Piano improvisation and composition, with some performances of pieces from other composers.
Bluebell March (Smith)
First improv in a long while - came up with the name simply because I was wearing a blue shirt.

Sheet Music, MIDI and MP3: admirablesmithy.com/library/piece/detail/54 This piece was actually made about 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was played in C minor but for some reason - whether on the piano itself or afterwards in editing software - it got transposed to B minor.

Improv inspired by Chopin Nocturne Op.9 No.1
Chopin: Nocturne - Op.9 No.1 (Smith)
Переглядів 5111 місяців тому
Sheet music (and other files) can be found here: admirablesmithy.com/library/piece/detail/52 One of my favourite nocturnes: the middle section is very dream-like and complements the opening/closing passages well. Moreover, I think it's good to play forte when indicated in the score to give some depth to the piece (especially around the poco stretto bars). I feel that this piece could be longer ...
Liszt: Vision - Transcendental Études No.6 (Smith)
Переглядів 334Рік тому
Over ten years ago, this was the first transcendental étude I encountered and was impressed by its powerful sound. The sheet music (and other files) for this piece can be found here: admirablesmithy.com/library/piece/detail/51 The first section was originally meant to be played by the left hand alone in its previous Douze Grande Études counterpart, whereas I have split it up between both hands,...
Promenade Prelude (Smith)

Some slow improv: most of it sounds like a nocturne but the part at 1:37 sort of sounds like a mazurka.
Field: Adagio - 18 Nocturnes No.10 (Smith)
Переглядів 155Рік тому
If you are interested, sheet music and MIDI available at admirablesmithy.com/library/piece/detail/50 Another great miniature piece from Field that, in its slow tempo, offers a lot of lyrical depth. Also, I seem to look up a lot when playing this piece lol.
Imitation of a Theme from Liszt (Smith)
Переглядів 113Рік тому
Improv loosely based on the theme from the middle section of Liszt's Polonaise No.1. I'm satisfied with the repeated notes at 1:39 to 1:43, which I think sound kinda cool.
Ganz: Qui Vive! - Grand Galop de Concert Op.12 No.1 (Smith)

I found out about this piece thanks to a video from @DemitNWC. The sheet music and MIDI can be downloaded here admirablesmithy.com/library/piece/detail/49 I haven't looked that much but, as far as I'm aware, this is the only solo performance of this piece on UA-cam: most performances are the duet version. My favourite part is the passage from 2:06 to 2:22. This galop was reasonable to learn and...

Alkan: Sérénade - Les Mois Op.74 No.5 (Smith)
Bravo!! I also saw that Demit's video years ago and tried to learn it. Glad we have this decent performance for the solo version!
nice, I’m also learning this version so I know how hard it is to play it this well, especially with the left hand jumps at some points.
cool
absolute banger
cute piece !
Very nice 👏
reminds me of Alkan somehow. Also your form and harmony are very well built!
Thanks a lot - it was actually partially inspired by Alkan's Increpatio, namely the part at 1:23
Very cool piece. I really like it!
Thank you for sharing your master concert, where to find the piano sheets?
The specific score shown in the video can be found on my website by clicking the link in this video's description. Once there, just scroll down and click the "Sheet Music" button to download a copy of the PDF. Alternatively, you can download the score from IMSLP: search for this piece's name to find its page and you can find a solo piano score under the "Arrangements and Transcriptions" tab. (I used a score from IMSLP to make my copy anyway)
Who composed this Fantasy if I can practice
It is an improvisation by me, which technically means I'm the composer (but I haven't actually written a score for this piece or anything like that).
Too beautiful,
Excellent job, very impress🎉!!
Im gonna start learning this tomorrow!
Looks easy so far!
amazing
You should play the first part of the piece with only your left hand, it's more fun that way. Also at 4:38 there's an ossia which you should really use, it's a bit harder, but so much better.
it’s hell dojng that with only left😭 but you’re right with the ossias
velocity
Congrats 👏👏👏
Very fine piece. Reminiscent of Beethoven. Thanks for sharing.
The fast jumps from arpeggio to chord are so hard
1:36 Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Who was inspired by whom?
Well considering Czerny was a student of Beethoven...
@@composerjalen Quite probably. Although not always a great composer had his inspiration himself in his works: Bizet in Carmen's "Habanera", Mozart in some of his "Magic Flute" arias (Papageno), Haendel in "Ombra mai fu"; Bach used Vivaldi's works, great pianists were inspired by Czerny's works ...
@@avecesar4244 what? My point is that Beethoven's 14th sonata was composed before Czerny wrote a single work
@@composerjalen Right. Czerny was inspired by Beethoven. My point is that great composers also took inspiration in other "minor" composers and people think the idea was theirs as in the case of Bizet's Habanera from Carmen. And some of Chopin's etudes have strange similarities to Czerny's etudes...
I always thought that a lot of Czerny was adapted from passages of Beethoven, to help you learn typical patterns
😱
Yeah, you all hate Wim Winters and his Double Beat theory, I know. Still, I was introduced into this piece by the game Piano Tiles, where it was played with half the tempo, which sounded natural and good for me. Now i hear this tempo and it just doesn't feel right. The melody just feels too fast. Especially 0:40 sounds ridiculous.
I'm here after Seong-Yong Hwan and holy shit-
Great job, I was unaware of the solo piano version of this piece and really enjoyed listening to your performance. Impressed by your octaves near the end of the piece. Bravo!
I thought this was easy until I reached measure 38
Excellent job, it’s very catchy and it flows very naturally under your fingers. Plus the piece has a very “Chopin black keys” quality throughout and I liked that! Thanks for playing your music and sharing with us👏
Thanks for sharing :)
Nice piece! Delicate touching! Thank you!
czerny exercises always sound the best
How did you add the sheet music to the video?
I copy the score into MuseScore and export it as a series of PNGs. Then, I simply overlay the images on the video using Premiere Pro.
@@AdmirableSmithy excellent, thanks for your reply.
One down, only 26 to go ;)
Bravo!
this is actually pretty for a practice peace I'm playing number 10 rn and I hate it please help me
Brilliant! One thing I would've added to make it even better is some more LH melody (such as at 2:19).
Sounds like Czerny Op.740 etude 6, 18, 45 And 755 etude 13
good shit!
Beautiful performance! Thank you thank you!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Every non-contrapuntal Czerny piece I have seen is just a very elaborate harmony exercise.
One of my favorites !
Excellent job. Well done! Actually I can imagine the young Chopin and Liszt playing this and getting influenced, don't you think?
The piece is wonderful, the pianist is the worst , it's like the dog barking. Shame
Sub. Jective.
No feeling whatsoever. What could have been a beautiful piece become something awful.
@@gerhard3950 It's a computer playing... not a real human
@@gerhard3950 it's literally a digital recording, not a human performance 💀
Brilliant
I am watching this for my 50th time and im still shocked
Could someone tell me what the musical notation of the profile picture means?
If it's my profile picture you're referring to, it is a variation of the dal segno symbol. Not sure if anybody actually uses it but I thought it looks quite cool :D
@@AdmirableSmithy thanks! Yes it's beautiful. I'd looked for info about it and I hadn't been able to find.
One "right/left" was one beat. If you understand that a quarter = 104 beat per minute instead of a quarter = one "right/left" of the metronome, you're trying to play this twice as fast as Czerny intended. Still fun though!
Wrong. And for several reasons. 1. When was the big switch? 2. Malzel’s instructions for the metronome. 3. Actual known performance durations
Applause 👏
The first stave sounds like something a sketched up a while back, weird. Lovely performance by the way. :)
Congratulations on a fine interpretation with excellent singing skills of your left hand
Beautiful!
Well, I seem to be the only one, but I don't see the point of robot performances like this with no nuances of dynamics or tempo. The thumping left hand part is particularly ugly. It's technologically interesting perhaps but it's not music.
