    I have found its more convincing to run two singles in series for the HB tone than splitting an HB for single coil tone. My tele is set up that way. I do not have the 10way but I do have phase in/out and it comes in handy. Now if I could throw a mid boost and a TBX on that, that would cover a lot of ground. But I wont be selling my 335 anytime soon.

      Thanks for sharing this. When Don Lace sent this PG setup I was thinking this 10-Way switch was something new but I see they have been around for a while. Lace Music did a great job of mixing these with the Lace pickups and the two tone/blending pots. They also are using this with other Lace pickups like the Blue, Silver Red combo and some others.

      I have been dealing with Strat Plus guitars since 1999. Long story how I get into this, but it is just a hobby! Over the years I bought parts, also tore apart guitars that were bad deals, you know, buy a guitar off of ebay or reverb to find out the seller was less than honest and the guitar was damaged. There is a lot of that with online purchases. So I end up keeping the guitar after an agreed settlement, and then tear it apart for parts, selling some and some going under my bench. Comes in handy when I need to replace parts.

    Great vid! I've two Plus Deluxe models, 1990 & 1993. Love Lace Sensors!!!! However, fender kinda beat Lace to it, with their S1 switch they've been using for years now. I bought the first Strat Plus I saw, new in October of ‘87. It had to have been one of the earliest ones. It had an E4 serial number- some of those had E4 numbers, but that model didn’t come out until ‘87. I’ve even seen them on dealers’ stock lists as ‘84 models, but there’s really no such thing. It was the best Strat I’ve ever had; unfortunately, I traded it in, in ‘92, to get a Custom Shop Strat. The Custom Shop’s a very nice guitar, but that Strat Plus was exceptional. Those second-generation Tele Pluses are cool though; I’ve never actually seen one, but I got the successor to it in ‘98-an American Deluxe Tele, in white-blonde, with tortoiseshell pickguard and top binding. I still have that one!

      This will work on most Strat type guitars, but realize the mounting holes for pickguard may vary. This has the American 11-hole mounting. Mexican Strats may be slightly different. So on some guitars you might have to drill new holes in the body.

    In 1993 I took my son to buy him his first Strat at our local dealer. If I remember correctly the Strat Plus was more expensive than the American Standard, which was all I could afford. My son was enthralled by the colour of the Blue Burst Strat Plus as illustrated in one of the pictures (2nd row 2nd in from left) at the beginning of this video. The dealer kindly swopped the body with a Standard Strat for my enthusiastic 11 year old son’s birthday. He was ecstatic. So he got his American Standard with non standard a Blue Burst colour. So here we are, 31 years later, my son still has this guitar, & he is Head of Music Technology at a College. A little kindness from the guitar industry goes a long way.

    • @xhefriguitars7946
      @xhefriguitars7946 21 день тому

      Thanks for sharing this. You bring up an interesting point, and that was the fact that the dealer swap bodies for you. When talking with the guys at Fender that worked there for years and years, one of them, a friend of mine started the database that Fender is currently using to keep track of the serial numbers and the Guitars. I was explaining to a guy who bought a guitar from me recently how inaccurate that was especially pre-1992. I explained to him that there was a lot of fat fingering going on with the entries of the data, mistakes in the serial numbers being typed in, and then there was the situation where the database would say the guitar should be a certain color only to find out that the dealer swap bodies with another guitar. Sometimes people don't realize things like that happen, but it's actually not uncommon especially back in those years. And I can also say your son has good taste because that's a beautiful color!

    • @denbodg9311
      @denbodg9311 21 день тому

      @@xhefriguitars7946 Yes I agree. Nowadays some people would frown on that guitar not being “authentic” when in fact I think Leo would have applauded it. For example, here in the UK, dealers would refinish new Strats in Fiesta Red to accommodate the Hank Marvin popularity as Strats were only trickling into the country in the early 60’s. The Blue Burst colour was very unusual for the times and very modern looking. Incidentally, I have 4 Strats, 3 Vintage reissues from 1982-2022 & a 2022 Professional 2 in Dark Knight which is a similar Blue Burst. My 1982, ‘57 Reissue is all authenticated original, but it has 2 grey bottom dated pickups and a black bottom bridge pickup with 21 written on it which is also period correct. I have come across a guy who owns the same model in another part of the country whose reissue has 2 black pickups & a dated grey bottom bridge pickup. Figure that one out 😁👍

      This is a big question. Some people swear that the older Lace Sensors had the best tone, like 1987-1990. But the truth is, I can't tell the difference. Sometimes you get a guitar and for some reason it sounds and plays better than the others. But this is random and I call it MOJO... I can have 3 of the same guitars, same color, same fretboard, and two will play nice and the 3rd will have MOJO....I can't explain it!

      Sometimes I tune a guitar different to learn or play along with a song because the song was written and recorded with an alternate tuning. I will let you know if my hypothesis works. Thanks for this video!💯 6:19 “halfway from where the starting point was”? Are you indicating compressing the block to 1/16” or 1/8” from the deck? I think a shim block would be a helpful tool in setting that preload spring tension btw.😇 This setting is critical! Too much forward or backward angle on the saddles make for unstable tuning. 💯😇

    • @xhefriguitars7946
      @xhefriguitars7946 Місяць тому

      Hey, Thanks for the post! Anyhow when it was de-tuned to 33hz the gap on the back of the bridge is 1/4 inch. The you pull the bridge down and then tightening the set screw on the Tremsetter, the bridge is about 1/8 inch from the deck. This is what I was meaning. So then that set screw is tighten, the bridge will be near perfect and the guitar will even be nearly spot on in tune at 440hz!

My Ultra doesn't have a seam on the top, unlike a couple of others. The serial number is N9, which I would put as 1999, but obviously, it's an early '90s guitar. I read something about these serial numbers somewhere. Also, the lack of a string tree makes the Ultra models different.

    I have been in love with Strat Pluses since I graduated in 1989. I specifically love the models with maple fretboards. I just picked up a 1989 Plus Deluxe. I was lucky for it to have included the original inspection tag, lace-sensor booklet, fender booklet, tremolo springs, trem setter installation instructions, vintage fender strap and cord (never played), fender sticker, original case (no scratches on chrome pegs). Weight is 9.3 lbs. (Love the heavy ones).Thank you for your attention to detail and sharing your knowledge.

    Hi, great video! Which strings are you using? .10s? Does it make a difference for this Tremsetter setup procedure if I have .09s on my Strat? Thanks, cheers, Ecco

      I was using .09s in the video. This same technique would work for .10s as well. One might just have ti play with the screw adjustments a little. I should have stated that I was using .09s in the video. I did this off the cuff...

    When I saw 'Simple and Easy' I didn't bother watching because I needed an in-depth understanding of the tremsetter. So far, this video has answered more of my questions than any of the others. When you're applying pressure between the little spring, and the trem block 5:00, are you applying equal pressure? Like applying the same pressure on the trem block as the pressure to depress the little spring? I have an 89 Strat plus and have never messed with the tremsetter, but trying to do a deep dive setup. Thanks.

      @xhefriguitars7946 3 місяці тому

      Hey glad this helped. I was purposely trying to stay away from too much detail because then it complicates the process. But when I squeeze the set screw, caller, and the end of the spring, the tensions the same on both ends because I'm just squeezing them together. Main thing is going from the the bridge to the deck from a quarter inch to 1/ 8th inch gap. On the back. What you need to be careful about is doing a deep dive set up when the trim set might be already set properly. So many people hate these things because they get messed up and then they don't work properly and so they get frustrated and pull them out. That's why I made this video so people can see a simple way to get these locked in properly.

    What do you mean "when a guitar is properly tuned everything is at 440"? Each string is a different frequency and the top E(4) is 229.63 Hz. When you started to raise the bridge from the deck by loosening the screws, was the guitar initially tuned to standard tuning before you started? My '95 Strat Plus is hard decked and I would like to re-install the hipshot. This video did not help.

    • @xhefriguitars7946

      If you have a guitar tuner with a meter on it you will see that the center of the meter is 440 hz. If you use a guitar tuners that has digital color then green is 440hz and red is either flat or sharp. In the video I am using a Korg tuner. See: cdn.korg.com/us/products/upload/6ca64a4f932ca71b9865ee77d28f389d_pc.jpg So when I say tune the guitar to 430hz, all the strings are about a step flat. Very easy video to follow if you have a guitar tuner that shows the 440 hz meter. You could even use a tuner that is a stomp box or built in to a guitar mutli-effect unit with a built in tuner. Just tune all the strings flat in the red about two or three LED lights. A perfectly tuned guitar, every string will be 440 hz.

      @@xhefriguitars7946 OK. I understand what you are saying, just tune the guitar a few cents flat. Thanks, I'll give it a go. As you probably know, there is no open string on the guitar that is 440Hz. The Korg tuner shows '440' because this is the reference pitch (pitch standard) that it is set to... 440 Hz for A4 which became the reference standard in western music in the late 1800's. Most good tuners will allow the user to adjust the reference pitch to whatever they choose. Also, as you I'm sure you know, there is no such thing as a perfectly tuned fretted stringed instrument (even if the instrument is well intonated). In fact, it's undesirable for a fretted stringed instrument to be 'perfectly' tuned and intonated as this 'slightly off tuning' is part of what gives any given instrument it's characteristic sound. e.g. Telecasters with three brass saddles... some people hate them because they never sound in tune... but that's part of what gives them their characteristic sound!

      @@peternigelproduction Glad you figured that out. I was going to try to explain the difference between universal pitch and individual string vibration, but it just gets complicated. Sounds like you Googled it. But yes, tune the guitar's pitch flat a step and then after doing what I explained it should already be close to dialed in at 440.

      @@xhefriguitars7946 LOL.. I think just saying "tune each string a few cents flat" would have been clearer (at least to me). I didn't need to 'Google it' as I've been dabbling in music and with guitars for 45+ years! OMG... am I really that old :( ...also built a few acoustics over the last 10. As you know, there is a Hipshot video out there with Dave Borisoff describing the process, but it's so old the quality is awful and he makes the whole process seem over complicated! Thanks for the video anyway. You've probably come across those folks who believe that 432 as the reference pitch is superior to 440? More 'healing' and 'meditative'... more consistent with the patterns of the Universe?

    • @xhefriguitars7946
      @xhefriguitars7946 3 місяці тому

      @@peternigelproduction Through my alien connections we are sure that 432 is the best reference pitch for the universe. If I could just get our keyboard player to change his keys we would be in good shape.... ;-) Maybe this is why Jimi Hendrix sometimes tuned his guitar down a step... but joking aside the reason I used 440 as a reference point is that it’s common on all meter tuners and the amazing thing is when you tune to 430 and then make this adjustment you’ll find that you’re almost perfectly in tune, and the trim setter set at the exact right setting.
