Town Hall was a great spotlight on his drive, humbleness, and dedication. Thanks for having him on!
Hell yea, thanks for listening Max 🙌
I've been avoiding learning this for a while now, but watching these videos has given me more confidence in my abity to do it - at last. Very clear and consice. I like your style Mark. Just invested in ACF
LET'S GOOO!!! Hell yea, brother!! I'm so excited for you! 💪💪💪
@@markjszymanski I have a Tarot website Mark, with about 100 pages. Will there be a down side, Google wise, If I delete a lot of pages and rebuild it with dynamic data as per your tutorials?
Great question. My answer would be yes, but 1, how much does it matter and 2, you can mitigate it. I'll explain. It will affect indexing in Google, presumably because you'd be changing URLs from something like domain.com/reading-title to domain.com/readings/reading-title. How much will it matter?: I say this because, in reality, how much traffic is the site getting? You should still mitigate it, but I just wouldn't lose sleep over it unless your getting an absence amount of traffic from Google. - regardless of what you do, as long as your site is indexed, Google will recrawl and figure it out. How to mitigate it - If not already, look into and set up Google Search Console. It'll give you an idea of how Google is indexing your site and your impressions/traffic in search. You should also have an SEO plugin on your site, I use RankMath free. When you make this URL change, you're going to need "tell" Google the pages "moved". I don't have a video on that currently, but here is an answer that Claude gave me: ------------ To handle URL changes for multiple pages while maintaining SEO value, you'll want to implement 301 redirects from the old URLs to the new ones. Here's the step-by-step process: 1. First, document all your current URLs and their corresponding new URLs that will be created with the custom post type. 2. In WordPress, you can implement the 301 redirects in several ways: -Using Rank Math's built-in redirection manager -Adding them to your .htaccess file -Using WordPress's functions.php file The simplest approach is using Rank Math's redirection tool: 1. Go to Rank Math → Redirections in your WordPress dashboard 2. Click "Add New" 3. Add your old URL in the "Source URL" field 4. Add your new custom post type URL in the "Destination URL" field 5. Select "301 Permanent Move" as the redirection type 6. Save the redirect To make this process easier if you have many URLs, you can: 1. Export your current URLs from Rank Math 2. Create a spreadsheet matching old URLs to new URLs 3. Import the redirects back into Rank Math Additionally, you should: -Submit your new sitemap to Google Search Console after creating the custom post type -Consider temporarily increasing your crawl rate in Google Search Console to help Google discover the changes faster -Monitor your Search Console for any 404 errors that might indicate missed redirects Would you like me to provide more specific details about any of these steps? ----------- Given all this, what I would do: 1. Learn and create the CPTs, so you have duplicate content essentially 2. Export a list of all the pages that will be deleted 3. Delete/draft the pages 4. Set up redirects to redirect all the old pages to the new URLs 5. Resubmit your sitemap to Google, again this will happen automatically anyway Here's a good vid specifically for RankMath: ua-cam.com/video/yxmbcES_5CA/v-deo.html
@@markjszymanski Wow. I never expected that reply. I will go off to study this more. Time for me to stop being a chump. Glad I discovered you mark. Many Thanks
Really useful vid Mark.
Thank you for watching! I should probably make an update video on this to be honest. Lots of improvements to SC!
So like dokan?
Maybe? Not sure if that's the vision
@markjszymanski be cool if they did a multi vendor like dokan with surecart.
@markjszymanski be cool if they surecart did what they did for multi vendor
Yea that would be a cool feature for sure
I agree. The way ACF, and some other alternatives, implement the relationships scenario is a bit buried in the interface. In Toolset there is a dedicated wizard to set up relationships for one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many. As such it's generally the same results in the end but just a bit neater overall.
Yup, that Toolset implementation sounds similar to the JetEngine way. I've seen many people get confused by the ACF approach. Hopefully this video helps them!
Excellent job. I tried to do this a while back and ran into a problem and didn’t get back to it. And yes it was the fact I didn’t have the second field set as bidirectional. I just assumed Acf pro would assume when I link two fields it would read my mind.
Hell yea!! Glad it helped!
Well done, Mark! Great info and pro editing. Glad I watched this and learned something.
The man in the hat! You are too kind my dear friend! 🙌🙌
Nice! You did a great job at explaining Bidirectional Relationships. Doing the live example helped a lot!
High praise coming from you 2 GOATs! I appreciate it!! 🙌🙌🙌
I'm a chump using Bluehost because I love my wife more than I have knowledge of email.
Hahaha if it works, it works my man
@ unfortunately it does not but I am reaching out to the Inner Circle to find out why…
Hello from New York City! What can be done to make it less likely that marketing emails are not labeled as spam? Do you have any best practices? Thank you for your informative video.
I could expand on some of these, but Claude gave me this concise list. They all have an impact on your sender and domain reputation. - Missing authentication - Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records - Spammy words in subject lines - Avoid terms like "Free", "Act Now", "Limited Time" - Poor text-to-image ratio - Keep text content at least 60% of email - Purchased email lists - Only send to people who opted in - High bounce rates - Remove invalid addresses immediately - No physical address - Include your business location in footer - Missing unsubscribe link - Always provide clear opt-out option - Sudden volume spikes - Maintain consistent sending patterns - Poor sender reputation - Warm up new IP addresses gradually - Low engagement rates - Remove inactive subscribers periodically
Funny, I was just thinking about how I could go about doing something like this with proposals on the website. My only concern would be turning this into a PDF in case they want to have a copy. Do you have any ideas on how to implement something like that?
Yea, I hear you there. 2 thoughts I've had so far: 1, keep the url always live even after the proposal is approved and add the link to it in the confirmation email - not perfect but wouldn't hurt 2, An Save as PDF button - I had Claude make one (there are plugins in the repo that would do it too), it works, but it's really just print to PDF via the browser.
I watched the Tech Crunch interview. Matt looked like he was running with the hare and hunting with the hounds and in the process failing miserably in his attempts to emulate the big tech bro arogance. It just doesn't work for him. Apparently Larry Ellison takes the heads down approach without the contreversy. Maybe Matt should try that. As it is it's not serving the best interest of the platform which is neither fish nor fowl at the moment. One wonders at the narrowness of the blogging mentality and the expansion of the Automattic portfolio to the detriment of making something that can potentially function like a proper modern day tool for building serious websites. I think the veneer is falling off in front of the WP community. Matt needs to stand back and take stock of what's important and let other lead for a while… how about yourself and Kevin? The Townhall gig is much appreciated. Last question, what exactly are people being blocked from? As an adendum, we are living through very divisive times. I wish we could go back to the 90's.
Yea I agree with a lot of that. The community damage is pretty severe. Hopefully it can recover. Happy to hear you're liking WP Townhall! As for the blocking, people have been blocked on X by Matt's account and by the official WP account. People have also been banned from the WP make slack and Post Status I believe.
I wonder if their number is higher because they're including sites on Flywheel and other WPE-owned hosts and builtwith might only be putting "pure" WPE hosted sites on their list?
Very well could be yea
All this is making me considering replacing Pocket Casts (also somewhat recently acquired by Automattic)
Yea, I use UA-cam Music, but it could be better. Lots of good ones out there.
How is that CSV list of WPE sites not breaking privacy laws? Hope some people start a class action lawsuit, Mullenweg is just becoming a movie bad guy
Yea, I'm not a lawyer, but that seems like it's in the real of privacy issues
Wow that WPE Tracker...I'm not a WPE client, but I would now host with them before I ever host with WPcom or Pressable. Thanks Matt for showing your real colors 🚿
Definitely a wild move haha
Hi what is the summary ?
I don't use NitroPack anymore, but it helped when I used Elementor
Matt probably made that crap tweet on WP's Twitter, so afterwards he can claim "see the community is behind me, see what WordPress twitter wrote" 😂
Haha my guess would be it was him, not sure though
I'll be happy to sell mine LTD ACF PRO & WPML - I already did a move to force my clients to buy the license on their own.
Are you allowed to do that?
@@markjszymanski To be clear: New clients. I've only two that are covered by deal. I almost never gave the "in price" ACF so my clients have their own licenses. That's why I believe to keep this LTD License doesn't make any sense for me.
That was good. Ive got 2 clients about to buy the SC LTD
Hell yea 👍👍
CommandUI launch discount for Agency plan is only 20%. The normal price will be the same as Bricks for unlimited sites, so it's more expensive than Bricks? How much more features and development will this plugin get? Doesn't seem proportional imo, if the Agency price was LTD, I would have taken it, now it feels like yet another subscription that I don't really need.
I was given the yearly price, no LTD option
Yea I did not see an LTD. I don't believe Calvin is doing one, could be wrong, though.
Command UI! Early access is $225AUD per year (Im in the top 50 on the waitlist), and everyone else is $375AUD per year. The pricing and the model is utter madness especially for those that are helping fund this project at the ground level. Oh, and the dev has made it clear they will be increasing the price post-launch (on the lowest tier you are locked in at a 38% discount while agency has a price lock so expect to have price increases in excess of this). I don't think this is worth it so I would recommend to AVOID. Also the developer seems to be a little dodgy with their sales numbers. Their sales numbers upon instant release were showing 102/200 availability for early access licenses....its been 8 hours and not a single sale.... this is really dishonest and overall greedy. Agency $249 per year 150 sites - you can add more during checkout*¹ - FAQ Lifetime rate lock-in*¹ No device & user limits Use on client & your own sites Instant Access Priority Support White-labeling* Composer Access* Freelancer $149 per year 50 sites 33% Lifetime discount*² No device & user limits Use on client & your own sites Instant Access Basic Support Site Owner $79 per year 5 sites 38% Lifetime discount*² No device & user limits Use on your own sites Instant Access Basic Support
Yea there’s just no way you’re gonna get 11 cents of value per site per month on the agency plan. I can’t believe Calvin would charge for this!
Dude, most people aren't an agency with 150 clients! I'm a freelancer with 5 clients and not all of them even want this. So each client is costing a minimum of $50 per year. Not worth it. Oh, should I get the freelancer license? Well, all my clients like whitelabeled plugins so agency is my only option. Oh, this is just for me... Well I think I'd rather buy one license and uninstall reinstall for each primary client I work on. Still too expensive. I'll wait for GPL and clean the php and database. I want to pay the developer. But this is just ridiculous and I'm saying no.
@@jzea5605 no man I’m totally agreeing with you. On the bottom tier that’s somehow asking me to sell $1.32 of value per site per month. Not to mention if I don’t have 5 sites then how am I gonna find 4 more people to sell this to?! The developer just isn’t thinking of the little guy.
Hey, Mark, I was just wondering how you get the tiny separators marked "plugins" or "post types" in your UI. Is that a JetEngine feature?
Indeed it is! I quite enjoy it.
@@markjszymanski Yeah, great feature! I'm now thinking of hacking something similar in the admin UI using CSS.
Yes WP is for old people only!!! Young pups feck off and get yer own CMS😮 Nice bit of work on the date time set up for next podcast. Did something similar for a classical music events organisation so that once one concert takes place the next appears in the homepage hero. Was looking at Pods today. A lot can potentially achieved in combination with Bricks. I just need to crack relationships in the query loop. Like Toolset, which I currently use, this side of things isn’t fully supported so you need to roll up the query yourself in the Bricks php query editor. When it works it works quite well. Looking over the feature set of Pods, it’s not bad considering it’s free. I like the way if you have a relationship set up between two post types you can create the child/parent of the current post instance via a pop-up overlay of the editor of that new child/parent. It’s all very simple and intuitive… dare I say a bit Etchy.
Hello Mark! Are you done with this series? :( I've seen it all and Im almost finished with my portal! Im wondering if by any chance you will continue it or I've got to solve rest of it myself. What I'd love to see is some kind of support ticket system and how you handle this affilate option from dashboard and many more for sure :p
Appreciate you watching! I'll make a note to explore those in future videos. For the support ticket system, you might want to check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/E2zfYqinqFQ/v-deo.htmlsi=PkLFQPwcF96LALOM
what if I have different data for every customer like showing data.
Give me a specific example and I can try to make a tutorial on it
@@markjszymanski sample if I have customer 1 and I put table on them like a graph or summary of the website SEO ranking Then on customer 2 I will put the same but the figures and ranking change is that possible?
Definitely possible, but the solution would vary depending on what analytics tools you are using. In that example, are you using a specific analytics tool or are you just tracking that information manually?
How do you manage to have the "post_type" parameter? In the Jetsearch defaults I cannot seems to find it.
Are you using the Ajax search in Crocblock's JetSearch?
I'm feel'n this
Appreciate it, brother!
@@markjszymanski When I started watching this video I looked forward to seeing you learn how to use FSE (Full site editor) to accomplish the desired outcome. I must say after watching for over two hours only to see you throw in the towel was really disappointing. I will say that watching this made me realize that one should really consider checking out the training offered by Wordpress Learning followed by some select WP Minute videos before attempting something like this. I'm a huge fan of what you and Kevin are doing. Thank you for brining real talk to this space.
