I live here...right over the bridge. Its my home. My heart is broken. Even if its rebuilt, climate change will destroy it all again and again. People must quit breeding more than 2 babies per woman. As the elderly die off, it will at least keep teh population from exploding more here.....but other countries. Ust express and teach the same. There are too many humans, breeding too many humans, who are stripping the earth, polluting the earth, destroying everything, with their carbon footprint.😢

Climate change and rising sea levels will make properties in low lying areas and coastal areas impossible to insure. Banks will be reluctant to give a mortgage for 15 or 30 years because the property may be under water. Selling properties to average buyers will become impossible in the future as banks and mortgage companies stop making loans for these properties. Coastal areas are a high risk for insurance and extreme weather like hurricanes. People will have to self insure and take the risk of loss. Condo associations are losing their insurance and if they find a new higher cost policy they will be passing on the higher costs to association members. Flooded cars from hurricanes fill the salvage lots. Insurance companies will raise rates and pass on the costs and risks to policy holders next year. Coastal properties will be confined to wealthy individuals that can buy properties with cash and self insure for losses from hurricanes or rising sea levels.

it's so hard to let go, do I stay and rebuild or do I leave the only place I ever loved. I lived my whole life here. this was paradise, so beautiful. and if I rebuild will my neighbor? or will I be living next to an abandoned house? I can't give up but it's so overwhelming.

They are called barrier islands for a reason. Building on them was never supposed to happen or be allowed. Insanity would be to build everything back instead of letting the island return to nature and beach beauty without homes and buildings. I was born here and I remember when this area was a nature reserve.

I am tired of seeing boats in and around Florida post Hurricane on the streets. The cost for insurance companies and people will be huge. Here's a novel idea. Hurricane warnings send out 7-10 days. Get your boat out of the water and secure it somewhere else. If you don't then insurance companies should not pay a dime. It seems to me that boat owners in Florida leave their vessels in the water and shrug their shoulders. Heh, let someone else pay... Ridiculous...

These comments are very disappointing. You can definitely tell you’re not residents. Yes, we are used to storms. Some people have lived here their whole lives and it’s home. I lost my home and all my things but I’m not supposed to be sad about it because I should be used to it? Get over yourself. Punta Gorda as a community do not tear each other down when we go through the after effects of a storm and I’ll take that any day.

Everyone with negative comments on here have never lived through something like this or any natural disaster hope you do one day then tell us how it feels to lose your stuff
