How wonderful to get an update 😊he’s his mother’s son if he loves eating, Uniek was the same. When they show the Friesians they follow from a distance behind with a rattle can of sand and stones and wave the crop you have. You got the perfect result from what you did, also try to get him to run both ways round the dry lot so he doesn’t get too used to turning in one direction. He’s super shiny which is a sign of good health! I use coconut oil to repel bugs for my dog and recently saw a ranch owner does the same for her horses - maybe you could try that unless someone on here knows a better way. The lady rubs it sparingly on the belly, neck and butt

This whip is an extension to your hands, when you drive him. You can make a noise with it, but may not hit him!

You are doing fine by Julius. The “concerned” people may have other issues that are actually bothering them. And yes, his mother was exceptionally tall, so Julius is fine . 👍🏻

I told you to swish your jacket or make that sound or shake something like sand or small beads in a jar. Just make sure the sound isn't such as to scare him. Always tell him Goodzo Junge, and Braaaaaaf. If you want him to slow down say Ho-Hoooo. Or to stop, Ho.

I don't blame the others not wanting to be on camera but we are spoiled cuz of Yvonne and everyone over at Friesian Horses so we of course are greedy for all the Julius we can get but you do what you have to to care for him. We have to be patient.

Beautiful! Julius is going through all his gaits with very little prompting with the riding crop. He almost bucked in his excitement!❤😅

Julius looks magnificent! Healthy, happy, and shiny. It's obvious he's been loved for the past 9 months he's been with you because he looks to you and comes up to you in all the videos. I think that is a good sign he feels safe with you. I ride horses although can't afford one. Don't listen to the mean and judgmental people who spout off without seeing 100% of Julius' life. Most of them just watch horse videos without ever getting on a horse and think somehow that qualifies them to tell your professional training team what to do.

James, so nice to see a new video. Thank you! A couple of suggestions for your interaction with Julius. Relax a bit, in telling him he's a good boy, perhaps use Freisian words for good job GOEDZO or BRAAF. Continue praising him in English as well. He'll learn from you what's expected of him. Walk with him in the arena as a warm-up with halter and lead rope. Release rope and vocalize clicking sound or use crop to motion in the air asking him to trot, canter, gallop. Treats as reward after he's done as you asked. Julius looks great! Hello from south Florida.

I guess I’m in the dark about Julius’s history. He looks wonderful and healthy. Yvonne often swishes a plastic bag in her hands to make noise to make her horses run. You should watch her videos to get familiar with horse behavior. That’s what she teaches on her videos. Friesen Horses, follow the herd. A whip can sometimes be a bad reminder of abusive behavior for a horse. But he seemed to do ok with it. Would love to know more about how and why you acquired him. And when. Thanks for the update.

Hearing you hitting it on the ground is annoying and won’t get you anywhere. Try waving it in a tight circle in the air like you’re making a 3-D ice cream cone. The whirring sound is gentle but motivating. I hope I don’t have to listen to anymore hitting sounds.

That is not a whip, it is an extension of your hand. There are several channels which do round pen work with horses. That’s where you will see the finer points of using it. Down Under from Australia is a good one.

Goedzo, James! Actually, Julius would probably respond if you just waved your arms & clucked to him (NOT a chicken cluck, and encouragement cluck, like tch tch!). Once they get going horses seem to enjoy getting their exercise---that little kick was a happy thing & a tail up ("flagged") means a horse is having a good time. He looks beautiful & here are you,learning Horses For Dads 101!

Did you not know much about horses before purchasing this one? Seems not and you may be scaring him more whipping that thing on the ground. A good person to reach out to would be yovonne the owner Of Unique and Belle who is the sister of the horse you have. Maybe hire someone and take basic classes on horse 101😊best of luck to you most important just love on the horse which Iam sure you do😊❤

Thanks for the update. I've been thinking of Julius a bit lately. The crop stick or whip is an extension of your arm. What you're trying to do with him is what is called "at liberty" or totally free work. With at liberty, the horse is totally free to choose what to do. We can teach them to do what we want, but they choose whether too or not. If you search for Emotional Housemanship, I think he name is. He believes in the liberty choice for emotional help. Another thing is that he goes into detail about what the horses body language is saying. Your right owning a horse is harder than it looks. But, its so rewarding if and when you develop a true connection with them. The journey is hard, but each day, we learn something more, making it priceless in the end.
