Ive been thinking this please is most likely to have a terest atack. So be cearful
So weird I have nostalgia for this place because I live overseas but I have visited the Metro every time I went to the NE to see family , so in this odd way it feels like a part of my childhood even if the first time I stepped foot in here was in 2006 . I was totally depressed when I heard they closed Metroland , I loved that area of the mall , a full on amusement park inside , with a roller coaster , a giant swing , and bumper cars , who cares if I was an adult already , I just adore that type of stuff , especially in this environment . I also recall seeing the movie IT at the theater there , awesome memory for me . Then , another find memory from 2017 , perusing Toys R Us , the massive one outside the mall but still in the same complex , parking area , that was amazing honestly . It's so depressing that Metroland and Toys R Us no longer exist , they were moments in time I will never experience again . And every time I went and had these experiences I said it's not a problem, I'll see them again when I come back , I still regret not taking more video of Metroland , and if not taking any video of the inside of Toys r Us Anyways , this place is awesome , I hope to go back soon and it will always hold a special place in my heart
23 seconds and I cant watch these tools in masks
I live near to Durham so im a regular to the City. What i like about it is its not too large.and quite friendly
Visited it in 2023, old dated, full of chavs and rough looking people. Awful place.
Very beautiful city cheers!
I'm a Geordie. I love this!
Forty years since I last walked those streets. Some of the people I walked with are no longer living, and all are gone from my life. Tears in my ageing eyes today.
Another of Washington villages claim to fame is the capture of the Highwayman, Robert Hazlett (or Hazlitt) who was caught whilst his horse was being re-shod at the local smithy, the building with the red tiled roof at 0:22 and again at 5:58, now converted into a restaurant. He was hanged at Durham on Tu. 18 September 1770 and his body hung on a Gibbet in chains at Wrekenton (Gateshead Fell)
Im going here tomorrow for a girls day!!
Me, my mom, my moms friends, my sisters, my bff, my cousin and my classmate friend
@MajaGryShorts enjoy! We went again this week and lots of new shops have opened near the Apple Store so be sure to check them out!
Why didn't you go down to Dame Margaret's Hall.
I know Durham very well and you did this wonderful city great justice with your walk.Thank you.
Thank you 🤗
I’ve been here it’s so good
Camera set up gimbal and camera are phone thanks in advance
I still go to the MetroCentre every fortnight its my local but not many shops left i miss the old days with the fountains trees so many great shops back then baba yaga and the all year round Christmas shop so many great places gone now
What happened? Is it because of Covid ?
It's sadly a shadow of its former self. Like so many malls around the western world, it's struggling. The big chains that used to anchor the centre, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Top Shop, BHS, Littlewoods, Woolworths - they've all gone bust. Part of me thinks that in ten years time it'll all be demolished and there'll be a housing estate there instead.
looks like they dont have many people visiting . westfields are busy
@@Lemingtona-x5g I agree much nicer clientele in Westfield’s. Metro centre was rough and chavy.
Mate…. Looks like you’re having/had an awesome trip… I’ll catch up with the rest when I’ve a sec ❤
Wery nice walk in nigth good ❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! It was an amazing city
What an amazing video. I am One of Your Fans.
Thank you! ❤️
Miss home
One of the best small citys in England 🏴❤️
Thanks for watching!
Not as small as you may think. Only really London, Birmingham, Manchester & Glasgow are bigger in terms of population, and Liverpool is of a similar size demographically. If you're talking about 'sprawl', Newcastle city boundaries' stretches for a good few miles from the banks of the Tyne. I used to call Newcastle a 'small' city too, but that's compared to London and so not really correct, given London's a megacity. Newcastle is the approximately fifth largest city in the UK in terms of size, so no more 'small' city.
Newcastle england 🏴❤️
Even pretty in the rain!
Hi I would like to know is there any monument or buildings relating to GEORGE WASHINGTON or his family now in that place? or is there anyt place worthing visiting there
Yes. Be sure to visit his ancestral home located in the village. There is a fee to pay however. Enjoy!
Newcastle england 🏴❤️😍
Kind of sad to see half of these places are now closed, Metrocentre is not what it used to be
Walk around with a torch
Nice idea! We will have to try this

Great video. I made a similar video walking around Newcastle city centre using a gimbal.
I'll check it out!
Best city in the 🌎
Glad you enjoyed
I speak as a local. Newcastle is many things, but it's a million, trillion miles away from being the best city in the world.
I go to the metro center alot abd it gets small when you go to it again and again

Great walk through my home town! Thanks for sharing that.
This is the best Durham walking tour so far
I come here every Sunday I litrelly live inside the Lego shop what day is it when u filmed I might be on there?
Maybe! I'm going back to film in some shops soon
You cannot hide the decline of the Metro Centre (pandemic filming aside) this place is devoid of buzz the shops are mainly low rent offerings great swathes of shops have closed for good never to return (and not all of that is due to the pandemic) it's being coasting downhill for a few years now . Just past the antiques village (lol ) no shops at all there used to be lots of little independents or small box stores there now non at all in that area (from about 4.11 onwards ) . There is a noticeable abscence of "community spaces" i.e seated areas for the convenience of the shoppers to sit a while the trees and foliage mostly all gone and the lack of benches to relax aaround the large shopping Mall are conspicuous by there abscence . Guess Metro Centre don't want the cost of all the seating they dont prvide impacting their bottom line , equally how does it look to have their shoppers siiting on the floor here and there ? not good . The metro centres hey day was in the 1990s , personally the pandemic aside this place will either have to change improve drastically or it will continue to die and wither away . Shame because back in the day it had a real decent offering for the consumer . Nowadays I think it's like a big warehouse , sterile and quite frankly dull .
Thanks for your insight. Will be revisiting soon
Losing some of its main anchors such as Debenhams, House of Fraser and BHS (just to name a few) won't have helped. Many areas outside of the Metrocentre have their own retail parks with enough shops that travelling to the Metrocentre isn't always worth it.
westfields are busy
thinking of moving here in the next couple years :) what a beautiful mixture of old and new architecture
Glad you enjoyed the video. More newcastle to come!
Brings back memories of my childhood, my nana lived in jarrow, my aunts uncles cousins lived in marsden, south sheilds bouldon, huge family met up spent hours on the beach outside marsden grotto, looks much the same as it did in the 60s only the walls were chunky white things and there was a shop that sold buckets and spades icecreams etc, i have a picture from when i was a i was 5 years old little girl with my sister sat on a zebra ride that was outside the shop, im 63 now, always wanted to live in south shelids as did my mum all her relatives lived there but we stayed in nottingham where my dad was born, all passed on now parents aunts uncles and a few younger cousins, happy and sad memories but lovely to see oit again
I’m glad it’s brought back some memories for you! It is such a special place to many. Glad it hasn’t changed much like you say. The sea was crazy the day of filming and I’ve not seen it that wild since or before!
Hipster?? Looks rough as hell!
Moved far south from here last year, it’s been really tough. Came across this video randomly and it’s brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much. Nothing better than the North East.
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. England isn’t that big.. you should visit the north east again soon!
Aww l hope you settle.
from Malaysia with love ❤️

It still looks good after 30 years.
