Getting Crisp Clean Edges when staining a multi-layer Guitar!
Are those Schaller 455/456 bridges? Or someone's take off? I am in desperate need of that specific bridge. Please let me know.
I do use the Schaller….almost impossible to find! I have even bought used ones and had them replated in Nashville. I spent as much as 600 for these because of the rarity
I am so glad I saw this video on my feed. I found my dads old floyd and got some new strings for it, didn't know how to set up the action but it was tolerable. With this video I can go back and do some fine tuning. Only issue is that every time I try to push the bar towards the neck it just doesn't seem to budge but works fine when I pull it back.
Sounds like the Floyd is tipping way forward and the tension isn’t set properly.
I went there yesterday for the first time. Amazing place!
It really is!
Wow!!! I was SO impressed with the acoustic guitar finish. I love looking at antiques. The electronics were very interesting to watch. It brought back my memories of when I was like 8 years old taking everything apart or breaking it to see how it worked. Great video! Keep them rolling!
Thanks
Your videos have turned into my new HGTV. HGTV portrays these perfect flawless projects and they hardly show the reality of their projects. I will remember the words of wisdom of walk away when you want to rush artistry.
Ah….yes I’m good at making mistakes!
My ideas for a vibrating plate is maybe get a vibrating exercise plate. You can adjust the speed of vibrations with a remote.
Question. When you adjust height, isn't it a bit harmful for the knife edges if you do it with tension on them? More so on a cheaper floyd? Or is it ok to do it like so? I did notice interestingly enough the second time you just removed the back springs (nice move imo.) I'd be nice to see how you did it
Thanks! It’s interesting how this one point has raised more controversy on my videos than any other. Some argue that it absolutely destroys it! Others argue that it’s been proven that it doesn’t….maybe if you do it a lot! I do typically loosen the tension….I think it’s probably better. But it does make me wonder if it could be much harder on them than doing lots of dive bombing…there would be a lot of pressure on the same surface and there is movement even when using the trem.
Absolutely eye opening, thanks a bunch!
My pleasure!
I don't know about now because I haven't checked in years, but on eBay a seller used to sell beautiful ukuleles made in Vietnam with beautiful workmanship and inlay work. I don't know how good they sound but they were beauties.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
thankyou excellant job thankyou very very much nice work i learned how to tune my grandson new flying v, esp intonation work great job sir
I’m glad it helped. You’re a great grandpa!
I'm bulding my guitar from machined parts. I can't use templates to drill the cavities so I was wondering if there are some sheets with mesurements that could be used? I only found mesurements for string spacing and such, none for the cavities
Wow. Yeah I’m not sure. I do everything by hand.
Wow!! What a beautiful coat! I love the artwork of the flowers. Mr. X is right. Creating a masterpiece takes time. If you don't take the time and have fun doing it, it will not turn out. I personally do paintings and if I don't take time and have fun doing it they look pretty bad. The inlay design looks great!
Thanks for the encouragement
Good price. I would probably buy one with a brand name, even if it's Vietnam made. Brand name suggest the builder has pride in his products.
Looks and sounds great 👍. I personally would do no black guard. My artist mind says less is more.
Someone that paid attention in math, physics and shop classes. It was a pleasure to see common sense in action.
Thanks
I want one pleeeeeeeaaaaaaseeee. How much please ?
Thanks so much for your encouragement! Glad to know people appreciate the work of these guitars…most people comment on the Prince Style guitars, but I was quite pleased how these turned out.
I’m right there with you about lifting the blind and unfortunately I didn’t look at my ticket last year on my way to Thailand and I got the seat over the wing and I was gutted and on the journey back they put me in the middle seats . Next time I’ll specify where I seat. Great talk you gave there mate. All the best to you. Xxx
Thank you for commenting and taking time to share that.
I really enjoyed seeing the older acoustic guitar.
Very enlighten. My first paint job, using dupli/color.
Very nice finish! I love how the color changes depending on how the light hits the guitar.
Incredibly huge store. I have never been but every time I order online I get a call to make sure all is ok with what I purchased. They really work hard to make sure you are taken care of. They have also answered questions about products I have that I didn't buy from them but they were helpful in getting it set up. Class act company and team.
I’m glad you’ve had a great experience with them! I’ve really enjoyed working with them.

Beautiful video of love for others! To be able to bless people with a chair of love must have been incredible. I would have had troubles with crossing the road. It defies all laws of my crossing guard thinking. Thanks for posting your adventure in Vietnam!
It's pretty amazing! Thanks!
Question what is that drill extension called ? U can use it to fit in small tight spots thanks great videos
Great question! Not sure if I saw an official name, but I use this thing all the time. Probably just call a 90 degree flex extension.
Wow factor going on. I love the cave! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
you're a cool dude-dude!
Thanks….cool for a knucklehead anyway 😜
So glad I watched this video. It gave me a different perspective on making mistakes. Dinner sounds great! I love Alfredo! I thought the purplish wood was really beautiful.
Excelent video, superb manual for a floyd rose setup. Good work. I have a similar guitar, a Dinky Reverse MIJ.
Cool, thanks!
Hi, my guitar has the hole for the posts bigger so my posts lean forward, can i fix it the same way you did with a dowel?
You probably could. It will take some work but can be done.
Wow! Those guitars look really nice!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Thank you! Watching from Central Texas
Thanks for watching!
Do you have the address for those guitar shops in Sàigòn?? Thank you 🙏
They are all lined up on Nguyen Thien Thuat street ... if you look up guitar street you will find them. Thanks for watching! I loved this trip.
@ I was come from that area before 1975 in Saigon , I knew that area so well. Thank you 🙏
Wow this has to be one of the best videos on setting up a Floyd rose I've come across thanks man this has helped me with setting up mine!!!
Thanks so much ! I’m glad it helped. To clarify something…it is proper to raise or lower the post After taking tension off the strings.
bla bla bla....you talk too much. stop and just do it. waste my time
This is the exact guitar I just bought at a pawn shop for $80! Perfect video for me!
Hey that’s awesome!
You git that setup with hsh and Floyd for 80$????? You got a steal my friend
Super happy with the guitar, slowly replacing FR parts with stainless Kashi from Amazon as strings slip. Mine is Performer, not Concept.
This is one of those tasks that I always dread but have not considered a repeatable jig for. Thank goodness for this video.
Thanks so much for letting me know! Really glad it was beneficial for you!
I am in the process of setting up a Floyd Rose and I found this to be very helpful. Well done.
Hey thanks so much for your encouragement. One thing to add is that in this video I forget to mention that you should take tension off the strings before raising or lowering the posts.
Great video, sir!
Thank you kindly!
Can you do mine, whats the charge? I can get mine all apart and send you the body.
Cardinal sin number one: Never adjust the studs without removing the tension from the Floyd. Grooves cut into them and you will notice a click and it goes out of tune. Only titanium studs can take adjustment under tension. Also they make two tools (the key and skyscraper ) to put under the fine tuner/saddle to properly adjust the intonation 🤟. I've been pissing around with these since 1988 😂
That's not true All the guitar makers adjust the string height at full tension at the factory. The chief of research and development of Ibanez USA literally said it won't harm the knife edgesxand hesset up thousands of them There's no way these guitar companies would be ruining their guitars at the factory This urban myth refuses to go away,it's a real pity
Thank You!
You're welcome!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Nice to see a fellow Minnesotan working through the cold conditions.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. WOuld have like to see a discussion of how to fix fret buzz when you get the string height down to where it's comfortable/fast.
You can watch my video on fret fall away for some ideas.
Why didnt you sand the back of the headstock? Sanding down the front after that finish seems scary.
Well that’s because I tried to first not sand any of it by counter sinking the top washer. But even though I carefully ran the drill so it wouldn’t pull up on the wood, I still got some chip out….and that’s what I needed to fix
I would definitely use a block underneath the tail of the bridge while restringing it. It'll save you the whole tuning it, retuning and retuning it over and over again. Definitely loosen the string tension before adjusting the bridge posts. There's a tool for about $20 that's made specifically for a Floyd to do the intonation which lets you get completely exact with that process which is great. Lastly you can put the strings in backwards from the tuning keys on the headstock going back towards the bridge and that works great except for the high e string usually which you will need to string normally to avoid it snapping at the ball end. Excellent video though brother
Thanks! Good advice!
Wrong. No need to loosen string tension before adjusting string posts. This is an urban myth, and it's been debunked.
Who debunked?@@anpleidhceeireannach9498
@cadebrown2092 Jim Donohue, former head of Ibamez custom shop,in a book by renowned luthier Dan Erlewine, and the manufacturer, Floyd Rose,in all of their official instructional literature
@@anpleidhceeireannach9498 good information. I just did a setup on my dinky and didn't loosen the strings while lowering the bridge.
Awesome job. Thank you for the Video!
Thanks for watching!
I found your videos and enjoy them quite a bit and love the work that you do, I have been wanting to get into guitar building myself but have limited knowledge and tools to be able to do it. Saying hello from Missouri.
Thanks much for letting me know!
@@letsbuildaguitar9230 Hey there! I hope all is going well with you and your family, haven’t seen any videos from you in a long, long, long time. Hope everything is OK! I posted a couple of new build videos since last year. My own custom built PRS. And my custom Sunburst tiger with my favorite colors.
What size of a downward spiral bit?
I have multiple sizes that I use.
Great video! My wife got me a strat kit about a year ago. Just about ready to start in on it. Appreciate your suggestions. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
