Tweedy Misc
Приєднався 18 жов 2023
The channel for all the stuff Tweedy makes that doesn't really fit anywhere else.
How to not watch videos you don't like on YouTube
Occasionally I seem to get people leaving irate comments on my videos, and in the spirit of kindness I made this video to help them. I have no doubt they'll greatly appreciate it.

Why did a London publican walk nearly 60 miles in one day in 1767?
Переглядів 2,7 тис.14 днів тому
A rabbit hole of historical curiosity triggered by a recent @TweedyPubs video: ua-cam.com/video/CPhcAorWFyg/v-deo.html I found a newspaper article about the Ship, on Talbot Court, near Fenchurch Street, dated 1767. It details an account of the publican at that time, one Mr. Stiff, having undertaken a bet to walk from his pub to the 26 mile stone at Maidenhead, and back again, in 24 hours. At th...

Art with Tweedy: When the Sun in Splendour Fades
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 місяці тому
I discuss a painting of Hampstead Heath in 1862 by John MacWhirter, which has the alternative title of "When the Sun in Splendour Fades".
I feel this one Tweedy. I’ve had all sorts of bad-weird and rude comments. If they stray into nasty territory (either about me, people I’m with, town I’m in or pubs I’m in) I just delete them. I’m happy for constructive or grumpy comments to remain up but not unhelpful nastiness. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Brilliant 😂 but like an 80s stranger danger vid
After quite a few weird-in-a-bad-way comments, I now mainly just disable comments. The one that tipped me over the edge was where as part of a longer video I included a shot of cow with soulful eyes, and commented "This reminds me why I'm a vegetarian." Just 5 seconds of video. But it inspired some weirdo to post a diatribe accusing me of pro-vegetarian propaganda, and assuring me that he would resist all my attempts to stop him eating meat if he wanted to, blah, blah. And I realised that he had probably watched the whole video just to find 5 seconds to be offended by. My disabling comments would probably be seen as denying them their freedom of speech, but since they cant tell me, they're kind of neutered. I like to imagine these people imploding with frustration in front of their computers. Constructive comments are nice, destructive ones say more about the commentor than the video. But its all just too much hassle, so I set the controls to disabled and carry on doing MY thing.
Aaaah hate em aaah bad comment bad energy aaaaah
Yet I somehow managed to watch this piece of AI generated nonsense, so it clearly doesn't work.
ikr
@@tapemaster2k I'm delighted you're bonding over this!
TweedyMisc Bonding over what? Speak English, boomer.
People that can't stay nice to others should not be allowed access to the Internet at all. Keep up the good work, all (nice) content creators.
So why is there a Berlin street name sign on a bridge to a shopping centre in London?
This is common UA-cam knowledge, not only that but this video is AI slop. I'm even convinced that the people commenting here are bots.
Yes it's baffling that a video intended as a paggro response to trolls doesn't have higher production values or more unique insights.
TweedyMisc Says the person who made the damn video
@@tapemaster2k I'm getting a hint of doth protest too much now.
TweedyMisc What the hell is doth protest
@@tapemaster2k Shakespeare.
Essential information, amusingly presented, but the option to not recommend a video mostly seems to do nothing. This is UA-cam's fault.
Thanks! Now I can never see this disgusting ai generated video ever again! 😊
@@JaredtheNacliFan Given the target audience hand drawing every frame would have been a bit pearls before swine.
TweedyMisc Did you even speak English?
But but but….leaving rude comments is my foundation, my wellspring…nay, my very raison d’être! If I follow these recommendations that means I’m responsible for my own happiness and the efficient and profitable use of my own time. Asking me to take responsibility for my behaviour confuses and upsets me. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go and explain to some bloke in his video comments how Tesco Lambrusco Rosso is superior to Gevrey-Chambertin. I doubt he’ll recognize my unmistakable genius for what it is, but everyone has the right to my opinions. Tally ho!
Lol. Really all you needed was that last point. Some people just need a little brutal honesty.
The features showcased in this video is common UA-cam knowledge.
I watched this and went to the pub. I think that is a positive outcome :)
I doubt you'll get a bed it that hotel!
Top stuff!! this new world where people just like to moan/ be offended/blame someone else for their bad choices makes me sick!! Good luck mate , keep doing what you’re doing!👍 Top channel 👍 And people,,, grow up , get a life and go and watch something that pleases you! It’s not hard🤬 A good piss take Tweedy old pal!!😂 Keep up the good work!🍺🍺🍺🍺💪
The Don’t Recommend button expires after 3-6 months and you have to do it all again
I would say a crap place. I really like your vlogs mate. Please keep them coming.
Thank you for the reminder. I tend to forget, that I can fully control the recommended videos. I really enjoyed this video!
I always enjoy your videos as you look like you're enjoying yourself, whether it's eating out in wild locations or collaborating with others.
If liking Tweedy is wrong, then I don’t want to be right!
Great video, I have gotten a couple of weird comments on my own videos from people angrily wondering why they are watching the video (as if commenting will somehow stop future videos from showing up!) I will link them this video in future!
Thanks Chris! I can't tell if this will be effective, but you're welcome to try!
This is genius! You carry on your good work and stick two fingers up to the haters! They’re only jealous.
Thank you! Does it maybe come across as ever so slightly passive aggressive...? 😁
No, but even if it did, why should you care about the people that think it is?! 😄 Have a big sigh and an even bigger glass of Gevrey Chambertin! 🍷Cheers!
This excellent piece of work couldn’t have come at a better time! I’ve had a rough couple of days in the comments. I can now just reply with a link to this video. Thanks Tweedy!
Sorry to hear you're dealing with that flak Mr WC21 - I assume part of it is an unfortunate side effect of the extra exposure your most recent video has had... but also I do get a sense there's a seasonal component, and a subset of people are noticeably more grumpy than usual in the run-up to Christmas. Yes please feel free to post this link rather than having to respond to unwanted feedback! I tried to tread a fine line here between being helpful (and poking fun at myself a bit) but overall the message is that whoever finds themselves in the position of feeling motivated to write those kinds of grumpy comments has brought it on themselves!
You had some fun doing this one. Did you narrate it too? Its very well put together. Useful to know what some of these things are!! I tried looking at FB settings but I couldn't fathom it out and really don't use it. Occasionally I will look at the feed, when I do it always seems to be Americans or Canadians reviewing tracks from The Stranglers from 40 years ago!! I appreciate all the content that people share I wish I could watch it all!! All the best!!
Thanks David! No it's not my voice (it would be impressive if I could mimic that!). The main reason for making this video was to save time answering less-than-favourable comments on my other channels - now I can just post a link to this. However I figured somebody who had already expressed some aversion to my videographic oeuvre might not be likely to watch any of this video if it were presented by me.
I can't understand that people would not be interested in Tweedy videos. Please carry on.👍
Thanks Peter! There are people who don't like pubs, don't like wine, don't like the countryside, and perhaps most unthinkable - don't like tweed! We live in a strange world.
@@TweedyMisc True that. Fortunately, I love pubs, wine and the countryside. You're preaching to a choir member, but I like it.
Hilarious!
Thanks Kevin. I find my comic timing is much better when I put on this slightly robotic voice.
I think that searching out videos for yourself is far better than waiting to be spoon fed them by a giant flowchart...
Did I accidentally provide some good advice?
Q. Did I make a bad decision to watch this whole video? 🫣🥴 A. Not at all. Very entertaining and informative 👏👏 👍😀
This is AI slop that just repeats common UA-cam knowledge.
pmsl.
...but it's meant to be highly informative "how to" content Alan! 😂
😂😂 You need a bottle of Burgundy to fortify yourself. And I thought nothing could come close to Soviet era architecture
Jolly well done, Mr Stiff. Jolly well done too, Mr.Tweedy, for a rather natty 3-piece.😉✌️
When the article reports that he was 'obliged' to stop at several other houses on the way, I can't help feeling that maybe it was an actual obligation - a part of the bet.a way of verifying via the other publicans that he did indeed walk the entire way.
The route was probably more direct by foot years ago through lack of development 😳
Our man Tweedy letting his inner smart-arse out? Huzzah!
Wait, what? Heath Row? Way to bury the lede.
So the morale of the story is that he should have walked further if he wanted to live longer than 59 years. The lazy old twerp, should have got a jog on :)
only in Britain...
A sterling effort from Mr Stiff. Of which, at last year's Isle of Man Parish Walk - an event in which competitors attempt to walk 85 miles around the island inside 24 hours - the record for the oldest finisher was broken by a guy called Geoff Hain. He did the 85 miles in 23:41 at the ripe old age of 77 and 10 months.
Excellent research. Love those old maps.
He would have been stiff and sore upon his return to Maidenhead. I am of Great Age and the greatest distance I have walked in one go is 12km so kudos to Mr Stiff.
How about dispiriting.
Why did he walk…. Oh, alright. I’ll watch it. Ssssh.
A word that is the polar opposite of wonderful and magical? Dunstable, perhaps
A particular infertile experience indeed (as in "unable to sustain a sense of joy, wonder, amazement, curiosity - indeed, unable to sustain life itself...")
I think that people would have generally walked a lot more often back in the 1700s. Given that, 59 miles in one day is phenomenal. I think the longest I ever walked in one day was 12 miles from Lewes to Alfriston on the South Downs Way, and my feet were very sore at the end.
I've done a very similar walk the other way round - Easbourne to Southease - on the South Downs Way and I could barely stand up at the end!
@@TweedyMisc my initial plan was to walk the SDW from Southease Station to Alfriston, but instead of taking the train from Lewes to Southease I walked. That added about 5 miles and almost two hours to the start of the walk! Not very good planning on my part in the pre-Google Maps days!
I've heard this story, and I thought it was one of those made-up stories of those times - after all, an aged character being called "Mr. Stiff" seems sort of obvious.
Interesting! Do you remember where else you heard it? I tried searching for other newspaper accounts of it but this one featured is the only one I could find. Whether or not he genuinely managed the walk I'm not sure, but based on those other records I'm fairly sure Samuel Stiff was the landlord of the Ship at that time.
Very cool Tweedy! Wow what a long way, and I can imagine back in 1767 the roads would have been less than desirable for long distance walking. Great bit of history. Thanks.
Thanks Kevin! Yes surely at least some of this route would have been fairly rough underfoot. Although at least not so many hills.
Fantastic. I love that you mapped his route and even have a theory as to why he chose that destination. Great stuff. I'm 58 and I am pretty sure I could run from The Ship to Maidenhead and back then stand on my head while drinking a pint. Anyone want to take that bet? 🐵
Thank you! The maps were really satisfying on this occasion - it made it very clear to me which route he'd likely have taken. I'm impressed by that spirit - after all it's "only" two marathons and then another 7 miles in one day, right?
These challenges were by a group of britishers called the fancy ,one of the most celebrated was captain Barclay allardice
Thanks for the pointer Andrew - I've looked up Barclay Allardice, quite a character! What a rich seam "pedestrianism" is, I can see more videos on this topic ahead...
Excellent research as usual.
Thank you!
