If you own a Doberman or are thinking about owning one, then this channel is for YOU! Here, you will learn tips and tricks and what makes Dobermans tick. Join me as we look at the serious, the fun and everything in-between. Because there's the ordinary way, and then there's The Doberman Way!
30+ years ago, when I got my first Doberman, I knew nothing other than I thought the Breed was beautiful. But that first Doberman led me down the rabbit hole! Since then I have bred over 35 AKC Champions and more than a dozen Nationally ranked performance Dobermans, graduated as a Registered Veterinary Technician specializing in Canine Physical Rehabilitation, became a registered Professional Dog Show Handler, a Rep and Editor for multiple Doberman magazines, and authored dozens of Breed-related articles. My proudest memories are the Dobermans I helped rescue and foster, and of breeding the only quintuple AKC Champion Doberman in Breed history. But I still learn every day... - Elizabeth Barrett

Surprising Insights: What the AKC Temperament Test Can Reveal About Your Doberman!
Many people believe that Dobermans are aggressive or overly protective, but we’re here to challenge that perception! In this video, several owners take their Dobermans through the AKC Temperament Test, an objective evaluation designed to assess a dog’s temperament in various situations like navigating challenges, interacting with strangers, and responding to unexpected stimuli.
This test may challenge your notions about your Doberman's temperament, but in a good way! By the end of the video, you’ll gain valuable insights into using the test to discover the real personality of your dog, and clues on how to use it to customize its socialization and training.

Can I get this done at 8 months ?
Sorry, ears are cropped anywhere from 7 to 12 weeks of age. At this point they would never stand.
I run Canicross with my Siberian husky and originally bought the running belt for myself to wear off of Amazon. Huge mistake! It put a lot of strain on my back and caused issues throughout my whole body. Non-stop dog wear makes a great harness for the human 😅 that like she states, you do not feel. It is worth the money!! I am much more stable during our runs and you feel much more “one” with your dog.
I know your Siberian has to LOVE Canicross! Such a great outlet for that energy 💫 Your experience with the belt is so helpful- thank you for sharing it 🥰
Great idea
Right?!
Sounds like my girl Arya
Definitely not Bree though! 😂
@ she has her moments
I like it! less Doberman glitter in my bed er his bed hehe Thanks for the information!
Right?! Some of that glitter can be prickly when it's in your bed! 🌵
Part of the greatest generation. They were heroes, too. Thank you for this video to show their history.
Without a doubt!
I have a five month old German shepherd whose ears are NOT wanting to stand, they’re so floppy but they try 😂 this procedure looks fool proof and after watching a few times I’m going to buy all products so my boy can have his ears high
My girls right ear was having issue like standing in the morning then not standing in evening. I taped them couple weeks then they stood pretty good till now. Shes about 1 1/2 years old that right ear may stand an hour then bends rest of the day. Maybe once in a while stands. Am I doomed with a one ear floppy doberman. Vet would not do anything and he really left to much leather on one side then other side he has a slight dent. Thats the ear that has been giving issues. Do I go back to posting or just give up?
At one and a half years, it would be usual to gain any ground at this point. If you want, you can have a good ear crop vet either take a tuck, or do an insert. I'm sorry you had a problem with a poor crop 😟
Thank you so much for this video. It is so clear and informative. Makes the process seem approachable and less terrifying. Thank you for all you do for the breed!
Thank you for your kind words! 🤗
I don’t know where to post this so I thought I’d ask it here. Do you trim your dobi’s coat with clippers? I know they have a short coat but have heard that they are trimmed or “shaped up” for shows. If so can you do a tutorial on trimming their coat?
Actually I just filmed some grooming clips. I have some other videos in line to make/edit first, so it may be 2-3 months.
@ Thanks for responding & thanks for the upcoming videos. I’ll be watching for them!
This looks like an absolute blast to do with a dog!! I would love to do this one day!!! 🥰
It truly is the best way to spend a summer day!
@ I bet it is! I just have to get a Dobi first!! 🥰. Looking for breeders but there aren’t any reputable ones near me! 😞
Way to go Vegas !🐾🐾😊❤️😮
Thanks Rose!
Harps play... all Dobermans are angels
I used to pop them when he was like 15 months old but now I know better
I know that Dobermen’s in the show reign at least some of them are very shy and that I don’t like because they are confident working dogs
You are absolutely right! Any time I see a judge put up a shy Doberman, I let them know that doing so is a disservice to the Breed and not in keeping with the Breed's standard.
😍so smart and gorgeous!
When should i stop posting my doberman ears? Does it hurt much to go for a walk to show off the work in progress unposted?
Ma can I do ear cropping for my dulbber man off 2-3ysr old?
I did for my dog of about 2yrs but didn't work
Please can you add me to your wassup group
I will really like to know how to do this I tried it for my adult Obama my dog is an my dog is an
Hello good morning from here
Mam my dogs ear crossed over head and it's look like one ear is smaller is there any remedy pls reply soon mam
What a very good puppy! Thank you for sharing your expertise , I pick up my puppy next month and want to make sure I properly post his ears.
The trick is to do the ears after the puppy has been out playing for a good, long time, so it will be tired. Congratulations on the impending arrival!
Preservation Boxer breeder here for five+ decades. A couple of questions... 1) I have added your video to my playlist at The Dog Breeder Channel for excellent videos on posting. Please advise if I should remove it from my list. Of course your content remains intact. 2) We usually keep that natural fold intact. This is the first time I've seen it deliberately unfolded. Can you add more detail on why you unfold it? 3) was helping my holistic vets stepson post his male Dobermans ears and found that huge pocket in the bell so different from a show boxer. Our breed normally has almost no bell or pocket, so we are able to squeeze that area gently without any pocket left. How do we compensate for that pocket on a dive? Do we fill it with cotton before taping? Much gratitude for this excellent video, and feel free to add any from my channel to your playlists. I have many educational videos for breeders, and also a "" "Sound Desensitizing Loop" to help babies in the nursery to be desensitized to scary sounds and be bomb proof to them.
Looks like fun 👍👍👍
Brightens my mood just to watch!
I've watched about 30 videos. And you are the only one who unfolds the flap .. And doesn't post at 11-1. To me this is normal I have some tilting inward..
As I mentioned at the start, there are dozens of ways to post. This is just what has worked for me after years and years of trial and error. If you have tilting inward, be sure to use the padding to push out the pocket, use a solid bridge, and don't post straight up and down. Good luck with your puppy!
@@TheDobermanWay I meant my comment in a positive way.. I'm not sure which part i. I'm pushing out? Is it the indention the fold makes? Any pictures of it? What do mean don't post up and down? Ty 😁
Is that dog stoned
LOL! Actually there are multiple puppies used in this video. The key is to do posting after they've been out playing for a good long time so they're tired. 😄
What if the ears and bridge keep falling forward?
If you will email me at Elizabeth.TheDobermanWay@gmail.com, I will email you back a short video on how to try to correct that.
Thank you very much for the infos!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello! Looking for some advice! We somehow managed to post our previous dobermans ears with just tape and no posts, under the instruction and help of our vet. They turned out beautiful and I truly dont know how it worked without posts but it did! Have you heard of this method? She has retired and moved away and now with our second dobie we are struggling to get our previous vet’s method to work. Our new dobie is now 4 months old. I want to start trying your method because the tape only method doesn’t seem to be working with him. We have been posting for 2 months and only one ear slightly stands while the other still completely flops over halfway through. Is it too late having them not really stand at 4 months old and after two months of posting? So worried because I cant find any information or tutorials using just tape as our previous vet did so now im thinking of venturing out to other methods! Any help you can provide is appreciated more than you know!!!
Interesting about the tape-only working. My guesses why that worked would be a short crop, thin ear leather, or a combination of both. Anyway, to your question- most definitely jump in there and start posting with posts! Be consistent and persistent, for at least 3 months- zero down time between postings unless you absolutely have to due to a wound.
Did you end up getting Stella’s retest results a month later?
Let me follow up on that! If I don't respond by Sept 15th, please remind me again!!
Very sweet little baby
Thanks!
Just ordered one Thanks new to the page also what shampoo do you use??
Hi, sorry for the delay, I was actually working on negotiating a discount for my viewers with the company whose products I use. While it isn't much, 10% is better than nothing these days! So I use One Stray Hair brand. Their Wicked Black Toning Shampoo works great on blacks and reds, while not staining your hands or cuticles as other black shampoos do. I also love their Wicked conditioner, but they are trying to find a new manufacturer for that product right now. You can find them here www.onestrayhair.com/?ref=wrteldvh and use code DOBERMANWAY to save 10%
Anyone have tip on how to get a puppy to hold still while doing this?
I was told to leave the fold in the ear..what do I do!?
I was told the same thing when I started learning how to post ears. But after many instances of puppies having ears go over their head, I learned about taking the fold out. Ever since, I've never had a problem. That's not to say that leaving the fold in will cause a problem, but this is the best way that I know, and the one that I've had success with for many years.
Beautiful dogs 👍🏴❤️
Indeed!
Great video as a former Marine I appreciate the history and the breed, thanks for the upload.
No video I have done moved me like this one did. Thank you for watching and for your service to the country 🇺🇲
Great video
Thanks for the feedback, and for watching!
I just followed you on social media I plan on getting a dobie soon. You seem very educated and experienced on this breed so I hope I can message you if I have any questions. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! @TheDobermanWay
How can you tell when you don’t have to tape anymore?
So I don't have to retype the whole thing, please scroll down and find my response to @KatieMarie similar question. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very helpful and detailed information!!❤
Good luck with your puppy!
what a nice job
Thank you!
Why do so many other breeders say not to tape the ear against its natural fold even if vets do it that way?
30+ years ago, I was taught by my mentor to wrap with the fold. But over the years, I would have puppies with those deep pockets which simply did not respond well to that wrapping style. Perhaps 10+ years ago I picked up the 'open the flap' taping and it was a game changer. No ears crossing over the head since then. As I mentioned at the start of the video, there are dozens of ways to post ears, but this is what has worked for me and my clients. Thanks for watching!
@@TheDobermanWay Thank you for replying
Of course, anytime!
I feed a raw diet using the Dr. Harvey’s base mixes Raw Vibrance, Paradigm, and Veg-to-Bowl, rotating protein I source at the grocery store, and healthy oils I also source at the grocery store. I occasionally feed a raw chicken paw, or treat with gullet sticks or pizzle sticks that are single ingredient. Her diet is grain-free, but, occasionally, when visiting family, she’ll sneak some of those dog’s Kibble. I am considering adding the base mix Canine Health to the rotation, which is a grain inclusive diet.
Providing it's well balanced, I'm all for raw diets! Sounds like you have a blend of good bases that you're working with.
That's my girl Gypsy Rose 🌹 💖
If only we humans could enjoy things with such abandon! Thanks Jimmy!
Could it happen from digging in the backyard. I clean my dog bowl atleast everyday ir every other day. My baby terrier doberman mix.
If he/she is also snuffling around in the holes, potentially causing micro scratches on the chin from rocks, roots and such, then absolutely!
Direct me to source this ball; just what my grand dog needs.
The ones pictured are simply yoga balls for humans. As such, if you have a dog that wants to bite the ball, it's not going to last. For the link below, I would suggest the pink or turquoise colors- the other colors are going to get hot to the touch in the sun. And I'd opt for one that is 26" or larger. amzn.to/4eLV6Bx
Mine is currently on incurin and is working so far. If it stops working Proin will be next😊thanks for the info.
That's great! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this info! One of my dogs has been taking Proin for years and it is pretty expensive.
This is fabulous news! I pay $166 for a 180 count bottle of Proin at Allivet which was the best price I could find.
This should help ease a lot of budgets!
