Cherohala Skyway, June 2024
So I revisited the skyway going east to west this time, to see if I can find any inspiration. Can't say that I did, enjoyable ride but not the scenery I wanted! Trees coverage covers almost all the views. Spoilt by UK I guess. Blue Ridge far nicer and interesting, in my humble opinion.

Well initial box was just the mount, see my look of surprise. Fitted this then waited several weeks for the lights to arrive. Repurposed HexEZcan from heated clothing to all 4 circuits for the lights. Little bit of trial and error but finally got there. Hold in indicator button for 3 seconds and outer lights go out. Use the jog wheel to adjust light intensity. Great addition for both aesthetics...

What is the part name
I'll be tackling this on my father's 2012 L322 for him next week! A few days ago, his Land Rover specialist (4 hours away) replaced the driver's door lock module, but upon returning home, the passenger side began with the same intermittent fussiness. 🤦♂ Many thanks for the concise instruction on how to complete the job.👍
What about the warranty if you need? Are you going to have trouble with bmw doing service by ourself?
Wow my favourite bike new subscriber
Welcome aboard!
Waaaaaw! U really are 1 hek of a nut head sir! Very impressive work u've done there sir! I love it! I'm from Philippines sir!
Thank you David! I live in northern california. I have a 2021 GSA. My bike is having it's 42K (miles) service at BMW. Oil change, rear brake pads, flush brake lines, Over $800 US dollars. I think I should service my bike myself. Your how-to videos are excellent! I am now subscribed... I really like your video work and excellent high definition. Camera angles are perfect.
Great video!! well explained and well done. Ty
For a close estimate of *F, double C and add 32. Great riding - I will be heading out that way in a couple of weeks.
Nice video, cheers for that. Question though… does it charge the phone fast enough, or does your battery percentage drop at all whilst using your mobile for navigation? Ta.
It worked great with no issues of phone discharging. I have moved on to a quad lock fastened to a WunderLINQ but would now invest in a Carpuride or a chigee air-5
Enjoyed the video David! Keep 'em coming, Regards from Melbourne Australia 🙂
Editing is a learning curve and good sound a pain!
Thank you for posting this video 🙏🏻 My D7 Pro kit (including, cansmart, B6 rear light and Soundbomb) are arriving in the post today and I cant wait. Sadly, i am flying out to France for a week this afternoon but looking forward to getting them fitted to my R1250GSA upon my return to U.K. I was watching Steve's "A BIKE THING" video suggesting that this could all be run off of 3 circuits. Both spots (upper and lower 4 LED's) off of one circuit and the other two circuits able to power the DRL and run them in unison with the indicators. This'll be the first time i've used a cansmart so is going to be a steep learning curve. I, too bought a pair of the Hex extension leads (150cm in length), One end is a single FEMALE 3 pin connector So with all the above, if i can get it to run off of 3 circuits (not sure i can with the AMPAGE levels, 9Amp each light) then this will in theory leave me one circuit remaing for the B6 rear light. The soundbomb will have to wait until i buy a second cansmart i guess. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience of installing the kit onto your bike. Kind regards, Damian
I got a loud horn from Fiamm which wires into existing cables, no need to mess with cansmart, there is even adapter cables. Very loud and easy.
You always undo the filler screw first
brilliant-thanks!
I need some sponsorship from Powerade zero in my “cup holder”!
Is that a bloody cup holder???
Yes it bloody is! Coffee in the am, Powerade midday and Jameson’s in the evening! All mixed in a yeti cup that fits! Don’t tell me you use a sipi straw!
Thanks but that is one funny looking light, It's popular on RnineT also. I'm running the OEM H4 on mine that I'm dealing back to a yellow bulb, I'm sick of being blinded by oncoming LED lights tbh
I turn off main lights during day and they are low on dipped
Nice beautiful ride on super giant bikes lol they're huge! Be careful!
Thank you, I will
The roads out there are beautiful. I gotta visit someday haha. Great video!
Where u at? They are fantastic
@@TrailBreak-Travel I’m from Vegas but I’m spending some time in Taiwan right now haha
That is exactly what happened to us when we were in the Blue Ridge Mts. GPS took up the ridge and down it onto some back country road where the locals were flying Confederate flags. Scary. Good weather to you. How are you liking the BMW? I'm thinking about getting one of those or maybe the Tiger 900
Confederate flag fliers are cool, learn the true history. Never had reason to feel unsettled and small country roads make it worthwhile
Nice riding on the Blue Ridge and nice town at the end. What tires are you running - I start to hear road noise at around 20 mph in the video. My Bridgestone Battlax A41s are loud. Or at least the front tire is coming up through the tunnel.
Motoz Tractioneer, I ride some trails here in GA. Always wear earplugs
@@TrailBreak-Travel I may think about Dunlop Trailmax Missions when the time comes for tires. Or may stick with just a road tire like the Michelin Road 6 GT.
Thanks for this! Been wanting to do my own servicing on my R1250GS!
Any time!
Thanks a million great video. Just bought a R1250GSA and this is a great help 👍
Glad it helped
the oil plug must been 42nm not 20nm
Agreed
Thank you David 🙏 I was so worried that enduro is gone
Been there. Sadly Maxwell's house is no longer there. Just a memorial to the otters.
Thanks for sharing the maintenance info with us. I really appreciated the care with which you underwent the maintenance. However, you did not clean the old oil from the drain or the filter areas and did not open the fill cap to facilitate draining. Is there a reason you elt it not needed?
Bravissimo....eccellente....grazie!
Just one tip when changing the oil filter cassette, always fill it with brand new oil almost up to the top, it won´t spill any of it when puting it back in place, helping the oil pump do his job properly. Regards from Argentina.
Any issue in phone's lenses / cameras due to vibration?
No issues now have a quad lock vibration damper
Was that your first rear drive oil change? The US bikes are filled with a moly based oil that's solid black and yours looked really clear. Great video.
Yes first
Hello David, from The Netherlands, thank you so much for this educating video! I’ve subscribed to your channel. Since May this year I own my bike-dream, a R1250GS year 2021. I still have a 2 year BMW factory/dealership warranty so no need to do the service myself, for now. I have 2 questions from which I hope you are willing to help me with. 1) what are the Nm (torque) settings for all the bolts/screws? (all the bolts and screws on the bike would be very appreciated 😬) 2) how do I reset/remove (step by step) the message that service is overdue? Many thanks in advance. Warm regards, Peter

Loved the video, especially "nano meters"!😂
Glad you enjoyed!
Looks like fun - I may need to give it a try next year.
Well worth it, I was getting over the vid so wasn’t at my best but instructors are fantastic and you learn a lot
Nice hike through the park. I was impressed by my trip to the New River Gorge in WV this year. No hiking that day, but a great ride through and visitor’s center.
Thanks for watching!
Incredible difference between the old plate and the new. Looks very heavy. Is the rear mounting plate held on by only the hose clamps?
Yes just the hose clips but they are better quality than standard, The original skid plate held with flimsy frame and I was at the riding class in Spartanburg and it took a lot of impacts and held so have no fears with this as it is the mounts that take the impacts not the fixings
Great video mate! Regards from Melbourne Australia 🙂
Thanks for watching
Is the horn just plug in & play with the existing gsa wires David
You can either purchase the extra wiring harness to convert the plug or solder on new spades
Looks simple enough. Do you also have their GS911 tool?
I do, 2 GS'S to look after. Had an original yellow one that I sold, replaced with Bluetooth one.
Hi! Does the adapter protect your phone from vibration?
Never had any issues, there is a layer of rubber between phone and holder and phone in silicon case
Hi David. I've just came across your video as i purchased a GS last month (older model). Great video and very informative and helpful. Im thinking of doing the same on my bike and just plucking up the courage by watching a few videos. Keep up the great work and videos. New subscriber here.👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!. Take your time and use the right equipment and fluids
A great you tube video i enjoyed the shared email, i love sarcasm and it showed it to perfection. I would've sent them back a picture of it on a cushion with the words just received this from royal mail it as taken rhe chap a full day to get up the path as it keep failing of the cushion on to the concrete path 😂👍🏻😎
For a 50/50 tire, the rear looks like it has a good bit of rubber for pavement riding. I will keep this tire in mind when it's time to change out my Battlax A41s.
So far I’m still impressed. Front appears to be wearing well.
I mounted my iphone 14 ProMax on a QuadLock with a vibration mount.. The problem is its not bright enough, and so is unusable on even cloudy days. I will try a shroud or sun visor, but may buckle and buy a Nav 6 or Zumo xt.
Odd, I have an 11 and use it here in the bright summer sun of GA USA. Could be brighter but certainly usable
Good day sir, I own a GS 1250 2022. I watched 3 videos on youtube and they all have a different torque for the engine oil drain bolt. You say 20 Nm and the two others say 32 & 42 Nm. What is the correct setting…where can I have the specs from BMW? Thanks, Marc Quebec Canada 🇨🇦😉🏍
I use lower setting as thread on drained sump is oiled. People have said 42 is too much and is for clean dry threads. Shops have seen bolts stripped. I literally squeeze up the crush washer and have never had issues or stripped threads.
Great video . Well done. From 2021 they come with a 5 year warranty. Not being serviced by BMW would this not void that warranty. Thx again for a insightful video.
As your dealer, 3 years in US and UK, I had warranty claim on my old GS that only saw dealer for 1st service. When I sold it, buyer returned it to dealer who commented how well it had been looked after!
Your dealer recommended Liquid Moly because their margins are higher on it vs the BMW oil. No way BMW is telling dealers not to use the BMW oil. That’s an insane lie you’re being fed.
I was sold motul
Andrews looks like a nice little town. I’ve read that nearby Franklin and Highlands are as well. Nice forest road at the end 👍
It sure is!
Nice video, keep doing it… love from Australia
Great ride - the paved roads remind me of my trip to West Virginia this May. I didn’t get to ride any awesome forest roads like this though - I need to head out that way. I’ve got the same GSA as you, down to the Lone Rider headlight guard 👍
Sorry won't pay lone rider prices for something you can get at a fraction of the cost on alliexpress! I need better tyres for the forest rds
@@TrailBreak-Travel I still have the original Bridgestone 90/10s - going to run them as long as I can and then look at Dunlop Trailmax
