    as a former owner of home there it amazes me on all the hurricane and tornado hits in Punta Gorda is the fact the next day you still have a home and everyone helping other to pull through and rebuild, truly living in Florida is a big challenge., but when you make it life there can be quit rewarding.!

    These comments are very disappointing. You can definitely tell you’re not residents. Yes, we are used to storms. Some people have lived here their whole lives and it’s home. I lost my home and all my things but I’m not supposed to be sad about it because I should be used to it? Get over yourself. Punta Gorda as a community do not tear each other down when we go through the after effects of a storm and I’ll take that any day.

    This is why you don’t build on those islands, The OCEANS put the sand in those piles to PROTECT inland’s, and the OCEANS decide where the sand goes, And it doesn’t care you built a stupid building in its way.

    I don’t understand how you build up like that in a swamp? And don’t say it’s not a swamp, what do you call 6 feet of elevation from the ocean ? I cal it a swamp.

    • @bettyparker3317
      @bettyparker3317 4 дні тому

      I could call myself a unicorn, but…. It’s not a swamp, it’s a barrier island, which is probably far more dangerous in hurricanes than a swamp would be.

    • @AdrianMunch
      @AdrianMunch 4 дні тому

      @@bettyparker3317 barrier islands protect the swamps. None of Florida should be built on. It’s all a swamp. Average elevation of 6 feet is a swamp.

    The cruel childish comments from some on this footage of the disaster is more disturbing than our quaint town’s damage. We will rebuild and lift those in need. All of Florida is susceptible to hurricane and tropical storms. Those who choose to live or have vacation homes here know the risks. The ignorant fools making cruel statements in the comments have mental issues. Karma will sort that lot out in due time. In no time at all PG will be repaired and we will all still continue to enjoy our lives there. Remember all those with vile verbal diarrhea have either come to Florida to enjoy a vacation or could never because they couldn’t afford the airfare let alone a hotel there. @gpering1 comment shows extreme jealousy its beyond ignorant.

    I don’t know what mental state the minds of those being hateful are in. If you plan on taking shots at someone’s loss and complete devastation of their homes is horrible, just stop. We are not casting shame on any of you living in places that have weather conditions that cause devastation. In fact there is not a place left that does not have some kind of extreme weather conditions. Offer hope, advice for rebuilding and other positive things.

    Seeing such a wide area of destruction, it's difficult for me to understand why those residents would want to rebuild in that same area. Some people are very stubborn. I also have to question the city for allowing people to rebuild in that area as there is a high chance for this destruction to repeat itself with the next hurricane or two. I feel sorry for these people and I only wish they wouldn't live that close to the ocean as it's too vulnerable to climate change where storm energy keeps increasing. Anyway, I wish those people to be able to recover and move away to some safer areas if that's even possible in Florida.

    These islands are fragile since a long time. The sea level rises, the beaches are eroded after every storm. But as someone who loves these islands, it's hard to watch. What will happen now? Those who lost their decades-old bungalows and can afford it, will build new, per code, elevated above base flood elevation +1 foot. Others will leave. What makes me sad is that the whole atmosphere on these islands will change and more and more 5 story mega-mansions will replace charming 'old Florida' bungalows. It's the same in Fort Myers Beach, Pass-a-Grille and many other places where homes from the 1950s survived mostly unscathed but now are ruined.

    • @bettyparker3317

      So true. The beaches will soon be for only the mega-rich. And the charm, the personality, the connections of generations who enjoyed those old beach cottages, is gone.😢
