C2's & K5's
Приєднався 20 сер 2008
I started this channel to help others learn to repair or perform routine maintenance of there older cars. I'm no mechanic, but I learned a lot from my father. There reason this channel is called C2's and K5's is because I own a 1967 C2 Corvette and a 1989 K5 Chevy Blazer.
My father purchased the Corvetter new in 1967 and has since passed it on to me. I've also loved Chevy Blazers since I was a little kid riding in my uncle's early 70's Blazer.
I hope you enjoy watching me repair and restore these old Chevys.

Electric steering install on my 1970 Chevy C10
Here is the installation video where I add electric steering assist to my Chevy C10 truck. In the video, I cover installation and test drive. This is also my first attempt at welding and fabricating a mounting bracket for the electric motor. I spent right about $230 for the electric motor and materials. The 3/4 Double-D coupler from johnnylawmotors.com is no longer available unfortunately.

1970 Chevy C10 rear brakes
Переглядів 2085 місяців тому
I recently replaced the front brakes on the C10 and now it's time to change out the rear brakes. There was a leak in the brake line that follows the frame rail all the way to the back. I replaced the two hard brake lines and hose to that connects the both rear brake hubs.
Alpine stereo parking brake fix
Переглядів 3246 місяців тому
After installing this Alpine ILX-650 in my 1970 Chevy C10, I noticed some functions weren't accessible. Due to a safety feature that connects to the parking brake, I was unable to change setting like the clock. This bypass switch allows you to fix this issue. It is very unsafe to watch videos on a stereo like this so do it at your own risk. www.ebay.com/itm/273934327687?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=7...

To start off, I'm not a mechanic. I learned from my dad and working on cars myself. I wanted to share how you can replace brake cylinders and shoes on your Chevy. This truck has one ton axles for rock crawling. This is not the stock size for either. Normally you can look up what parts you need by the year, make and model number. Sometimes it isn't that easy as I found out. Please feel free to l...

Horns are for the weak
Well done man, Finally EPS in the Chev truck, first video. I got a complete Corolla 2013-2019 steering and thinking about installing it in my 1979 K20 Chev truck. As I have not seen anyone has done this conversion on Chev truck, I have been hesitant and also the truck is still not finished. I would like to hear about an update six months down the track. Good job👍
Thanks! I'm glad this helps. Definitely will do a followup video.
I believe I had to shave off some of the yellow plastic on the sending unit to get the connector to seat properly. Also I did this same job last summer and now having to do it again. This time I bought nos rubber ring and cam lock hoping for better results.
I hope the NOS parts work better for you!
Nice video! Can I ask you how much total time (real life) you have into this instal?
This was my first install ever. I'd say it was about 30-40 hours. Lots of learning as you go, lots of test fitting and some modifying. My second one on my C10 went much faster.
Thanks for the video. I'm installing a new GM-style tilt column with an aftermarket wheel and hub adapter. This will help give me a general idea of the process.
Glad to help!
Sorry the corvette
Sure thing!
Really enjoy your channel is there anyway you could go through the way the fan and air vent controls operate I have a 1965 coup
Are you talking about the controls on the c10 or the corvette?
It didn’t work for me my wire just started s twisting itself instead of rolling the window down do you know a solution
If the drive cable is twisting but the window doesn't move, try moving the latch on drivers side like I did. If it still doesn't work and you have power to the motor, maybe the cable is seized inside. You may need to buy a new one.
Remove the entire glove box, which 😊makes things easier.
This is a really good video and done well 👏 Thanks for making and sharing it . I'm prepping to do this job soon .
Thanks! I'm glad this helped you!
Great video. You help the C2 community immensely with your videos. Thanks
Thank you!
I remember when my dad bought a new 1967 Corvette. Yellow. Just like yours. Best year ever for Vettes
Lots of great memories with your dad I'm sure!
Hey just wanted to TY if not for seeing you get that old one in i would have gave the F up!! I thought it would be EZ to put original back in my 67
You're very welcome! Glad it helped you.
were these bumpers the original ones or were new reproduction bumpers?
I'm not certain if they are original or not. I know originals will fit better than reproduction bumpers.
I'm pretty sure they are original
show drain plug on a C2 corvette Coupe
Where is the gas drain plug on 1966 Corvette
I'm not sure on a 66. It should be the same as a 67 but I've never worked any 66's. To drain the fuel, you'll have to remove the sending unit or the hose that connects to it. It's messy but the only way it can be done.
While you had the door panel off. You missed a great opportunity to clean up the window tracks. Lube them. Also clean inside the door for debris. And while your at it...replace the plastic door weather seal that looked worn out. If you ultrasonic those door lock mechanisms with hot water and detergent. They come out awesome.
Thanks for the info. I'll try that next time.
I have a 64 with an after market radio that either doesn't work or the speakers are bad. I pulled the radio out with about 25 wires attached to it. Now I need to buy a radio but can't get to the speakers to replace them. What did you say regarding blue tooth. Is there a way to eliminate the original speaker. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I currently use a cheap Bluetooth speaker I got on Amazon for $20. There are companies that sell original looking stereos that have AF/FM with Bluetooth built it. There are some that will rebuild your original radio (if you have it) and add Bluetooth to it. Then you would still have to replace your dash speaker. It's not the easiest job, but is do-able. I recommend a cheap Bluetooth speaker for the meantime. If you want to replace the stereo, replace it with a Bluetooth capable unit. Then put in a good dash speaker since you're already in there.
@@beneddy75 That will solve major work for me and keep me from buying a radio that would require me replacing the old speaker. Thank you so much for getting back to me quickly.. I will also need to figure out how to get the antenna up, I think it originally was activated by the radio. I can just put a normal one on I hope.
Great video on the sending unit replacement. Can you give a little detail on what you did for flushing/cleaning the tank? I have some crud in the tank of my ‘70 coupe and the sock filter is not on the sending unit. My filter at the carburetor keeps getting plugged up. I want to remove the sending unit and install the sock and put it all back together. I also need to flush the debris out of the tank but really, really do not want to go through all of the hassle of dropping the tank, etc. If there is a viable flushing option that doesn’t require dropping the tank, that’s what I would prefer to do. Thanks.
I would empty the tank completely and remove the sending unit. From there you could put a hose from your shop vac and try to remove any debris. You could also use a air gun from your air compressor to blow crap out. wrap a rag or towel around the end of you gun tip and stick it in the opening from the filler next. It might blow debris out the sending unit hole. I would also blow out the fuel line to the fuel pump with compressed air. Replace the fuel filter for good measure.
Where did you find the parts for the tailgate rebuild? I’ve got a 1978 K5 Blazer and need find parts. Any suggestions?
I got all my parts from LMC trucks website. There are other websites also. Usually find the same price everywhere you look. I'm a big fan of rockauto.com. They may not have all the tailgate pieces but they have name brand stuff for very good prices!
Hope that repo sending unit works better than mine and others does
It's been working great! Unfortunately everything is made in China.
What VA kit did you buy??
There should a kit for all of these but I don't see it. Here are the numbers I have: 751170 Ac kit 021567 condenser with drier 146037 compressor bracket 473266 control panel conversion kit
Nice addition!
Worken on a k5 with majestic chainsaw noises in the background..pure manliness
Yea but if you do any kind of offroading and hit those, you'll bend up everything ! And to repair it is really expensive!
My ball bearings fell out when I slid the bearing housing off. Now I need new bearings. Do I buy the housing with the beating in it?
If I remember correctly, I got a new bearing and placed it in the housing. Then I drilled and tapped a few sides to placed a set screw. The side of the bearing wall has a low spot the set screws hold to. Zip-corvette.com has the bearing for $23.
I can try to send you a picture of mine. UA-cam won't let me.
thanks for the video! i will rebuild mine as well
I'm glad it helps you. Lots of other tailgate videos on UA-cam also!
This is great. How about a dash lights replacement video?
I already put them in but I will try to do it in the future
Great video. I have a manual crank on my blazer. I fought with my tailgate for weeks just before you posted this, and got the whole crank mechanism and latches rebuilt, but gave up on the window. I'm just getting back to it and both the side tracks are bent to hell. Hopefully that'll finally solve the problem. So the side rails have any sort of rubber track? Or does the bottom track just slide through the sides metal on metal?
The side tracks have a felt liner like in the doors. They're easy to install too!
My overpriced Snapon drift punch set finally has a purpose. And why is it always the passenger side lock?
I know! You'd think the driver side would go first.
@@beneddy75 Probably because of non 80's kids thinking it's all automatic or voice controlled.
Great job. Will help a lot on my 76 Suburban tailgate. My original motor doesn’t work, picked up another tailgate with a motor. If that doesn’t work I’m switching to manual. Your video will help. Thanks for posting it.
I'm glad it helps
I’m trying to figure out why I have no brake lights on my 65 corvette. I’ve replaced the fuse block all fuses new. Also replaced the turn signal switch. Taillights work turn signals work. Any ideas?
Look under the dash where the brake pedal goes up. There is a pressure switch that engages when you push the pedal. When you release the pedal it pushes the plunger in turning off the brake lights. My guess is that's bad.
if you have manual brakes there's also a spring for the switch
I love this video. When I bought my Vette, it had an after market radio because the original one did not work. The doofus who owned the vehicle before me got rid of a lot of original parts. They saved the original radio and I had it reconditioned. I need to install it. I am missing that large bolt on the right hand side. It was thrown away of corse. Your video is perfect for me! I am also needing to remove the vents to get at a screw for the console that is underneath the vent on the driver's side. Another win for me, thanks to you!
Your very welcome!
I need this!!! Im 5’5 and having a hard time getting in my Blazer lol
It was pretty easy and I think I paid about $45 for the pair.
@@beneddy75 it looks easy.. thanks for the video!
How do I do the the opposite way mine won’t go up so I can’t get to the motor it’s welded in and I don’t wanna break the glass
Fixed mine today after 12 years!! 😂 My window would only go down also. The driver side latch has a safety switch that doesn’t allow you to roll it up unless the tailgate is closed. Even with mine closed it wouldn’t go up unless I pushed extremely hard on the tail gate to get the plunger switch to make contact. I tore the whole latch assembly apart and found that the rod of the plunger switch had slipped to the side of the latch and would not depress when the latch was closed. I bent the mounting bracket on the plunger switch which kicked the plunger rod back in line with the latch. Now when the latch hits the sticker, it depresses the plunger switch allowing the window to roll up FINALLY!
How do I do the the opposite way mine won’t go up so I can’t get to the motor it’s welded in and I don’t wanna break the glass
Thank you for this video I have to replace the turn signal part and I think the bearing. I have looked all over for information and came across this video it is excellent it is exactly what people that have never done this job need. I’ll be back after I finish the job. Thanks again
Thank you!
Poor video
I have a 64 and have removed and replaced the radio so I know what a pain it is! I didn't have to remove the little duct though. I watched you and I knew how you were going to have to slant it to get it in. It took me a while to figure it out too. I also have gone to the LED lights and they make the instruments actually readable at night. Thanks for your effort to help other C2 owners!

@Mike Few from Zip Corvettes website. Glad this helped you!

It was the sure fit system.i called Vintage Air and they instructed me on that system.
Do you have the part#? I have an 89 k5 and I’m trying to make sure I get the correct unit. I had a guy tell me today that the surefit for the 87 models won’t work.

Wow! This is impressive! I feel like I now know a celebrity! Too bad you learned none of this from your mom.
Sure looks much more involved than I remember my 1973 k5 rear brakes being. That 1 ton axle makes it much harder. Good Video!
It was, thanks!
I got a 86 blazer and used the drill trick for a little and it actually broke it and my windows stuck down now do you know what that little wire is called and if I could get another?

Thanks for the video. Totally helped me out.

@@beneddy75 i second this thank you very much
I’ve had the worst luck with my tailgate. I’ve literally spent about $1000 on it and still doesn’t work! Not even kidding. Question for you. It looks like you have a new regulator. Did you tighten all the bolts down hand tight all the way? My window doesn’t work and I noticed when I loosened the bolts on the regulator it kind of worked
My regulator is new and was tightened all the way. Maybe your side tracks are out of alignment.
@@beneddy75 I didn’t even consider this. Thank you for your input!
