Stealth / Immersive Sim NPC Behaviors - Unreal Engine DevLog 4
Creating interesting NPCs is a crucial component of a stealth / imsim project. Getting a satisfying result take a lot of trial and error, but hopefully you can see the beginnings of a fun collection of behaviors that will drive the core gameplay incentives the player will encounter.

Not gonna lie. Great video... but this guy does sound like he's constantly using auto-tune. <3
I need help with keybinding and setting up these exact same sticks. Any suggestions? I imported the mapping, but when I try to move forward, I'm just stuck with no momentum.
Master modes have kinda made a lot of the mappings from this video obsolete, I should probably do another one that incorporates that feature

One thing ive notice that the content creators dont tell us new hotas and hosas rookies is adjusting the deadzones on the sticks. When i got my VKB set up i was like shit these dont work either and janky like my X52 set up, until i figured it out myself. So one thing you do after key bind is lower them deadzones

I think it would be interesting to have a system where if you haven't initiated combat and the enemy spots you (and according to the story, they might not know who you are yet/presumably don't have orders to kill intruders on sight), they attempt to subdue and capture the player instead. If you allow yourself to be captured, you get locked up and have some opportunity to escape. Maybe you have to survive an interrogation via a number of checks or something before you're allowed your chance. Every time you get captured by that faction after that (assuming they give you a second chance) it gets significantly harder to escape and also increases the general difficulty of sneaking around that faction because you are now a known fugitive. I know that's probably really complex and would also probably be best implemented in an open world with multiple factions, but it would be a way to combine some of the cool but kinda half baked concepts of MGSV, Hitman, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls into a system with more believablity, nuance, and depth. As long as it's fun I think it would be a revolutionary step in stealth interactions.

I was literally just writing a suggestion and I scrolled by accident, deleting it. Suspicion bar for NPCs. Body has to be visible until suspicion bar reaches 100% before the NPC calls it out. Every NPC starts with a random Paranoia stat from 0-40% that influences how quickly it fills. When a body is called out, the paranoia of everybody withing hearing range of the call out goes to 100%, meaning it fills within less than half a second or something.
What about a grappling hook?

For the stealth takedowns/knock out enemies you could perhaps have either takedown animations ( similar to CoD but without the cutscene bit ) or perhaps either have a hanging obstacle such as perhaps, a heavy iron sign or something, something that can be either shot at or engaged with to timely drop to not only just knock your NPCs out, but maybe even possibly help the protag access to other parts of the map ( like uncharted games ) could be used in easter eggs and give a bit of a challenge and more interaction, maybe?
