ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE - Klaus & I made a trip into the Wonnangatta Valley where I successfully hunted a 30 inch mature stag 16 months prior 27/05/1997. This particular gully system has always been a haven for mature stags to inhabit. So I stalked into this unique stag with exceptional brows in September 2018.

When hunting the Hog deer, you need a lot of patience. Do your reconnaissance of the area prior to your hunting. Plan your Hunt! Always hunt downwind, and the use of good quality optics is essential to glass the coastal tea tree and grasses. filmed October 2010

ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE - Prime time for hunting the Sambar deer. Dennis Wells and myself hiked into Clear Country, Moroka River off Long Spur for a 4-5 day back pack trip back on the 18 of October 2004. Thirty years ago this type of hunting (Think Like A Deer) was virtually unheard. You could hunt and observe elusive Sambar going to bed up for the afternoon or browse their way down to the river flats...

I do enjoy hunting with the nearing of the winter! It's can be very productive, if you can withstand the harshness of the unpredictable cold and chilly weather. Over the 3 days I managed to film several good stags doing what comes naturally. Congratulations to highcountrytaxidermy46 for winning my QA. Good hunting to all

ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE - I was looking for some alpine footage on an old hard drive that we took in 2008 whilst snowing and managed to find some video footage that I thought I'd lost of a mature stag with good symmetry and excellent tops, 10th October 2010

great seeing this older footage.
Great video mate really amazing footage and great narration. thanks so much for sharing. The history of Sambar hunting in AU has to be told, shared and remembered 🙏
Much appreciated, Mauricio, I'm glad you enjoyed the old footage. Cheers Reggie
Ufff I was so relieved when I saw the chocolates! I was imagining myself doing the Taste testing! 😆😆😆
Yeah, l was just sending that subliminal message to be observant with the vegetation where the Sambar inhabit. Just some candid fun to get that message out😂
Hey might sound silly but whats the best way to figuer out a deers rout i been trying to get a big stag for 12 months now on private and i can never seem to find him only on the cams on the wallow
Gametrails, scrapes, rubtrees, wallows, etc. If you spend a considerable amount of time in an area, you will know. Year old cast antlers are excellent to inform you the symmetry of stags in that particular area and actual sightings help also.
Reg what projectiles do you run out of your 06
Hi Rod, l think l was using the 150grn Remington Corelokts? They were devastating under 100 yards. I always found the projectile under the skin on the other side.
Thanks Reg your knowledge of Sambar is mind blowing just love watching your videos .I come over from Tas your high country is beautiful I just wish I had started hunting Sambar early in my life not at 38 cheers Rod
Are we friends on Facebook? If you are, l can send you videos that aren't on my public UA-cam forum.
Hmmm Sheoak, blackberry, using all your stalking senses, very important hunting tip! 😂😂😂
At certain times throughout the year. Sambar will make a beeline to those plants that are palatable to their liking at different times of the year. There's an excellent possibility to locate the Sambar deer movements and their whereabouts.👍
I posted this to my brother as soon as I heard the slippery slop of the maw chewing down for the 'taste test' and I said 'he chomping down like he nailing liquorice all sorts'... perfection... best laugh I've had on youtube for a long time
Great to see the respect by taking out the meat 👍 Nice head
Yeah, we always recover the venison when possible. It took Klaus and l all day to recover all the salvageable venison that was possible. Cheers Reggie
Hilarious Reg! I will definitely give the ‘taste test’ demo to some young guns.
I'm glad you enjoyed the light-hearted banter. But there's a serious message in what I'm doing. Cheers Reggie👍
Hi Reg, What did you mean by the birds are a dead give away? Thanks
Hi Davo, deer use birds as an indicator to alarm them and other animals that there's an intruder nearby.
Thanks Reg. The taste test haha. You memtioned to get to know the birds - whats that about?
Hi Dave, l should have been more specific on the terminology when it came to "birds"🦅I wish, but I'm getting too old for the other type of birds😂🤣
Love your videos reg, learnt so much from your content
Loving your work 👌
nice to see you in Salomons Uncle Reg this is a great video, oozes knowledge
Yeah, Rhys, l love those Solomon's low cuts gortex runners. Best hunting footwear going around. But the deer don't like them because they don't hear you walking. Beats those clog hoppers hiking boots...
Thank you for putting the effort into making this video.
Your comment is much appreciated 👍
Hahah 😂I actually thought you were eating it for sec! And I thought that’s dedication good on him 😂😂legend Reg👍🏼
Hi Simon, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There's a little light-hearted discussion throughout the video. Pure and simple, it's my way of enjoying the moment before it comes to the serious point of my hunting. They haven't built a camera fast enough to keep up with me when the hunting is really on.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love the taste test.😂😂
Thanks, Sandgroper, just some light-hearted ad-lib about Sambar behaviour and what comes naturally 😉🤣
I bet that turns up on FB .. 😂 some one with gastro 😂😂😂
Great video Reg with some really neat footage. You almost lost me with the taste test! Too right, clean up the bush and leave only footprints behind.
Sorry Simon, l totally understand that instant moment. When l was chewing on that chocolate bullet. Actually, the message in the video is to look about, and you will see what the deer are browsing on.👍
Good to see you still putting out the educational vids mate
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully, I'm trying to get the message out to Hunters to be patient and take in everything in. The main ingredient is to enjoy those important moments whilst you are hunting. 😊👍
Nice footage Reg
Thanks, Nick, 👍👍👍
Amazing hunt.
What year would this have been ?
Great stuff Reggie. Did you neck shoot that one ? Also, what cal?
Hi Dave, it was long time ago! I know I was using the Remington BDL mountain 3006 rifle and a Remington 150grn Corelokt projectile. I think l shoulder shot this stag in 2018? Very fond memories to camp and hunt with Klaus Beck. Cheers Reggie
The classic footage is elite Reg. Keep them coming.
Yeah, Hilldog, they were good times! I wish we could turn the clock back😮
awesome Mate, love these old collections :)
Awesome stuff Reg. I really enjoyed that. Ripper head.
That was great to watch, Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Reg
Top poin brother
Brilliant footage.❤
How green was the bush back then, post fire regrowth. Certainly very dry in there now. I actually sat in your camp and had lunch this week. Funny to see this video after having just been there.
Cant wait to get in here for a hunt now looks mint, can you give 1000s more viewrs videos of your hunting spots, or just gps co ordinates would be great cheers reg
Gday Reg … another great video cheers .. my name is mark and I see you announced the winner of the sambar illustrated coffee cup . I have tried to send my contact details as in email at but it won’t send , do you have any ideas on how to contact you ? Thank again kind regards Mark
Hahaha just real as
Awesome as always Reg. I remember many many years ago calling you and getting you to post me your dvds! Watched them endlessly. Always envied Dennis getting on those trips with you back in the day!! My 8 year old son and I now still watch your dvds. Thanks again for sharing all you have to date.
Awesome! Thank you!
Fantastic stuff reg. I was only just getting into chasing sambar in 04 and was dreaming of what you were living! I must admit my niche is walking them up. There is alot more info on how to chase them now but its thanks to trail blazers like yourself.
Hi James, we were virtually camping where the deer lived 35 years ago. My love for photography gave me a different mindset to the conventional stalking methods. I needed to get close and personal to the deer to get those unique photographs and footage. Most hunters misunderstand the deer! When you are dealing with an animal that has exceptional hearing, smell, and invasive skills. They (deer) will beat you 99% of the time under fair chase pursuit. Most hunters today understand how to read deer sign, knowledge on deers movement, and the best periods to hunt. There's sh-t loads of information on media forums and magazines. But nothing is spoken about how to THINK LIKE A DEER. I'm trying my best to inform new hunters through my videos, showing them the vulnerabilities of the deer once you figure them out? Today, l still enjoy spending quality time with the deer, but it's not my primary objective when l go bush. Cheers Reggie
Yeah, Dennis, old habits die hard! I'm still wearing that pink nightie😉🤣
Great video, very informative cheers 🍻
I'm glad you enjoyed it
Sh1t my hair is a lot greyer now days and I still wear those lucky red socks on the odd hunt. Thanks for sharing mate.
awesome stuff
He winds heading up-hill via a thermal as everything heats up. I’m going to say in a NW direction. The two plants were sweet briar and blackberry. And the golden hours of course are first light and last light. Great vid Reg.
Another outstanding video, thank you for sharing.!
Great filming Reg. Thanks for sharing. Are you still running the 15X leica binos?
Yeah, I am still using the Leica 10x15-50 Duovids👍👌
Fantastic .................about time you shouted yaself a descent microphone.
It's difficult when you out and about and the elements play havoc with the microphones.
Great footage Reg... can't wait to get back up in the bush this weekend
Beautiful footage Reg! Thankyou mate 👌🏻
Great video Reg. Thanks for sharing. Still using your Sambar mugs as well mate. Great artwork 👌
