Valheim Guide: How to Build Higher With Stone Walls
Переглядів 42 тис.3 роки тому
Recently, in my "Mountain Castle Build" series, I've been struggling upwards to the heights that I've been wanting to. This has been due to the stability mechanics in the game. But recently, I was shown a way to improve the stability of structures while building to much higher limits! I hope you find this quick video helpful! 🕒TIME STAMPS🕒 00:00 - Intro 00:45 - The Method 01:05 - Experiment 1 0...

I show you how you can use a warehouse world to quickly transport large amounts of items across your world. I’m about to start a tower for my home village. Going to try using trees planted to build off of on the higher levels.

    The next time you work on a castle try adding Machicolations to the defensive layout of the wall. Machicolations were a narrow gap between the ramparts and the wall ahead which allowed defending archers to fire directly down at the attackers assaulting the front gate without having to lean over the battlements. Beyond that your layout is absolutely gorgeous

    2:29 is exactly what I came for. I wish you had done a tutorial on how you got that wood turret to look so good on top of your tower because I can't find anyone doing this build anywhere else 😭

    I know I'm freakin 2 years late but if you turn alternative placement on, you can get those iron wood beams to not clip through the wood pieces if you put them in juuuust the right place. Usually, I'll put a random piece of wood next to where I want to place something so I can aim off of it and clip the object I want to build just far enough in to where it doesn't look funky. After you get that initial piece to line up perfectly, turn alternative placement mode back off and just start snapping more iron beams across the gate. Takes a bit of fanangaling but it works. You might have to start over a few times before you get it to match up perfectly with the ends of the wood walls. Ideally, it will look as if you snapped the iron beams into the walls but they won't be so pushed in as to look all glitchy like that.

    I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I needed to ask, when you were doing the stable, did you ever imagine people using it as lodging for mounted Lox? I could just see a server seed world with multiple cities like this, dotted all over, with Lox as the main form of land transport... Or, Lox stables adjacent to portal hubs and seaports with Lox rentals for traveling adventurer Vikings. I'm also somewhat disappointed you didn't use Underworld (the one about Lucian's origins) as part of your inspiration. Like, a mountain castle for your pet Wolfie's and then an adjacent Black Forest with a number of medieval villages scattered around it.

    Short note on realism on the keep's open gate: Imagine it had to be closed to the bottom at one point, therefore how much gate had to be where while it's open? Exactly: Above. Increase the height of the gate tower to have some space where the gate can get when pulled up. Love your build and your thoughts from a fellow game / level designer ❤️

    you can get higher still. Just do the walls as double and fill the inside with raised ground. You can then start the iron/wood beaming from there and voila.

  • @amurrjuan
    @amurrjuan 3 роки тому

    You could’ve done it 10 times faster if you raised it by clicking on the face of the raised ground you already made. This would basically fill up to that height with one click instead of a dozen

    the support beams at 1:35 doesnt contribute to stability at all. You need to build iron poles for stabilizing stone pieces.

  • @dpjinjo
    @dpjinjo 3 роки тому

    if you're going to hide the iron by covering it with stone, you should try to use iron gates instead of iron beams. I think this will allow you to support stone higher.

  • @HelicopterShark
    @HelicopterShark 3 роки тому

    I realise this is months old but you could fill the inside of the tower with a LAND pillar by raising the ground in the centre , you could then surround that with stone or wood if you want to use the inside area. But I think this will increase your stability range to allow for more stone higher up. I don't build with stone much so I'm not 100% but I think it will work if you have the stone floor of the top section of the tower touching the land pillar.

    I'm at 17 or so 4x2 with iron poles, i think this video might be outdated or 4x2 supports higher limits than 2x1. Will maybe post a video showing my tower when I figure out how high I can actually get it.

    • @229Shak
      @229Shak 3 роки тому

      Correction: didn't get that high after all! Took several valheim days to break, and I wasn't getting red indicators on the bricks I placed that broke.
