Malcolm Camps And
Приєднався 15 кві 2023
I spend an exorbitant amount of time camping and adventuring outside all times of the year. I enjoy eating well during my camping trips and often spend a good amount of time cooking. When I'm not gorging myself on food at camp, I'm probably off exploring the area. Kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, climbing; I'll do it all. The vast majority of my trips are solo adventures.
Solo Kayaking the Big Wood River in Flood Conditions! Tipped, Flipped, and Went Swimming
Hey friends, thanks for watching. Did a day trip on the Big Wood River in Idaho in early May. Thanks to the snow melt, river water was moving above 3,200 CFS. The river rose more than a foot during a 48 hour period. I put in at Hailey, ID and took out at Stanton Crossing Campground, all north of the Magic Reservoir.

Winter Camping, Solo, in a Foot of Snow in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
Переглядів 27 тис.Рік тому
Spent a few days winter camping at a MI state forest campground in Dec of 22. Arrived to the campground with almost no snow on the ground and left with over a foot of the beautiful white powder carpeting the forest. Used my time in the woods to hike around, cook up some delicious food, and relax. Come check it out.
Spring Camping and Kayaking Along the Au Sable River in Michigan

Achieved footage from a trip in April of 2022. Spent a few days camping at Buttercup Campground and day kayaking along the Au Sable River. This was a self supported trip, so I did have to shuttle myself and gear up/downriver. Ran the gambit with weather from below freezing nights in the snow to beautiful sunny days on the river. Come check it out and let me know your thoughts. Thank you for wat...
Solo Spring Backpacking in Canyonlands National Park
Переглядів 79Рік тому
One night of backpacking by myself in Canyonlands National Park in April of 2023. Scored a permit to camp at Peekabo site. This is part of a 3-month long trip out west.
I'm currently hot tenting in the U.P.,just outside Iron Mountain
Home away from home. paddle on! 💙
As a Floridian who struggled to survive the southern Michigan winter you sir are a madman 😂😂😂
I want to get into winter camping and want to buy gear already have a hot tent picked out but I don't know where to start with gear
Awesome job dude I'm glad I found your channel! Keep up the camping trips!
I wasn’t expecting to see the Mackinaw bridge
Great video. I love your frankness and perseverance. Can you be more detailed about where you put in and took out?
Greeting from Plymouth, Michigan. This looks like heaven to me. I used to spend time in Dickinson County on the Wisconsin border.
👍👍🙋♂🙋♂🙋♂
❤❤❤
“it’s the second week of deer camp and all the guys are here” 😅
👍👍👍
G'day, Take wire 😂cutters next time.
I now carry a pair with me! Lesson learned.
G'day, Snow again! I have been camping in cold conditions numerous times hoping for snow but have a better chance of sunstroke here in Queensland.
Ha. Camping in the snow is a way of life for at least 4 months out of the year in northern MI. So. Much. Snow. I miss Queensland, but I've never camped there. The heat would get to me, along w all the venomous animals.
G'day, 83 subscribers 133 likes 9,400 views ?? U tube playing up again?? well make that 84 & 134 and 9,401 I have found 3 Aussie camping U tubers recently but none of them talk - I found myself skipping ahead out of boredom. Love the snow - don't get that in sunny Queensland. Great vid
I'm a new UA-camr, but have spent plenty of time in the woods. Unsure on the YT stats. Thanks for watching! I will add more videos in time, and continue to narrate through them.
i'm a local. it's gotten way more dangerous. theres trees floating down stream now. be safe!
Oh wow! I would have thought the river was calmer now. Don't float away
@@MalcolmCampsAnd no, its crazy the bike paths are falling into the river
When I came through, water levels were above the 5ft mark in Hailey. It's another 2ft right now! That's crazy. I'm tempted to come back and paddle it now
@@MalcolmCampsAnd i wouldnt, the bridge has like a 4 foot gap between the water and the bridge
Don’t understand why their local DNR doesn’t remove the barbed wire from a public river? Ridiculous…
In defense of the DNR, this is not a section of river that people use often. Still frustrating. I'm glad I saw it in time!
Nice job Malcolm! Interesting and informative. Liked the background music also. Food looked darn good too! Looking forward to more of your adventures.
Thanks Mike! Working to get more videos out there. I've just been enjoying the outdoors too much recently.
Two dumb questions: 1. What are the rules/regulations/laws on just cutting wood? It seems everywhere I've ever camped you are not allowed to just cut your own firewood. 2. What is your setup for using the bathroom? This is NEVER shown in these types of videos. Great video.
Thanks for watching! Not dumb questions at all. 1. The rules change based on where you're camping, so check local locals. But for the national forest in MI, I'm free to collect and burn any dead and downed wood. Any fires must be contained in provided metal fire rings, portable fire rings, or a stove like mine. I couldn't just start a bonfire on the ground, the fire must be contained. 2. Ha, yeah, wasn't quite ready to tackle a video on this one. I keep a wide mouth gatorade bottle for nighttime peeing. Everything else has to be packed out, no catholes this time of year. I use a combination of a bucket to sit on and bags to hold everything. Once a bag has been 'used', it gets stored in the snow until I'm ready to leave camp.
*Dickwad lol All UA-camrs doing this same crap doesn't impress me. You pitch a tent, chop some wood, stoke the fire, cook up some beans and then spend the night "living in the wild" like its some big deal and its not. There are hundreds of you morons on UA-cam alone, doing the same. I camp out at night in winter in -40 too. As long as you have shelter and heat its nothing. Try to be different. I will not subscribe and am thumbing down this crap video. I've seen it before a thousand times on other channels.* #ZZZ
Phenomenal 👌! Your video was an absolute delight to watch, thank you for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you! That's super kind of you to say. I appreciate it. Give me time and I'll keep putting out more videos.
Great video.. I just subscribed
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I'll get more videos out there. Have the trips done, just trying to make the videos look good.
@@MalcolmCampsAnd that's awesome, I look forward to viewing, great channel
Hey man, what's life like in UP? I'm planning to move out of desert California to somewhere better.
Snow and slow. The UP can be stunningly beautiful but it's a different lifestyle up there. Everything is pretty spread out and life moves a little slower.
Ashley wanted the cooking part!
No cooking on the day trip, sorry. I'm working on another video now with lots of food though! Thanks for watching

Thanks for watching!
👍👍 💮Nice
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed

Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed
Watching this makes me home sick for sugar island.
Thanks for watching! Never been to Sugar Island. Did you know the island was proposed as a site for the world HQ for the United Nations?
Barbed wire seems fun... yikes!! Great video
Yeah, not a fan of the fencing that stabs and tears. Especially when there aren't signs or flags or warnings.
Super interesting adventure ! I like the fact that you were very descriptive and elaborated everything so nicely. Epic work my friend!
Thanks for watching and the support! Stay tuned for more videos!
Great video Malcolm and a great adventure! You really know how to survive out there ;) Love the editing and your positive aura. Nice one
Thanks for watching and the positive comments!
What did you pour over the brats before you ate them?? 5:32
A precooked packet of rice. I have a few different brands I go through ranging from Costco to Wuju (maker of great hot sauce). It's a small serving for me, so it pairs well with other food I've cooked.
_Cool and interesting video, the exciting of solo camping at Michigan's Upper Peninsula is completely and clearly exposed. Great to be able to watched it, thank you so much for always sharing wonderful inspiration._
Thanks for watching! Love some UP camping
I like the bike shuttle system...use it all the time.
Self shuttling w the bike is perfect for my schedule and needs. Clearly a little more work than using another car. But usually worth it.
I'm glad you survived the avalanche
Dangerous snow conditions out there 😂
What's the tent you're using here??
It's a 6 person Coleman sundome. Nothing fancy, and probably bigger than I need. But nice for longer trips or when I have to cook in the tent. I don't recommend it solely bc of the zipper on the door. It constantly gets stuck on the fabric.
Get it!!
