I like this part of the story because of how done everything feels. The Martians aren't maintaining their hold over their new territory, and mankind just accepts that this is it. This is what our race has been leading up to. Everyone's just so sick of the fighting, as it just leads to ruin on both sides. I like to think that in times like this, people begin to wonder if their initial motives are worth anything now with the heavy price paid. I weirdly feel at peace with this part. I like to think on some level I'll be listening to this on a really life-changing, bad day.

Initially, I first heard this when I was watching War of the Servers, where the protagonist was seeing a battle raging in the distance with silhouettes of the mingepods being highlighted by artillery shells. The track always struck me to think about the passing of time and the past getting more and more distant.

Then all of a sudden, like two weeks later, a dude in full exoskeleton appears out of nowhere, rips out his mask to let Sid recognize him, throws a grenade, and disappears.
