Cheers Steve, really happy you're enjoying the content and games! I've noticed a lot of people mentioning that it's chill/relaxed, which isn't something I set out to make, but I'm actually really pleased that my content is coming across like that! 😎

I can only speak from my perspective, but I find it much easier to focus on 1 or 2 civs. You get to learn the pros and cons much better, plus it's easier to focus on the basics when you're not trying to also think about learning a different civ at the same time. I would say, if you're bored of either of your main civs, that's a good time to switch it up, but otherwise, sticking to and getting better with your main civs is always preferred.

Hey ash, those are some amazing points thank you. I especially like noting how poor their eco can be before they get Swabia and about it being difficult to split forces. It's weird cause I know all these things but end up forgetting them once I'm in game and focussing on other things. Thanks for reminding me and I'll definitely try a more aggressive route next time I'm up against OOTD. Cheers! 🫡

is Japanese a particularly difficult opponent for Rus? or just a civ you don't particularly enjoy playing against?

@@Spriice According to aoe4world it's a bad matchup pretty much all the time. I tried several strategies to no avail and currently taking a break. It's ridiculous and should be impossible to always get them as opponent. 😂

@@xShikari some bans would be nice, especially if they add more civs in 2025. you could always try a coaching server, and ask about the RUS vs JAP matchup, or even specifically what you find tricky. I know Valdemar and Papercut have pretty active coaching Discord servers 👍

sadly once you hit my age 👴🏻, the only games you're allowed to play are RTS, base-builders and solitaire however, if you're being serious this is Age of Empires 4 and is a very fun real-time-strategy game 👌

@@Spriice For me abbasid is a all in one civ just a little bit lack in early attack, but if you're able to put 3 tc in first 10mins and defended opponents raids you're unstoppable.

I think so! 🐪 I was dubious about using this strat into Delhi, as they can out-mass most civs. But I think I did a decent job making sure he didn't grow his force too much. Cheers for the comment Mao!

I'm beginning to feel the exact same. It gets tiring always being the subject of aggression and not the one forcing the opponent to react. Happy to hear you've been finding more success with a different strategy. The next few videos going up should be a bit more aggressive in style! Thanks for the comment beast 👌

@Spriice I finally beat the intermediate ai 1v1 yesterday that's about as far as I am and it felt pretty good. So I'm still playing as the English but look forward to playing the other ones as well. It's very fun and unlike most everything else I've played throughout my time especially since things are starting to click. I am very late to the rts party. Thanks for the reply.

@@CarbideShrapnel congrats! that's a big step, feels good once you start being able to beat the more difficult ai. Just remember the basics, make villagers, constantly produce military and make sure you have enough production buildings. Those things alone can get you to Gold league in ranked! good luck on your journey, welcome to the RTS genre haha

When I read this first I thought ''oh no had I already uploaded this video?!'' but then realised you meant on my AoE4 in-game profile right? haha I went back after this match to watch the replay and was HORRIFIED when I saw what that knight did to all my vills 😭

I've been seeing that more and more, the little cavalry raids. They can do such a disproportionate amount of work compared to the cost to make/use them. I need to work that into my gameplay more going forwards! Thanks for the comment once again my dude! 🫡

I main French at 1070ish elo and there are times I’ll not produce knights. Usually against civs like ottoman when they have their jannies out. Sometimes you just gotta adapt like that imo.

@@Spriice ​ I remember having a similar experience last time I got into the game which is that it's slow going at first as I research and try different builds but once I settle into one or two that fit my style I start to rise through the ranks. I like to play as the English. Right now I'm trying a 2tc abbey and white tower build. My main weakness is putting on pressure in the 3rd age and defending against raids without letting macro slip. I'm wondering if I should switch builds or civs though, I feel like the infantry and range combo is just so slow to move across the map and makes it difficult to raid.

ohh yeah, the slow movement can be difficult to manage. Nothing wrong with training a couple of knights to raid and distract your opponent with (rather than using your infantry), even if you are on English. that way, you might allow yourself more time to move your slow army across as he deals with the raids?

I really enjoy his videos too, they've helped me a lot. Have anything specific about scouting you would recommend? Or just to do it more regularly? Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the vid 🙌

Thank you, this sounds like excellent advice for next time. You're totally right, I made waaaay too many horses, cost me too much food as well. Very true, I was too focused on getting the 2nd TC in an optimal resource position, but I should have just used it defensively. Thanks for the comment, some amazing points here.
