SPECIALIZED Roval Rapide Cockpit unboxing - MagCAD vs Specialized spacers for Tarmac SL7 + weights
Hey everyone!
Today, I'll be showing what's inside the box of the not-so-new Roval Rapide Cockpit. I'll reveal the real weight and accessories that come with it. Additionally, I'll compare the original Specialized transition spacer solution for the Tarmac SL7 with the custom dedicated SL7 MagCad spacer. Check out the video; I hope you enjoy it!
Click subscribe if you want to see more content or receive notifications for the my upcoming S-Works SL "7.5" build.
So, long story short, the maximum recommended stack height for the Tarmac SL7 is up to 35 mm between the lower and upper transition spacers, which is how ready builds come straight out of the box. If you have a full spacer stack and want to upgrade to the Roval Rapide Cockpit using the Specialized transition spacer, you will need to remove one 10 mm spacer from the stack because the cockpit has a 10 mm taller head compared to the SL stem. Failing to do so will result in too much empty space between the top cap and the top of the steerer, where the expander is located.
The MagCad kit comes with 30 mm spacers plus the upper transition spacer. However, when replacing the stem/handlebar combo, you only really need 25 mm (as I mentioned, the cockpit head is taller), so you can remove one 5 mm spacer. For new builds, like my upcoming S-Works SL7, you may want to buy an additional 5 mm spacer if you aim to reach the maximum stack height. I recently had a basic fit on my Aethos and agreed with the fitter that, in my case, starting from the maximum stack height was the best option as I'm not very flexible.
The MagCad design looks sleeker to me. The black finish is not as good as on the original spacer kit, and the spacers are solid, without the option to take any of them off with the cables routed through. That is indeed a disadvantage. However, the significant difference in looks favors the MagCad, and I would choose it over the original solution every day.
They do offer transition spacers if your steerer is cut short, so check out their website for more information: www.magcad-designs.com/collections/headset-spacers-and-kits
I'd like to mention that I'm not in any way affiliated with MagCad and paid the full price for the kit out of my own pocket.

    Hey, nice video! I plan to upgrade my SL8 Pro's SL7 stem + aero handlebar combo to this cockpit. I am a bit confused, because the old stem is +6° and the cockpit is -6°. So, to have the same fit as with my SL7 stem + handlebar (handlebar stack), I would need to put at least one extra 1cm spacer below the cockpit to mitigate the -6°, right?

    • @dreamvelo3210
      @dreamvelo3210 7 місяців тому

      Hey Peter! Are you certain the old stem is +6? Pretty sure the stem for SL7 only had -6 and -12 degree angle options. There should’t be any difference with the 6 degree stem as it’s the negative 6.

    • @peterhelmke6318
      @peterhelmke6318 7 місяців тому

      @@dreamvelo3210 Thank you! You must be right. Maybe I just misunderstood the product pages. So, in the end I just have to remove one 1cm spacer to have the same fit, because the cockpit is 1cm taller. I want to cut my steerer shaft and just to make sure that I am still compatible with the cockpit when it becomes available in my desired size.

    • @dreamvelo3210
      @dreamvelo3210 7 місяців тому

      Removing 1 cm spacer should do the trick. There should be no more than 3 mm space between top of the stem/cockpit and steerer tube. Check page 25 of the user manual for more info: support.specialized.com/manuals/manuals/road-bikes/tarmac?scroll-translations%3Alanguage-key=en .If you want to shorten your steerer tube, I’d definitely recommend doing it in your LBS, if you never done it before. It can be a very expensive mistake 😂.

    This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

    RD in time 11:03 in much different angle on dropout than in time 15:03. How did you solve that? I mean there is that stopper "ear" on dropout... It means in 15:03 not touching the "ear" and just torqued? Or did you change dropout?

      Hey Ondrej, not sure if I understood the question correctly but it’s the chain that gives tension to the derailleur and put’s it in a different angle at 15:03. I didn’t make any other adjustments, it’s all documented step by step. Hope that helps 😊

    Updating the firmware for the shifters is a major PITA. You cannot do it wirelessly. Instead you have to connect one at a time via a specific wire to the battery (if your battery is in the seat post) or in my case my battery is in the down tube which means you need another special adapter to connect to your front derailleur! And you need to update one shifter at a time. Alternatively you can take it to a bike shop to do the update (free only if you purchased it there). Stupid design and proves SRAM is light years ahead of Shimano
