It didn't work because he wasn't operating the machine correctly. Also you have to know what type of wire to put into the machine. The small ones would probably be better sold as is. I would suggest that you read your owner's manual before you use the machine and you can also look it up on UA-cam to see how to do it the correct way. Hey man, the "rake" is the dethatcher. The "blades" is the scarifier. If you don't want it to be so aggressive and tear out so much green grass, don't use it on the lowest setting. Raise it up.

Thanks for showing us how it's assembled. This is the Generation 1 model: 14-inch width, height lever on the right. Gen. 2 (2023) has a 15-inch width, a brushless motor, and a lever on the left. But replacement parts are more readily available for Gen. 1.
