SRT Mil Spec or Not (Original 2020 version with Updates)
Intro music: "Pyscho" by Alex Besss License code: 6UV2EHETHCNHFHTE
Exit Music: "Pursuit" by Abbynoise License code: 8ADCQQMWKKC9PMR6
Originally recorded in 2020 for my "Seniortac" channel, the question from a follower of the channel asked if his AR15 was Mil-spec!
I explain in plain language the differences between Mil-spec and Commercially available AR15s.
The difference some may be subtle, but there are MAJOR differences between the two!
COLT Manufacturing had to jump through many many hoops to meet the requirements the government required. And finally prevailed!
The end result made it beneficial to the civilian market, but time has led to many companies failing to meet the minimum requirements on so many different components that are available now. The biggest complain and issue I personally deal with on a regular basis is the lack of SERIOUS QUALITY CONTROL!
Hopefully all the manufacturers will take note of the negative light that shines on their inadequacies in the QC department and correct the issues!
Many companies / manufacturers are making great strides to correct this, but it will take time!
Enjoy the video!

Today's video is a tag on or addition to a video that Mr. Chad @ School of the American Rifle did about a week ago. His video titled: KAK Milspec BCG -Abbreviated Autopsy 1/ 2 ( ua-cam.com/video/OGyK6T5b2a8/v-deo.html ) discusses potential issues with the AR15 Ejector and what to look out for! SRT M4A1 Mimic Clone: Personal rifle
Переглядів 277Місяць тому
Hello Everyone! So this is my personal M4A1 build, actually a mimic / clone of an actual M4A1 by COLT / FN. With every custom and personal rifle I build, I look for components that are TDP spec, and this one is no different! This rifle features a 14.5" SOCOM profile barrel, not chrome lined, but is 4150 CMV and phosphate coated. It does have the "cuts" to mount a grenade launcher. I just need t...

Per an email, this video got made!!! Here's my personal 11.5" CQBR rifle that I built for myself nearly 3 years ago! I keep saying 2 years in the video but after looking back at orders, I found out really when I got all the components! Some would call this a "Frankenstein" build, I call it a T&E build due to it's application! Call it whatever you want, but this rifle RUNS VERY WELL, and has ZER...

Pretend for a few minutes, that we are sitting at a table, and you ask me questions....and I answer them!! Novel concept huh!! Per the title, the question is, " Is my PSA AR15 just as good as a Knights Armament company / KAC SR15?" Wow! What a question! Watch the video for my re...

COLT SPORTER HBAR Lower receiver Inspection
Переглядів 448 місяців тому
This video is an inspection / informational video regarding a COLT SPORTER HBAR lower receiver, I also showcase the BCG aka Bolt Carrier Group of this unique AR15! This is a COLT, but, there are significant differences of this rifle as compared to a more contemporary AR15 platform rifle. COLT went to great lengths during the "post ban" era rifles to completely eliminate any possible modificatio...
Spikes Tactical Lower Receiver Inspection

Todays video is an inspection of a Spikes Tactical Lower Receiver, in comparison to the TDP! I did not remove the buffer tube assembly due to the excellent staking job. I also could not confirm the bore for the Takedown pin spring and detent, or the Buffer Retainer. But as you'll see everything else was to TDP spec, maybe .0001 smaller in some cases which over time and usage those dimensions wi...
AR15 Components Potential Wear Schedule

Hey Guys and Gals! Here's a list of the majority of the components in your AR15 that will eventually need to be replaced! The list is not in any specific order. Shooting schedule, how many rounds and how often. 3. Ammuni...
Brownell's BRN-16A1Lower Receiver VS the TDP!!!

And.....another video today! This is my Mk18 Mod 0 "clone" lower receiver that I'm comparing to the TDP! This lower receiver comes from Brownell's. The design in conjunction with Nodak Spud of a M16A1 "retro" look utilizing the same exterior design as the originals. It's my understanding that all the machining was done by Aero Precision. Regardless I'm putting this lower up against the M16A1 TD...

I'm stoked on my Crusader lower! Can't wait to finish the build!
I bought a military contract overrun surplus FN A4 M16 upper and put it on an FN M16 Military Classic lower. It came complete with the Knights rail and the BCG. I call it my FN Military Classic +. Except for the lower not being full auto it is Mil Spec. Another way to get actual Mil Spec is by buying a military surplus parts kit. Unfortunately the barrel and the lower receiver are cut into pieces but you do get all the small parts.
“Mil-spec” isn’t always a good thing. Just look at the junk the US military bought from Sig. The M17/18 has problems
I don't watch Garand thumb much, so I must have missed the drama. Using a empty primed case, you can measure the before and after it is fired using a gauge.. I have never used a Tubbs action spring..So you are running a full length rifle action spring with a carbine buffer?? I just want to be clear about this..
Thanks for the video. Interesting topic and some useful information you've given out. Nice picture of the Lancaster WW2 bomber on the wall behind you. At least, I think that's the Lancaster that was flown by the Brits? I'm a fan of the bombers of the WW2 era, as My dad flew in the B-17, then in the B-26 Marauder in WW2 and Korea as a Bombardier and navigator. I have some nice pictures of a couple of his planes from that era, The Missouri Mule 2 in particular. What was the rifle you were holding, a Colt A2 carbine? I love the carry handles, especially the A1s and A2s. Thanks again and have a great evening!
Thank you Sir! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, please check out my other ones too! That's an interesting picture that was given to me by a good family friend some years ago. The plane is actually a B25 Mitchell ( same last name as me LOL), flying by Mt. Vesuvius in Italy. I recently donated that print to the Confederate Air Force located here in Mesa Az. The rifle in question is actually a older Bushmaster, that I sold right after the original video came out in 2020. I'm with you I have a love vs hate thing for the A1 and A2 rifles, I love them, but I hate that I don't own more! Thanks again!
Great info! Thanks SRT.
Have you tested the Luth-AR barrel chamber with a function gauge? I have never used or seen one on my bench. I have ring gauges to find the bolt tail O.D. size to find the tolerance between the carrier bolt tail I.D. bore to the bolt tail O.D. I prefer to find the tolerance between them rather than just the carrier bore size using a pin gauge..Many bolts have over sized bolt tail O.D. that will compensate for over sized carrier bores. I will also shine a light inside the carrier with a proper pin gauge to see how oblong the carrier bolt tail is. I also check the hammer spring strength (ignition energy) on high round count rifles using a depth micrometer. I like your idea of marking the barrel's gas port size on the barrel. I really enjoy watching how other armorers do inspections. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Buddy! Once upon a time and land far away I had access to every tool and gauge imaginable! I don't have "uncle Sam monies for all the toys!!! LOL I have not checked it with the "function gauges". I currently do not own any (yet!). I do have access to these, but didn't want to drive 45 minutes to use them! I use a digital caliper gauge to check the tail, and double check with a micrometer for confirmation. (Ring gauges on the want list as well!) I also use a LED light inside as well!! I sometime will "paint" the respective pin gauge to see if there is any specific area that binds when inserting the appropriate pin. Part 2 is coming up and I do discuss the hammer spring! Thanks for watching! p.s. did you enjoy the ending credits??? LOL
@@seniortac4175 I understand budgets and my ring gauges were pricey lol. I consider function gauges mandatory for barrel inspections..Well worth the money IMO. I have found quite a few out of spec chambers with them. I had mine custom made with longer handles so I can inspect barrels already installed through the back of the upper receiver without the hassle of using a short or no handle function gauge. Looking forward to part 2 and yes, I did enjoy the credits :)

I wonder why you went with a non CL barrel, with a Stormy Daniels sized GPD? Isn't .0625/.063 per TDP? I wish you could still get the Remington Defense Socom barrels. They were cheap. The two examples I had were not as accurate as the two Colt ones I have now. But were accurate enough. I'm not a Clone/Mimic enjoyer. I end up changing stuff. My Colt collection is highly sacrilegious to cloners. I carried a A4/M4 during the GWOT for a living. I like nostalgia. I have a F'ed up version of my service rifle. It started out as a Colt Competition HBAR. No threaded muzzle. It had the A3/A4 carry handle upper. Thats the reason I bought it. Marine Corps Times had a article with the Commandant General Jones holding the new A4. I went to the Del Mar gunshow and overpaid happily for that rifle. My roommate at the time was a armorer and he changed the barrel out for a new military barrel. He wanted the HBAR cause he shot service rifle competition. I refused to register it under the California Assault Weapons Ban and sent it to live with my uncle. He shot that A2 barrel out. And I retrieved it upon his death. I replaced the barrel with a Criterion 1/8 that ADCO re-pinned FSB to. And it has a 12 inch Centurion C4 rail. And a TA31/RMR combo with the ACSS Aurora reticle. It has a AO Precision BCG in it now. It's also the test bed subject for the Schmid Tool 2stage. Which seems to be pretty good. I have a hard time buying stuff from companies now. Knowing where this stuff comes from. I've had good luck with Anderson lower recievers. Mine are all newer. I had bought 2 of the Poverty Pony ones and one I sent back to Anderson and they replaced it.(Small mag well.) Then I bought a 5 pack of the no logo ones. They all pinned perfectly. And everything drops free. $194.00 for 5. 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Brother! The barrel is fine for my usage. Correct the TDP for the M4A1 is 0.062 +.001. Chrome Lining is only beneficial for sustained full auto fire, so not being CL isn't a big deal for me. I only drop the uppers on my FA lower just for shits and giggles, and new shooters, WOW factor. The GPD at 0.070 also isn't a big deal, for this specific "build". Oddly enough the GPD / H2 buffer combo seems to be working quite well in both semi / FA, as well as suppressed. The cyclic rate is slowed down, the ejection is near perfect! I do want to get some M855A1 and test it. How do you like the Schmid 2 stage so far?? I see they have a flat trigger now, I'm interested in that!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I agree, if you like this upper then I personally would build another m4 upper. Personally I like the centurion arms extended fsb rail system
I've spoken to Monte @ Centurion about that specifically! p.s. I'm becoming a dealer!!!
Build another upper! Then you will have both!
I'm really considering building the a M4A1 with the longer quad rail / FSB hole, and a URG-I....just because I can!! LOL
Larue mbt2s they're solid triggers i had a geissele g2s previously and after a couple thousand rounds i couldn't tell any difference in pull weight or reset between a friend's ssae that being said the larue is almost identical in feel and pull weight as the g2s and I'm sure after a few more rounds thru it it will get even better like the g2s did
This is the first time ive seen your channel. Subcribed. Thank you
YSF fasteners on gas keys are known to sheer. Their fine for other applications, but not on the component that takes a beating. If you've got 3k rounds on yours, maybe whoever made those gave a shit lol. I know for certain Ruger uses them on their ar-556, and sfar. I'd never buy a Ruger AR for that reason.
PSA's assembly is were they lag big time imo. I've had good luck with the parts themselves, but I wouldn't use any of their products until that stuff is taken apart and put together again properly.
The unfortunate truth is ALL manufacturers are LAGGING at some point!
Where can the average civilian purchase tools for guaging things like pin-hole sizes as you've demonstrated in your other videos? Appreciate your content. I'm a stickler for precision and quality control so your videos are very helpful. Thank you!
@bmeng8195.......Actually you can get complete sets of the pin gauges from Amazon! They are close enough for this type of work. Another great source is McMaster-Carr....a bit more expensive but you can get many different sizes! Thanks for the comment, please like and subscribe!!! P.S> I'm offering Armorer / Builders classes now. If you don't mind traveling to Arizona ( just not until after October when it's not Pre-Hell temps) LOL! Hit me up for more details on my website www.srtllc, and email at srtacc.llc@gmail.com
That lower looks used, or poorly anodized
Negative Sir, BRAND NEW out of the box. I did spray it off with brake cleaner to remove anything that may have been present.
like your video quick question... have you had any experience with a company called Sharps? they make a BCG called fail safe BCG?
I have a very good friend that has one of the SHARPS BCG in Nickle Boron. I gauged it when he first got it, and it was to spec! He has about 3k rounds on it, with no issues. It cleans up pretty well. He just doesn't like the change in the color.
I like what you have to say but CHF is not TDP. They are button-broached even though the CHF is better.
@blackyzfr1, I stand corrected about Colt barrels / TDP being CHF. Hence you are correct! I actually called my Colt rep earlier for clarification!!! The process that COLT barrels used was button-broached aka COLD FORMING RIFLING! This process was used to create more accurate barrels! Oddly enough Colt Canada aka Diemaco actually used CHF barrels! BTW, I'm attempting to acquire the Diemaco TDP / Prints! I will need to correct this video asap! And I'm on the hunt for a Diemaco barrel or two! LOL Email me at srtacc.llc@gmail.com, I have some documents for you!
@@seniortac4175 During our Colt armorers class the instructor stated Colt uses (push button) and it only takes 3 minutes to make..
I couldn't agree more.. I get asked the same question all the time too and when I don't give a cut and dried answer, I get the look lol.. When I try to explain head space, function gauge, bolt face, carrier, bore, etc, testing along with the fit and fitment, I watch their eyes glaze over...Then I will explain that price does not always guarantee quality or crap and that crap can even get through some of the best reputable manufactures, (even though the odds are higher it won't) is when I seem to lose them.. There is a lot of bad information being spread on forums and in UA-cam land that makes it even harder to educate.. It is channels like yours that can make a difference..Once again I enjoy your content and I always look forward to it, keep up the good work!
Thanks for video, plz check my comments from your PSA video. I would love to have a copy of your spreed sheets.
I just need your email! I'll be glad to share!
I really enjoy your information, it has been spot on..Were you at the Colt armorers class last summer at Gunsite by chance?
@hairydogstail.....I didn't attend. My certifications for COLT are good until 2025.
Great content.. I noticed the Aero M4E1 lower does not have the pivot pin detent bore oil hole drilled in the receiver boss..Glad I found your channel..
Send me your email and I'll give you copies of the documents I created for the upper and lower receivers, as well as a BCG inspection sheet. All relative information is on all of them!
@@seniortac4175I appreciate that, will do..
I wonder if the Aero M4E1 Pro version does or not
Thanks Brother!!!
Dude, found your comment on SOTAR's Facebook page. PLEASE keep making content. We need more of this in the AR UA-cam space. Chad does a wonderful service, but we need more of this. I won't name names, but I get so tired of "top five budget rifles", and then those videos don't bother bringing up material science whatsoever. Brownells did a video on cheaper vs expensive parts, and offered NO material science to back up anything they were saying. Lets actually explain why something is quality or not quality. Usually, the most elaboration I ever hear is "higher quality materials". Talk about vague and just plain unhelpful. Fantastic video man!
Thank you Sir! I absolutely respect Chad and SOTAR and support him 100 percent! I will be doing more videos of VERY similar content. My next video is going to be on a Anderson Manufacturing lower I used on my wife's "Orange Dreamsicle" rifle. I'm curious to the outcome as well! And just like this one everything will be right there for all to see! Any other brands you wish to see???? Thanks again, do check out the LE6920 videos if you haven't already!
@@seniortac4175 Binging your videos on that Colt as we speak. Nice to see someone set the record straight on Colt. Their management and ownership is most definitely a crap house, but the rifles they actually produce are still some of the most consistent and well built rifles on the market. Every time I handle one, they feel like a shit brick house. If your taking suggestions, I'd love to see content geared towards some of the other less expensive receiver offerings. Both uppers and lowers would be nice. I'm always recommending my friends and acquaintances they put the money into the bcg and barrel if money is tight, and to not waste it on gimmicky stuff that offers no performance advantage (I'm the guy who has an LMT BCG in Anderson receivers lol). Just for laughs, I'd like to see more content on BCA products. I don't know anyone who's gauged one of their bcgs, or receivers. But I don't expect you to waste money on anything like that, its purely a curiosity. The biggest thing I think is missing in this space, is barrel details. I, and many others, have fallen for the "cold hammer forging" hype beast marketing. I'm not implying it isn't a quality process, because it absolutely is. I've just seen to many asinine claims that have no basis in reality about CHF barrels. BCA bought CHFing machines, and they made a video claiming it expands barrel life up to three times as much. I'd almost believe it if it came from Colt, FN, or DD, but you know BCA is spreading BS just to make money. I wish you the best of luck on your channel. You'll have me as a sub and regular viewer, and I hope you get many more.
@@coltonowens2742 Thank you Sir! I'm working on my wife's Anderson Manufacturing rifle currently, and already have the lower stripped and ready for video!!! I know nothing about BCA, I'm assuming that is Bear Creek Arsenal?? I will dig around my friends locally to see if one is available! My content is going to expand to the uppers and barrels as well, in the very near future!! - Thanks SRT out
Agree 100%, I couldn't have said it better..The only thing that would make one better than the other is the resale value if that was important..Perception rather than reality comes to mind..
