Tevia (Tevye) from Fiddler on the Roof talks to God. Reminds me of King David talking to God. Great passion, honesty, like a man talking and sharing with a great friend...and in SONG! I'm certainly not advocating asking God for worldly riches...but talking to God the way Tevia (and probably King David) did.

I have always said that my favourite song from Fiddler is L'Chaim (To Life). And while that is true, this is the absolute best number in the show. Just a man, speaking to his G-d and not really asking for anything, other than the time to "sit in a synagogue and pray". All the other things he talks about pale in comparison, because "that would be the sweetest thing of all". It tells you a lot about what kind of man Tevye is, and makes him all the more heroic. And a hero is what he is. Without a doubt.

@@BarthvaderHalloween I didn't censor G-d. G-d's name is not supposed to be written out when speaking of him. Or, for that matter, speaking either. That is why Jews call him Hashem. It is a way to reference G-d without saying His name.

I have never been too religious but this is honestly very endearing, Like I have a strange respect for this.
When piety is cloaked with a heavy garment of humility - the results, I suspect, would be heartening... Jesus being identified as a drunken - and heard gladly by the common man - and despised by the religious establishment, e.g. white American evangelicalism, might all provide a clue...🙂🙂

I don't think Tevye is seriously asking for worldly riches, but he's more or less condemning or complaining about the existence of wealth. Because Tevye is critical of the idleness, waste and vanity of the rich in this song

As I listen to part five, I realize there is a spectrum of suffering. However, I am not hearing that we LOOK for persecution. What I AM hearing is that we live out Christ with abandon, but not annoyance. In other words, we don't figure out what will make others angry (from the Word, of course) just to receive persecution. It would be like those who did/do believe that suffering like Christ is that same as self-flagellation. Suffering is living for Christ as Christ would without regard to "being offensive." Yes!!!! I have been bothered about those who take one verse (or select verses) to support some "new thing" for Christians. As a believer the Jesus the Savior, I need to be more like Jesus which includes not caring what others thing or say (unto torture) because it IS TRUTH!!! Thanks, Francis Art

One verse comes to mind from a recent deep dive into some of the parables of Jesus: Matthew 13:21"...yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles." Praying for you, brother.

I'm always cynical toward "popular" pastors like Chan, but man...this guy is truly filled with the Holy Spirit and humility. He sees the word so clearly, whereas others can't take the scales off their eyes.
