UK Motorcycle Fails - Mistakes from my First Year of Riding
Переглядів 21 тис.4 роки тому
This is a selection of near misses, mistakes, and miscalculations from my first year of riding. Some of it is inexperience, some of it is over-ambition - all of it is dangerous. Fortunately, this year has allowed me to develop my skills further and after some 5-star training from Newcastle Rider Training I now ride to a much higher standard which is definitely a life saver - probably literally!...

    The fact that you're recognising these fu;k ups is a sign that you're learning. Try looking further ahead and form a constant rolling plan of "what if's" in your head. I winced with the HGV clip. Mr hindsight says you should have dropped in behind him and then made use of that glorious overtaking opportunity on the other side of the junction. You won't do that again! I did things in my early days that still make my teeth curl to this day. Be careful out there 👍

    Brave? Foolhardy? Call it what you wish. Personally, I thought ‘the boy done good’, in the main. Although, risking life & limb for a bloody Subway! With a ‘quality baker’ next door! What were you thinking, man!🤔😉😅✌️

    thankyou for sharing this, i appreciate the honesty. im in my first year of riding and while (thank fuck) i dont have any major fuck ups so far, i definitely had a couple close calls very similar to the one where you overtook the lorry..but, we learn from our mistakes

    I honnestly think the reason ive not had an accident riding is because i started on big bikes. 1299 panigale was my 1st bike and then an aprillia mille and now an r1. Ive had many situations when you see the gap and shoot, like he did, and ive comfortably made it, but on a lesser bike i would have been in trouble. We all have our demons, and mine (like soo many riders) is seeing a gap and shooting for it, and with a 1000, you will make it no questions. As long as you dont ride peoples bumpers (and there is no need in on a 1000, you will be fine braking if you need to slow quickly

    thanks for the clip and the courage to post it. it seems to me that most of your mistakes are the result of a look that is too focused and not wide and dynamic enough. i know that 4 years have passed but somebody else can maybe benefit from this comment: try scanning everything with a view that has a purpose of picking out important/relevant changes in the environment; never just be focused on one angle/thing

    Me watching the video, pfft what idiot makes these mistakes. Me remembering I made all these mistakes when I was a nub in my first year or so of riding. Yep, we have all made these mistakes and luckily, I hope all of us, or most of us have walked, or ridden away from them without anything majorly going wrong. I had one similar to the truck and the on coming car. I went for aa gap of a car accelerating away from slow moving traffic, but there wasn't an oncoming car. There was a island in the middle of the road with lights on it and I just managed to squeeze between it and the car. Scared the shit out of myself.

    I've had to swerve around a car that entered my lane after being tired of the traffic on the exit lane, in a second I check my mirror at 50mph, see a car approaching faster than speed limit, decide to go in its lane and go around the first car. Had I had alcohol that evening Im not so sure I could have done the sporty move on a 250cc maxi scooter. Just remembered the emergency collision maneuver during my a2 and the road I learned it in. Take time to learn your bike, even if you swap for a different one, wear bright stuff, yellow reds purple pink even recommended and never speed.

    Brave to post this. From a more experienced (but far from perfect!) rider I would say calm it all down a notch, remember your lifesaver, that the bike can always lean over (safely) more than you imagine, look ahead and look where you want the bike to go. You'll have learned all this and about countersteering (another biggie for safe, faster riding) with the group you joined...

    The 1st one was not entirely your fault!! There SHOULD be road surface markings on the asphalt, huge arrows to make sure everybody know they can only go left in case they miss the sign (or the sign is obstructed by say a track when approaching it). The turn layout wasn't decisive enough either in re-inforcing the driver to only turn left.

    • @shutinyanks
      @shutinyanks 11 місяців тому

      There are 2 signs before he gets near the junction and another 2 at the junction and a further one next to junction how many signs does he need? There are also road barriers there so as a new driver/rider its most def his fault. However rookies make mistakes and not everyone is well versed on the highway code and signs as they should be when they pass the test i think more emphasis should go into that when they are doing practical lessons

    I'm afraid I didn't find anything clever or funny in this, a completely unnecessary risk. Stay at home or take the bus fella, getting mangled under a truck's wheels is never fun.

    • @bikerlad3138
      @bikerlad3138 3 роки тому

      Have you ever rode a motorcycle? not everyone can just get the bus where I live buses don’t run in early morning so if you have a night shift job and only a motorcycle and it’s abit icy what do you do just sit at home and get sick pay? If you ride sensibly it is no problem to ride in the ice just know your bike the power your lean angle and speed and you won’t have a problem no risk to those who can ride 👌

    • @SirShoX0r
      @SirShoX0r 3 роки тому

      @@bikerlad3138 Yeah, I've ridden for years. Your point would stand if his third sentence wasn't "I should take the bus". Managing your power and lean angle counts for exactly nothing if you hit a patch of black ice while being cut up by a moron with bald tyres. If you genuinely think riding in snow and ice in unnecessary circumstances such as the one shown here is 'fine' then I don't think young riders such as this lad have anything to learn from you.

    2:12. That could so easily have been a head-on. 2:45. I learned early on avoid manhole covers like the plague in the wet. Or even in the dry if they are sunken. 4:24. Always be aware of a car's blind spots. As the title says, learn from your mistakes. As regards training, when I first started riding in 1977 training wasn't compulsory but I did it anyway. One of the reasons I survived.
