TDI ranger swap
Переглядів 15 тис.2 роки тому
finaly! it took 4 month's to pull the V6 and put in the TDI (engine code ALH) in, the engine came out of a 2000 VW golf. In the course of 2 weeks after the swap I put 800 miles on the new engine, and I probably put 1,000 miles on it before I tuned it. I will be posting the rest as I get time.

Welcome to the new channel! All modifications have been done by me and my buddies. Planning on doing more modifications in the future. If you enjoyed please like share and subscribe!
great video except you wave the camera around too much. Makes it a little hard to watch.
any videos of it driving?
Life has been so crazy lately, so I haven't posted a video in a while. I drove it for 2y, and it was awesome! I recently got a truck with a crew cab that's the only reason I got rid of it. I loved it. But yeah, I could pry find a video of it driving and post it
@pablogray3837 please do. Taking on the same swap in the next couple of months would like to see any videos you have of it that aren't posted
@@richardrideout9572 I think I have more videos of the swap itself. So I'll try to post what I can. And good luck with yours!!
@@pablogray3837 thanks Hopefully all goes well
How did you get the gage cluster to work
Wiring harness adapter let's ya plug and play
2:13
Where’s the new video??
So stock ecu and harness how did you get injectors and spark lol im lost
Yes stock ecu and harness for the most part, I took everything out of the stock harness that I didn't need. The ecu had to be sent in to have the immobilizer deleted "which is the part that looks for a programed key, and I won't have the vw key in the ranger." injectors where stock till I upgraded, nothing changed there. And not to make you look dumb but diesels don't have sparkplugs...lol
@@pablogray3837 i have no clue how diesels and glow plugs work lol im just kicking the idea around but im dumbfounded by the wiring, did you hook the ijector harness to the diesel lol your good if you dont feel like explaining it i aint to sharp
@@ikonik6286 Yeah the wire harness connects to the injection pump, But there is one wire that hooks to The number three injector, To make sure it's firing or something.
Did you ever figure out AC? Apparently a 00-05 Passat bracket fits on the passenger side down low.
That's what I heard, but I measured it up And the engine mount and cross member would be in the Way. I'm trying to figure a way to put it on the driver's side above the power steering pump.
Crazy these 2 part videos only has like 11,000 views. This was so awesome, I need a small diesel truck.
I'm thinking on Is selling her depending on how bad you want it...
The 3.slow sure is a gas sucker. Never got good fuel mileage with mine. Love this swap idea
I wish i knew what all this tuff ment. But epic video hommie.
Pair it with a Borg S200SXE and some bigger injectors/pump mod and all that and you'll put down good numbers with decent response, too.
Where’s part 3, I’m trying to run my coolant to the heater core
Sorry I'll try to life has been side tracking me.
Straight fire
Bro where are you located ? I would love to hire you to do the same swap on my 1999 Ranger What’s your Insta ?
Sorry I dont have insta, but the truck might be going up for sale.
@@pablogray3837 I’m assuming you will make a video when it comes for sale I’m subscribed to your channel if that’s the case
Yeah, I hadn't thought about it but I guess I pry could.
How did you get the gage cluster to work
I really enjoy your ingenuity and mechanical aptitude! I’m a 63 yr old HD mechanic.
You are a very impressive Young mechanic! Koodos 👍
How do you get the led headlights to stop blinking
I’ve been looking into the TDI swap for my 98 ranger. I have a thought. Other TDI swaps mention mix matching parts form ALH and BHW engines. It seems the BHW oil pan is shallower than the ALH? Are the 2000-2006 TDI engines basically the same overall engine including the BHW in the Passat from 2003-2006 (which is a 2.0L)
99-03 tdi engines are different from 04-06 different style injection systems
Yeah there not exactly the same.
Do you think you could fit one of these in a 91 ranger?
Probably, do you want some 1.9 engine ( length/height) measurements?
@@pablogray3837 please if you don’t mind?
25 Inches wide from the widest part of the turbo to the steering pump, which is about halfway up the motor. 27in from the top of the intake to the bottom of the oil pan. 22in long from the vacuum pump which is at the top back of the motor that sticks out a bit, to the front of a serpentine belt pulleys.
Hey buddy I’m thinking about doing this to a ranger as well would love to pick your brain
Go ahead!
@@pablogray3837 was the process of going back together pretty easy I’m buying the prefab engine mounts and the wiring was that a tedious process or was it pretty straight forward
It wasn't that hard, it just took time you just need a good way to lift the engine, like a chain hoist or engine hoist, because you are going to put it in and take it out a couple times. And with the wiring you need to have some good wiring schematics, I would recommend
Haynes shop manual and looking through forms and stuff you can find guys with other wiring diagrams.
It's pretty much finding and tracing wires you don't need and pulling them out.
If I ever did a diesel swap on my Ranger , I would go all the way and make it a dually too . But since it has the 4 liter and runs perfect still , I probably won't do either .
I wanted to also, but I'm looking for good MPG.
I was wanting to do this swap myself. I am eager to see how it goes for you.
I like your 3/4 lights in the mirrors.
With the egr delete, I wouldn't really worry about it to much, I got a alh and am in Minnesota in the cold and have not had problems with it, only thing you'll really notice is you'll drop about 5mpg and there is a butterfly valve inside of the egr that is supposed to help stop a run away, but if you got a new turbo you shouldn't have to worry about it, thanks for making the videos on this, I've been planning on doing this but needed more info on how people are doing it
OK thanks!
Great idea.
Great info, thanks for sharing
You bet
Great video, I’d definitely follow along if you post more build videos
More to come!
